Summary: Not bad just average
Review: I have been reading some people's review here and some here seem to enjoy it a lot. But unfortunately I thought of all the Section 31 books this was the weakest. They have 3 stories going on throughout the novel. I think it would have been better if they had combined the Emperor story with the mother trying to help her daughter out story. The plot to kill 7 of 9 is alright but nothing spectacular. What I found kinda of funny and interesting were the logs left behind by the would be killer. The way she bashes Janeway reminds me a lot of the BBS in TrekNation. They have lots of fans that hate Voyager. It seems like they wrote that part of the novel. I would have enjoyed more of an active role for section 31 in this novel. Also Chakotay and Paris are left with almost nothing to say in this novel which is a shame. I enjoy the Paris character a lot but here he is told to shut up a lot. Also the Doctor doesn't have much to say either. He is another good character. Anyway those are the reasons why the novel fails for me.

Summary: Section 31: Shadow
Review: I recieved this book as a birthday gift in December and I have read it 4 times since. I am a die hard Star Trek fan, and if you are too, you'll love this book. The plot develops wonderfully! It's just like watching an episode!

Summary: Pretty good Star Trek book.
Review: I started reading this book and thought it would be just another Voyager book thats part of some new mini series. As I read the story gets better and the pace picked up. But basically the story is like this; Voyager finds two stars about to collide and go supernova. Then on sensors they pick up a huge pre-warp ship trying to get out of the system before the stars blow. Captain Janeway decides like all other captains to toss out the prime directive and save the ship because they know it will be destroyed when the stars go because it is to close. Voyager comes to save the day but they have a little trouble when some weird accidents start happening to 7 of 9. I will let you read the rest and find out what happens.

Summary: A quick enjoyable read.
Review: I'd actually rate this book 3.5 but I round up. I was very interested in the book from the beginning but was initially disappointed when the culprit was revealed. In retrospect, the culprit was rather well done: a Section 31 operative acting on her own initiative (thank you, Smith and Rusch, for not using a "previously unrevealed method" of Alpha to Delta Quadrant communication possessed only by Section 31) who was killed before fully implementing her plan. Seven's arrogance and abrasiveness would be an expected part of her transition from Borg to human. I particularly like Tuvok's detective work and continual self-evaluation. I think the authors were very successful in presenting Tuvok's Vulcan personality.

Summary: A great book!
Review: I've always liked the TV show, and this was the first Voyager book I read. I loved it! It has a great idea, background, and a great idea for the villin! It also shows the clash between Torres and Seven, which I find very intertesting. Any Voyager fan should buy this book!

Summary: Good Summer Fare.
Review: I've been reading some of the other reviews, and I gotta tell ya, I'm wondering just what it *is* people expect from Star Trek! I'm not saying my bar is set low - though I AM easily entertained, which is something else entirely - I'm just saying some folks have a tendency to nitpick *quite* unnecessarily. This story is by no means the be-all and end-all of Trek tales, but it IS a decent read - nevermind that bitchin' picture of Seven-of-Nine on the cover! (Okay, so I buy for the covers as well as the story - this is wrong?) I will admit I have the distinct impression the Section 31 thing is just a trumped-up Paramount ploy to sell books and merchandise, but I'm not going to fault them for that, since it's probably true. The "aliens in trouble" plot was pretty basic (but the aliens themselves were *purple,* an added bonus that B'Elanna got a unique kick out of) and so was the whole Section 31 plot to kill Seven, but still, I didn't find it an unacceptable story. And the biggest bonus of all, Dean and Kristine name those rotten alien experimenters from "Scientic Method." After all they did to the crew, it's about TIME they got a name. Hey, I'm calling that name canon. Where's the harm in that?

Summary: WHO IS AFTER 7 OF 9?
Review: IN MY OPINION, THIS IS A PRETTY GOOD BOOK. SOMEONE ABOARD VOYAGER IS TRYING TO KILL THE BORG BABE 7 OF 9 - THE QUESTION IS, WHO COULD IT BE? I BELIEVE THAT THE AUTHOR(S) DEALT EVERYBODY A CLEVER TWIST WHEN IT WAS FINALLY REVEALED WHO THE CULPRIT REALLY WAS. THE ONLY SUGGESTION THAT I MAKE BEFORE YOU READ THIS BOOK IS TO WATCH THE VOYAGER TELEVISION EPISODES 'SCORPION PARTS 1 & 2', AND (ESPECIALLY THIS ONE!) 'SCIENTIFIC METHOD'. WITHOUT KNOWING THE EVENTS THAT TOOK PLACE IN THESE PARTICULAR EPISODES, THIS BOOK WILL NOT MAKE MUCH SENSE TO YOU. ALSO, THIS BOOK BRINGS TO LIGHT WHY CAPTAIN JANEWAY ACTED WITH SUCH FEROCITY WHEN TRYING TO CAPTURE CAPTAIN RANSOM AND THE CREW OF THE U.S.S. EQUINOX IN THE VOYAGER TELEVISION EPISODES 'EQUINOX PARTS 1 & 2'.

Summary: Starship Voyager vs. Seven and Company
Review: Its hard to rate this book. When I personally first began reading it, I at once tried to rate it on this five star system. Reading other's beliefs on the book led me to rate it a three at once. I warn you; like many books written by these authors, its a very slow start. Its like watching an ice cube melt on a hot summer's day; it takes forever to start but once its going, it flows like a river. Now, on to a more critical look into this installment which has been bashed by the rather normal Anti-Voyager fans.

Its your basic Voyager premise; something out there catches Chakotay's eye, he tells Janeway, she gets interested and the ship goes off to explore and finds themself trying to save a race. The details are rather boring but if your a true Voyager fan, you'll live. The first half of the book is rather dull I believe, something these authors seem to love to do; see how long their audience will last. Don't let it get to you, heres all the good points of this book and why I rated it a four. Voyager itself begins to go against the crew and they have to abandon ship. The ship tries to eliminate Seven of Nine; so for all of you pro-Kes, anti-Seven of Nine fans, this is your book. How this ' Operative' tries to kill Seven just made me laugh and I love the character. Good Torres/Seven as well as Janeway/Seven interactions, a lot of Tuvok too.

The alien subplot is rather boring. At first it really makes no sense at all. By around page 100, it starts to make a great deal of sense. The major highpoint of the book is first of all reading how many ways there are to kill a Borg babe. Very nice. Second was the entire Ship vs. Crew bit. Double Nice. The last and final point was the Operative's log which bashed Janeway so much its funny, plus for all you Anti-Voyager fans, it voices ALL of your opinions. Therefore, the book is not BAD at all. It doesn't deserve the low ratings and it does add on to the entire theme of Section 31, even for a ship lost somewhere out there.

Summary: Don't bother-very weak story
Review: Luckily each of the books in the Section 31 series from Pocket Books stands on its own. "Shadow" is the one I wished I had passed on. I thought the story was very weak. The other Section 31 novels drew me right in and were very compelling, "Shadow" however did not.

Someone is trying to kill Seven.... That made me the plot very uninteresting. Add in the subplot of Voyager trying to assist an alien vessel and you get two week storylines that never really work.

The characterizations weren't particularly well done either. I can't think of a single reason to recommend this book to any reader, star trek fan or not.

Summary: Shadowy Killer
Review: Shadow is the fourth installment in the 'Section 31' Star Trek book series. This book involves the crew of the starship Voyager. You may wonder how Section 31, the covert 'self-appointed protectors of the Federation', can possibly reach its claws to a starship on the other side of the galaxy? That, of course, is part of the mystery.
What begins as a leisurely stop to observe a unique astronomical phenomenon - the colliding of two stars - soon turns deadly. A series of freak accidents finds captain Janeway concluding that someone on her ship is trying to kill Seven of Nine.
This leads to some fine character studies of Voyager personnel. The former Borg drone, Seven, struggles for survival knowing at every turn she could fall victim to another assassination attempt. Tuvok, the Vulcan security officer, races with time to unmask the killer - a killer with an intellect to match his own.
And to all this add the plight of a pre-warp culture trying to escape a doomed solar system in a giant space ship carrying the last survivors of a planet that no longer exists.
