Summary: So Begins the Saga...
Review: First of all, I love to read. Ever since I learned how, I have always been with a book. At any time of the day, any time of the year, people could ask me, "What are you reading now?" And I could answer them. I have read hundreds upon hundreds of books in my lifetime. When people would ask me what my favorite book was, I would laugh and say I hadn't the faintest idea, then name a few top ten that I enjoyed. But after reading the Dark Elf trilogy, I can now answer that question.

Yes, the Dark Elf books are the best books that I have ever read in my life. I literally could not put Homeland down when I started reading it. The vivid way the city is described, and the complex forms of life within it (the Dark Elves, or drow) are some of the best I've read in a novel. The Dark Elves themselves are extremlely intriguing - they are constantly betraying one another, and "family" has no meaning to them...the first few chapters should show you that well enough.

The characters are brought to life in such a masterful way that I actually found myself thinking of alternate paths the characters in the book could have gone down. From young, trusting Drizzt Do'Urden, being betrayed by his "friend" in the maze, to strong Zak'Nafein, his father, who has endured these long years and must face the fear that his son will become just another evil drow. There are many, many other characters who I believe are some of the best in modern fiction.

The very notion of young Drizzt Do'Urden, a good, true-of-heart drow who must try to survive and stick to his principles in this evil world would by itself make for a great novel. But there is more to it then that, of course.

Last but not least, this book is certainly inspiring and uplifting. It shows that, no matter how great the odds, if you stick to what you believe in, and never give up, you will succeed. I believe that everyone who has any interest in literature should get this book, even if you don't like fantasy. It has truly helped me through some tough times in my life - I am so glad I read it. It is a book you will remember for the rest of you life. Not necesarily Homeland alone, but also Exile, and Sojourn. I personally went on to read the other Drizzt books - I'm sure you will, too.

Summary: Surprising....
Review: I read R.A. Salvatore's Vector Prime, and vowed never to read another of his books. Hmmm, obviously it didn't quite work out that way. The book was much loved by the person who sat next to me in class at camp. He dedicated pretty much his whole website thet he made there, to fantasy. Plus the artcle he wrote for our camp magazine was entitled Drizzt Do'Urden. Weeeellll, needless to say, I got curious. So when I was in the bookstore, I bought it. And I didn't put it down. When I finished, I was surprised at ::edited to remove spoiler:: [ ;) ], but mostly I was surprised that I had actually liked it. And not just liked, loved! I got Exile earlier last week, and today I got Sojourn. Tomorrow is Friday night, no school, where's my book....

Drizzt is an amazing swordsman, that alone demanded that he earn my respect. I was instantly drawn to Zaknafein also. The characters are not so totally un-real that you can not know them, so you know the characters very well by the end. I have heard it said that Mr. Salvatore's name belongs with those of Tolkien and Asimov, I wholeheartedly agree. These books are very well written, and you are surprised. That is the most important thing in a book. Surprise. These books are really great, what more is there to say?

Oh, yes one more thing. The psychology of Exile is amazing, read it! :)

Summary: A Novel, that you will treasure your whole life
Review: I recently purchased the Dark Elf Trilogy, and i'm going to start with this one: Homeland!

When i purchased the book, i didn't expect much, i knew that Salvatore, was very good. but i didn't expect to lie in bed for hours of hours, reading.

But thats what i did. and i liked what i read. this book touched me more than any book, movie or anything i can remember. and i dislike that there are only 5 Stars available, for rating, for i would have given this one at least 10.

i am somewhat surprised, that i hadn't heard of this book, until recently for, usually i hear of good books before they are even published, but i hear that this book is almost as old as i am, or even older, so that is here by explained

I guarentee that you will love (not like) this book, weather you are a Fantasy book love, D&D fan, AD&D fan or just a fan of good books, it shows you a story, that has battles so very detailed, that they are more detailed, than in any movie possible, you see a world that is distant to us. and you see an epic story, of a "Dark Elf" named Drizzt, that you will start to love, within the first 6 chapters. you will also start to hate the world he lives in, yet fancy it, and become curious, and anxious ..... i also guarentee that you will almost fear to read the next chapter, for you do not want to finish this book ever, (NOT) because it's boring, but because it's so good, and touching that you want to read it forever.

If your looking for a book this is a must read!

Summary: All I can say is.. WOW!
Review: I must tell you, I'm a real freak of fantasy novels, and I was always sure that the 6 first books of the Dragonlane series are the best ever. Until I read Homeland, This books takes you into the heroes mind in a matter that no book ever did. Salvatore writing alowes you to go through everything Drizzt goes through. Since i read this book I have joined the hugh club of Drizzt fans I just have to read every book concerning him. for conclusion: READ IT FAST! Only one catch: when you start reading Drizzt novels you'll find it hard liking anything else..

Summary: SALVATORE HAVE FOUND THE SPIDER QUEEN'S FAVOR,...AND MINE
Review: HOMELAND is one of those rare books which you started reading....but cannot put down. R.A. Salvatore have elaborated and expanded upon what we (AD&D gamers) know about the dark elves, which, at the time, consist of the D series modules, into a story so detailed, so rich, so engaging that this one of the best novels I have ever read. Salvatore also developed the characters into such depths that even the evil characters (which is most of them), you can understand their motivations....one NEEDED to be evil and hateful in order to survive in a twisted society. Sometimes, you might actually found youself rooting for the Do'Urden family in their relentless quest for power and prestige.

You don't have to be familiar with the Dungeons and Dragons game in order to be entertain by this novel. It is self contained and contain enough information here so the totally clueless can get into it.

The only fault I found in this book is how Drizzt himself seems to be so clueless about the society around him...is he really so sheltered that he doesn't know about the twisted truths about his people?

Homeland is one of the best fantasy books I have ever read. You will not regret it.

Summary: Yes, I liked it.
Review: Having not read any other Salvatore books, I was impressed by this apparantly 'background' piece of a character from another series. In it's own right this is a well-written, engaging work. The city of the Drow underground is believably and interestingly thought out and described, and the characters well-drawn. Drzzt is well-rounded and genuinely catches your attention and empathy. An easy book to get caught up in and just enjoy. Hard to fault for a good fantasy ride - it delivers. Worth buying. I'll see if he can keep it up for the next book.

Summary: Homeland: A Reader's Thoughts
Review: Homeland is an excellent fastasy/adventure book written by R.A. Salvatore. In my opinion, Homeland is one of Salvatore's greatest works. If you would like to learn about Drizzt Do'Urden and his begining, as well as other drow and their ways, then I recommend this book to all. Homeland is book one of a trilogy, the other two books in this trilogy are Exile, and Sojourn. I would also recommend reading this two books as well, but try to do so in the order they come. In Homeland you will learn about the Underdark and Drizzt's fight to survive when all his entire race has turned on him....
