Rating: Summary: Something is lacking. Review: When I saw a new Hickman/Weis Dragon Lance novel had come out, I couldn't wait to read it. Despite my initial beliefs, i fell in love with their work from the start. Tanis, Tas, and the other heros seemed to be people I had known all my life. They seemed so real, so true to life that I was sad when I finished reading Chronicles and Legends because they were now leaving. I know other people felt the same. The heros were not just fictional characters in a book, but friends we had come to love and admire. Now we are back in Krynn, but everything is different. Even Tas has changed, and while I know that this is a key point in the book, I can't find any of the old Tas in this new one. The other characters from previous books also have changed in the same way. New characters are not developed as in the earlier books. Instead of being able to gather enough information to delve into their soles, one is only shown what the characters let the world see. While many mysteries are included, they are relatively easy to figure out or leave only a few possibilities to their cause. Such is the case with the green dragon Cyan. After reading of his elvish self the first time, I realived who he was, what the shield was, and what it was doing. But I will admit I loved being back in Krynn, even if the story wasn't up to the usual standards of Hickman and Weis.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as Brothers in Arms Review: Also, much heavier than "Brothers in Arms". They are obviously trying to set up something completely different, darker, new set of characters, etc. Still, it's Weis and Hickman as we all expeceted, and should fullfill anyone's craving for more DL.
Rating: Summary: Great Book. Review: I am probably like most AD&D'ers. I loved Dragonlance when it was a normal AD&D game and ran screaming when they went to the 5th Age setup for Dragonlance. Luckily the books have atleast held its true greatness. This book was great, I ordered it from BN.com got it two days later and finished it in a day. It was great. The only downside is that I don't know when the next one comes out. I would definetly recommend this book. It has answered so many questions (if you have read the book you will understand. If you haven't you will when you read it): Why is it that when you wash two socks you only end up with one? Is there life after death? Where did the other sock go? :)
Rating: Summary: Good book, horrid implications . . . Review: Well, _Dragons of a Fallen Sun_, Vol. 1 of the long-awaited (or long-dreaded, in some cases) _War of Souls_, is finally here. My take? The book itself is an enjoyable read, although a certain kender was on the annoying side, and I maintain that Weis & Hickman haven't gotten Palin right since _The Second Generation_. The elven politics that make up most of the book are quite interesting, and while the Mina of this novel may not be the Mina of _Citadel of Light_ in many ways, her strange crusade on behalf of her so-called 'One God' provides an eerie and darkly compelling story. (My own guesses as to this being's identity? In ascending order of probability, the High God, Mina's own imagination, Chaos, Raistlin, Chemosh, and Takhisis.) And while the problems with magic annoyed me at first, the revelation of where those problems are coming from is a twist with a lot of potential. However, some of the implications of this book leave me profoundly disturbed. I'm one of the few DRAGONLANCE fans who actually _likes_ the Fifth Age, and this book could very well be setting things up to completely undo the past four years of material. If that's the case, not only will I be horribly disappointed, but I think DRAGONLANCE will lose a lot of credibility. After all, why bother writing or reading for Krynn if writers who dislike it can just undo it? (There's also the fact that the timeline that the book hints at as the 'real' timeline sounds like a nice place to live, but a truly dull place for telling stories of Epic Fantasy.) The bottom line is that the book's a good read, and I'm waiting for the other two books for more story ideas and to see how things turn out, but I expect my vision of Krynn will diverge from the 'official' material as of the start of _Dragons of a Fallen Sun_. So be it.
Rating: Summary: A great start to what looks to be a great series! Review: I just finished reading DoSF and it is once again a success for Weis and Hickman. I definetly recommend reading the chronicles and legends trilogy before reading it. I give it a four out of five because it is clearly not their best book, it is slow in parts but what book is not? Prepare for a book that almost completely consists of setup for the next two books. Don't expect another Dragons of Summer Flame. It is a different time and a different feel than any of their other DL books. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to more War of Souls.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: I thought that this was the best book I have ever read and I throughly enjoyed it. I can't wait for the sequel!
Rating: Summary: Obssessed Review: From the moment I opened the book, I have been obssessed with it. Here I find out that a certain someone did not die..which pleased me greatly. This is just what I needed to pull me away from Everquest and back into reading. Thank you Weiss and Hickman..this book is great. If the 5th Age scared you away..then welcome back..I am hoping that this series will erase the 5th Age..sorry Jean Rabe!
Rating: Summary: a Big let down! Review: I have been a Dragonlance fan for a very long time (roughly 10 years)I have waited a long time for this book.I felt that it just did not deliver.Weis and Hickman are too busy trying to undo what every other author has written about the Dragonlance world to write a decent story. There writing has changed greatly since there Chronicles and Legends trilogys and not for the better. If you are a fan of Dragonlance this book is worth a glance just dont expect anything special.
Rating: Summary: A rebirth for great series Review: I used to read all the dragonlance books but I gave up when they started this 5th age nonsense, pausing to take in a few exceptions. However when I saw Weis and Hickman were doing a new Chronicles series I was excited, the book did not disappoint. Richly detailed and very well written. The plot jumps around alot but as the story progress's the relationship between them becomes apparent. Not to say there are no unanswered questions at the end. This book really drew me in and now I am waiting somewhat impatiently for Volume 2. With alot of new books being written for dragonlance by the original authors (such as Weis and Hickman, Niles, and Knaak), now is a good time to get back into it. I only hope the rest of the War of Soul's series is this good.
Rating: Summary: haha Review: It was me who said that guy at the bottom was helpful. Im only on page like 2oo bye.
