Rating: Summary: Ok, I'm gonna be serious for once... Review: This is my favorite book ever. When Huma gave his life to defeat Tahakasis...I was actually sad. I was touched. Richard Knaak is an incredible writer. I enjoyed the way he continued the story of Kaz the Minotaur(The coolest minotaur of all time). It's strange how he wrote some of the best books ever in a series that was not his own(i.e. Margret Wies and Tracy Hickman). This is the fantasy book that all other fantasy books strive to be. This is so incredibly fantastic that I believe my words are not required for a description of it's greatness. Tolken could really learn a thing or two from Mr. Knaak.
Rating: Summary: highly recommended for anybody! Review: Eager to get into the DL series I picked up this one because it was a best seller and I couldnt wait to order in the core's, and I did not regret it, Knaak does an amazing job in telling the story of the legendary Huma all the while captivating the reader with a fast paced plot and wondreful battle segments full of action, dragons etc that never dull and always propel the storys momentum further.
This is one of my favourite books, I was saddened when it was over as it is such an amazing book, if you only read one DL book make it this one!
Rating: Summary: A truly epic story Review: This is it, this is the book that got me interested in Fantasy literature in the first place. Before this book, I couldn't even tell you what the heck Dragonlance was, I had never heard of or read J.R.R. Tolkien, and this book changed all that.
Why is The Legend of Huma so memorable and remarkable?
The main characters are very well defined. You have Huma, who is the true definition of a Solamnic knight, with his virtuous, courageous and chivalrous nature. He is seen as something of an outsider because of his questionably noble birth. You have Kaz, whom Huma rescues early on. Kaz is, well not human. In fact he is from an enemy race. Yet Huma shows him so much regard that a true friendship of trust and respect grows between the two. There are many other characters central to the story, from Huma's childhood friend and powerful wizard, Magius, to his true love, Gwyneth, and more.
Huma and his fellow knights are engaged in a terrible and costly war against the forces of the Queen of Darkness (yes, I know it sounds melodramatic but just bear it out), led by the evil and powerful wizard, Galen Dracos. What makes this part of the story so well built is that Knaak gives the impression of a massive war, one covering miles and engaging thousands of soldiers and dozens of towns. So obviously, Huma is not riding up and simply wiping out the forces of darkness singlehandedly.
In the process of trying to help his knighthood win the war, Huma is thrust into a number of adventures and eventually becomes crucial to the Solamnic war effort. He encounters dragons, magic creatures, death worshippers and so much more.
Knaak really builds personalities for all the key characters, and his storytelling is at once easy to follow, and very compelling. He does a wonderful job crafting a story of spells and swords, dragons and knights. It is quite difficult to put the book down in the middle of a chapter. The story of Huma's legend is also a true epic, one that any fan of literature in general will enjoy. Rest assured that while reading this, you will feel bittersweet upon turning the last page.
Rating: Summary: Refreshingly good Review: I dislike most of the lame novels that have hatched out of Krynn, but Knaak delivers with the story of the legendary Huma, Knight of Solamnia. The story stays true to the magnificent example set by Weis and Hickman, and tells the tragic tale of the star-crossed lovers, Huma and Gwyneth the Silver Dragon. Highly recommend!
