Rating: Summary: So-so Review: I found this book to be quite a bit better than the first one, since it was an original plotline, rather than just one adapted from the SC single player campaign. However, none of the characters are really familiar, but it does not concentrate on just one or two characters specifically, which is a nice change from the other book.Overall it's a pretty good book, and I would recommend it. Die-hard Protoss and Zerg fans, however, may be disappointed, as there is too much focus on the Terrans. I would love a book which just concentrates on the Protoss or Zerg side of things, and this book is not what I was looking for.
Rating: Summary: Sweet Book Review: I have never read this book, but I am a big time player of SC and I love it. I am planing on buying this book, it is really cool sounding. I think I will enjoy this book as much as Lord of the Rings: The Hobbit because it is fantasy. Plus, Protoss is my favorite race and I believe it is about Dark Templars. So all around, I am happy. I think they should make a movie on every book, but all in one movie, like the whole game, but just in campaigns, and they would basically turn it into a movie instead of a game, oh well confusing I know, but this book rocks!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Overall: Very Good Review: I just finished reading "Legacy of the Xel'Naga", and overall I thought it was very good. There were a few things that I didn't like, but the good tended to outweigh the bad. This book DOES NOT follow the single player story at all. It's a completely seperate story that happens shortly after Tassadar killed the Overmind and just before the events in Broodwar. The charactorization of the terrans were excellent, and it really helped suck you into the story. There were plenty of fight scenes and pitched battles, both in space and planetside, which was something "Liberty's Crusade" sorely lacked. The fight scenes are interesting and true to the game. If you are counting on this book spending a lot of time on the Protoss however, you may be disappointed. Also the Protoss characters are all new, and for me they lacked that special "something"... they didn't have that special aura about them that they have in the game, but at least they got some story time this time around. :) . There were some glaring, obvious errors though...for an example the author discribes the occupants of dragoons uniformly as merely protoss brains floating in chambers. As anyone who has played the protoss for any length of time knows, the fallen templar warriors encased in dragoons almost always has their full head/face. There were a few other errors, but overall the story stayed true to what we know of the Starcraft Universe. If you love anything Starcraft, jump on this book, it's a keeper. If you are a protoss fanatic like me and wanted a treatse on protoss life/traditions/e.t.c you are going to be sorely disappointed. But the regular, normal fans of Starcraft will likely enjoy this novel. :) Sashimi
Rating: Summary: Book is good Review: I like this book because it says more about the terran zerg and protoss and it was cool and im no god at reviews ha ha ha ha ha ha
Rating: Summary: Dont be fooled by the Starcraft title. Review: I might say i really am disappointed with this one. Being a Starcraft and a Star Wars fan i jumped to this book and now, after reading it, i feel completely stupid for buying that one only for its Starcraft title. Gabriel Mesta is a pseudonym for Kevin J Anderson (which is a good Star Wars writer) and his wife. I thought that KJA could deliver a good bok. But when you read it you could think that, the couple had some financial problems and they just took this book project involuntarily. I think they were looking at it as a cash box. There are fifty or so chapters in the book, which makes it feel like they wrote them before breakfast and continued their life. Here is a probable dialogue between the couple: - hey Kev did you write the 46th chapter, + nah. Could you write it? - no, i dont wanna... + but we have to. So finally the scenery is bad, characters are shallow, dialogues are lame. Dont follow my steps and do not get fooled by the title Starcraft, because it really isnt a Starcraft book. It just has some familiar names and some familiar equipment. One word review: Boring.
Rating: Summary: Odd but not bad Review: I thought that it was OK, but the writing was a little on the worse side. The story line was great and could have gone very far with a more, accurate author.
Rating: Summary: disappointing Review: I was expecting much more from this book than the last based on the other reviews it received, but I found myself frustrated by the childish writing style and utterly uninteresting characters. Not everything needs to be described "..like..". I might have been reading a Hemingway novel, the way every sound and smell was being related to something else. Space opera really doesn't need such details, I believe. I felt no sympathy towards the community of victims, perhaps because their story was so broken up. Star Wars can get away with alternating stories between chapters because the characters are actually ones you care about, but I think it utterly failed here. In short, I was very disappointed with this book. I had expected much more from Kevin Anderson, given his ability to adapt to existing storylines. I suppose if this book was targeted towards teenagers (who form the majority of Starcraft players), it might explain a lot, but where were the characters we knew and actually cared about?
Rating: Summary: MEH...... Review: i'm a little dissapointed, i chose the book to do a book report, and i wasn't very impressed. I havn't read libertys crusade or speed of darkness, but i hear there good hopefully better tha this one .
Rating: Summary: WOW..... Review: I'm disappointed, and satisfied! I loved the storyline, it really captured it for in-depth Starcraft fans. But... GABRIEL MESTA did NOT deserve to write out this book. The writing style was poor, and Mesta did awful at describing things such as the Xel'Naga Temple. It was a stupid writing style. Mesta would describe things following the game. Definitely NOT what I expected.
Rating: Summary: Kevin J. Anderson sucks Review: I'm sorry, but everything I've read of his has been mediocre at best. Still, so many other people seem to think that he is a good author, that I keep giving him chance after chance. Unfortunately, this example of his work is much worse than usual. The plot idea itself was very good and had a lot of potential, and I liked the actual story. BUT, the writing - the actual telling of the tale - completely ruined it. It was horrible. The characters were mostly undeveloped. The whole climactic battle at the end was just plain indescribably bad. If I had been ambivalent about how bad I thought the book was before I got to that last battle, that part clinched it instantly. This book was so awful that I wish I hadn't bought it (heck, I wish it could cease to exist so that someone else could rewrite it and do it right), even though when I start purchasing a book series I like to have the complete set. I hope this disaster doesn't end the line of Starcraft books, because I like the idea of having a series based on my favorite game. ;) I will buy whatever gets put out next unless Kevin J. Anderson is involved. Personally I think he should be banned from the Starcraft universe permanently (And the world of writing too, for that matter).
