Rating: Summary: Disappointing and inconsistant Review: First off, it is inconsistant with the soulforge/brothers in arms. The story isn't as good as to how Kitiara joins Takhisis' forces.
Also, Merinsaard says he answers to a higher up that is a woman and that he takes care of minor business for her. This is inconsistant with the Dragon Highmasters. Kitiara was the only female one, and it is unrealistic that she could have risen in the ranks so quickly. He could have been referring to Takhisis herself, but that makes little sense as well.
After you whittle through the inconsistancies, there are some other annoying things. One of which is that they manage to pilot a gnomish flying machine to one of Krynns moons. This just makes absolutely no sense. Apparently, these moons are considered to be really close or something. I am no expert, but I would think there would be some serious consequences to having a moon that close. They don't deal with any of those sorts of loose ends.
As for the content of the story, it was entertaining, but it was far from exceptional.
Rating: Summary: A very interesting book Review: 5 years before the campanions meet at the inn in Solace. The
friends each go their separate ways. Sturm Brightblade and
Kitiara Uth Matar, decide to go north because Sturm is looking
for his father's heritage, and Kitiara for adventure. On their
way there they ran into a bunch of gnomes working on an air-ship
and wind up on the moon. On Lunitari all the characters find a
special magical talent. There is also a brass dragon that asks
them to help him get off the moon. The gnomes finally fix the air
ship, and return to krynn. Then Sturm and Kitiara go their separate
ways...
Rating: Summary: A good book but not correct with the actual saga Review: A very good story. Any true Dragonlance fan would enjoy reading about the trip of Sturm and Kit on their journey. The only problem that I had with the book, and for that matter any of the preludes that I have read, is that the book contradicts the actual storyline of the chronicles. Sturm had never seen a dragon before the first Chronicles book nor had he heard of Draconians. Yet they are both in this book. Other than that though a very good book.
Rating: Summary: Darkness and Light Review: As time on the world of Krynn passes, two people travel on adventures that they'll never forget. Kitiara Uth Matar, a young warrior woman who doesn't let anybody control her, and Sturm Brightblade, a Solamnic Knight who believes in the ancient laws of Huma, go on a quest to find Sturm's heritage. As they travel along in their fantasy world full of mysterious creatures and dark or light magic, they meet a group of gnomes who are known for their mysterious inventions and five hour long names. The gnomes agree to take Sturm and Kitiara anywhere on their newest attraction, a flying ship. The companions agree. They are surprised when it takes off the continent of Anaslon into the freezing temperatures of the highest skies. Then the contraption breaks, so it is unable to land. Sturm, Kitiara, and the gnomes are forced to continue flying up. Days pass, and their supplies are becoming limited, when something begins to fill their view. One of Krynn's three moons, Lunitari, is straight up. As they get closer to the red moon, they are blessed with unusual powers that only grow larger as they crash land. Unable to fix their ship, they are forced to scrounge all over the sandy terrain, where they face many unusual characters and unknown living species. An army of living trees guard their holy, insane king. They hear rumors about a giant beast living in an evil obelisk, and are destined to find it. After all, it could be their only hope. They reach it and find a creature that was believed to have perished years ago, along with the legendary Huma. It was a huge brass dragon, guarding a sacred treasure, with the help of unnatural crystallized ants. The dragon could be their only hope to get off of the desolate moon. Without a ship, it seems impossible. A life on Lunitari couldn't be that bad, could it?
Rating: Summary: Good and funny adventure Review: Before the war of the lance, when the companions split up, after a promise to meet in 5 years time, Sturm decides to head north to look for signs of his father. Kitiara decides to come along, and together they head north towards solomnia. But along the way they meet a rag-tag group of gnomes, all of whom man a very gnomish invention, a flying machine. Sturm and Kitiara end up joining the gnomes on the flying ship, but something goes wrong and they end up flying all the way to the red moon lunitari. One the moon they meet a dragon, some weird talking trees, and an evil marrooned human..can they do to get home? their ship is broken! This books bring together the adventure of sturm and kitiara in the years preceeding the war of the lance. They face many things during this book, i will not go about telling you what all the face, you will have to read and find out, but this book is a must needed addition to any dragonlance collection. I am not the biggest fan of kitiara, but in this book she wasnt half bad, maybe it was because she wasnt hanging over every single guy that she saw, but this book definately shows you the relationship between sturm and kitiara, and brings to life the pain that kit might have felt, after she realized that she killed sturm (dragons of winter night). They face many things on their journey, as well as something that they never expected...love. Kitiara goes her way, and sturm goes his. But this book is definately a good read. full of adventure, and humor (thanks to the gnomes) as well as a precurser to the troubles that a brewing on krynn, troubles that will eventually lead to the war of the lance. While others have pointed out that there is a few inconsitencies in this book, like the parts with the dragon, and the draconions, who sturm was supposedly not supposed to know about until "dragons of autumn twilight" this is still a good read, and will definately keep you interested from cover to cover.
Rating: Summary: A Nice Book Review: Definatly a Good Book, All of the companions meet up and make a deal over some ale... The deal is that no matter what, everyone would meet back in Solace in 5 years, and if they wanted, meet every year at the Inn of The Last Home. The story is about Sturm and Kitiara, and their wild adventure witha a pack of wacky inventing gnomes. Sturm is leaving for Solamnia, in search of the truth about his heritage, and Kitiara comes along just for a new adventure. They run into a bad storm and notice a HUGE ship, but it was on land, and a whole bunch of gnomes swarming around it. The gnomes ask Sturm and Kitiara if they would help them, and as a Knight must go by his "Code and Measure" he helps, as does Kitiara. After much talking, the gnomes ask if Sturm and Kit would like a ride to Solomnia, and they accept. This was a mistake! The crazy gnome ship ends up breaking and sending them to Lunitari! (The Red Moon) After landing on Lunitari the adventurers and the gnomes set off in search of ore to fix the ship. In the time they were gone their ship and 3 gnomes were carried away to a strange obelisk with a Dragon dwelling inside it. Sturm, Kit, and the gnomes set off to find their ship, they run into... a city, BUT the city is a city of tree people. The tree people are reigned by a crazy king that was marooned on Lunitari. After dealing with the tree city, they move on, towards the strange obelisk. They venture to the obelisk and see their flying ship! The go into the obelisk and meet a very nice dragon... The dragon helps then rebuild their ship to send them home, and in return, they must help free the dragon from the obelisk!
Rating: Summary: Not a bad book but not a very good book Review: I picked this one up at a second hand book store for 2 reasons. 1) It was a Dragonlance book 2) It was cheap. I read it and at one point I thought, " Hey this is pretty good so far" Then the part of draconians came up and that ruined it for me. I couldn't help but think the author was winging this one. I sat there thinking," Didn't the companions first run into the draconians in the chronicles books?" as in the first books of the Dragonlance series??? Hey if you love Dragonlance read it, but only if you can't find a better book in the series first.
Rating: Summary: Skip it! Review: I read this book when it first came out, when I was 15, and it's still prominent in my mind. Not, however, because it was good. It doesn't fit in at all with the Dragonlance universe, and is in fact completely ludicrous. The characterizations are off, the plot is laughable, and the writing style is poor. There are so many wonderful books out there; it would be a shame to spend your time reading this one.
Rating: Summary: Not Really Horrible, but No Good Either Review: I tried to like this book, really I did. I went into it expecting a light read, not Shakespeare mind you. But light reads are supposed to be LIGHT! This book was either too conspicuously trying to take itself seriously or too conciously trying to be funny. The main gist is that Sturm and Kitiara accidentally end up on another planet when the flying machine they are riding in with a band of gnomes breaks. Once on the planet it's a series of misadventures trying to get supplies to leave which eventually leads them to a brass dragon in an obelisk. When they finally get back to Krynn, Sturm inexplicably joins a group of herders to find his father, barely being saved by Kitiara before being done in by a magician warrior. Did I mention the deadend plot about a pirate ship? I won't even try to go into that. The characters were strikingly bland. Sturm is such an over-pious, stuffy character it's hard to sympathize with him and Kitiara is just obnoxious, bemoaning how the world doesn't work out perfectly for her. The gnomes are interchangable and so annoying one wants to put them all in a box and sink them to the bottom of the ocean. The one chapter featuring Raistlin and Caramon was better than most of the other characterization put together. Raistlin is such a magnetic character it's hard to write him poorly. Initially, if the authors had stuck to the later plot of the book, with Sturm looking for his father, this thing might have been a good read. But in the end, too much is attempted to be done and the book just runs out of gas. Oh, and where was the promised romance? I found none. In the end, too many plot twists make an admirable rope to hang this story on.
Rating: Summary: Good Book Review: I was a somewhat disapointed that you did not find out how Sturm and Kit fall in love. The trip they take is an amazing jurney that takes them out of this world. The gnomes were very amusing to read about. There isn't much more to say except that I would have to say reea this book.
