Rating: Summary: Great series Review: Everything about these books is great the plot and storyline of new and old characters is a wonderful blend. I personally liked the New Frontier novel, because I am a big fan of the New Frontier and all of Peter David's excellent writings. Even though some might not agree I gave them all 5 stars because they are all generally great books.
Rating: Summary: Balderdash straight from the bosses' mouths Review: Existing outside of conventional space-time, the Captain's Table is a bar open only to anyone who has ever held the rank or title of captain, regardless of race, creed, color, age, era, species, service branch, or vessel; it gets hinted at in "Double Helix #5: Double or Nothing." Among its patrons are Jean Lafitte, John Paul Jones, and Captain Nemo (calling himself "Nowan"). TITANIC Captain Edward Smith has taken up residence here (permanently cursing the iceberg), and Alexander the Great tried to take over the place and got exiled. What makes this series interesting is not only how they let you inside the heads of each captain, but that the bar changes appearance for every visitor: Calhoun sees it as a Xenexian tavern, while Picard sees it as a French inn. In terms of characterization, the best story would have to be Calhoun's, because he completely drops his borderline-savage/space-cowboy facade and shows some real sentiment. The multi-franchise miniseries also ties in with the "Invasion!" tetralogy by having Sisko meet Klingon Captain Sotugh from "The Soldiers of Fear" and Janeway run into an alien similar to the vaguely Satanic Zennor from "First Strike." Hardcore Trek fans should enjoy the Christopher Pike entry, which gives a hint as to what his XO's name was.
Rating: Summary: New Frontier a huge letdown Review: I greatly enjoyed this book. As I neared the end of it, I found myself wishing there was another book with another series of stories. I can't pick out which story I enjoyed the most, as they were each so differend. I had never heard of The New Frontier, or Captain Mackenzie Calhoun, but found I enjoyed that story as much as the rest. The thread that connects the stories altogether in the bar The Captain's Table is quite enjoyable. I can't help but think that this idea would make a great movie. It would also be interesting to read stories from some of the other Captain's in the bar. As a long time Star Trek reader, I was thrilled to get this book as a gift. I could hear the voices of the Captain's as I read the book. Many books I read I pass along as gifts to others. This one I will loan out, but not give away.

Rating: Summary: New Frontier a huge letdown Review: I mostly enjoyed these books, with Janeway's book being my favorite, but the Mackenzie Calhoun book was a huge letdown. I've come to expect more from Star Trek. The story was all right, but why spoil it with improper relations between two beings? Like I said, I've come to expect a lot more from Star Trek, although not Peter David in general. His stories actually aren't too bad, but he always manages to spoil it. I gave this anthology four stars because four of the books deserve five stars, but the New Frontier book deserves none.
Rating: Summary: Awesome! Review: I thought this was a great book. Exciting, entertaining, and a lot of just plain fun. It was great to hear about familiar faces in new and different kinds of stories. Captain Picard's was the best, with Calhoun's and Sisko's coming in behind. But the thing is, they're all good. They have a new twist of creativity from the junk that sorry to say is coming out right now. I loved the lizard! The lizard rules because he is the coolest sidekick in the story! Definetly worth reading. You got to check this one out.

Rating: Summary: Very good concept Review: I've read all of these books in this incredible series, except Kirk's (not much of a Kirk fan), which I intend to eventually. The concept of Captain's Table is absolutly brilliant. Calhoun's and Picard's story easily the best, but Sisko's a huge let down. Be sure to look at my reviews on each book in this series, except Kirk's (of course).

Rating: Summary: All In All, a Fascinating Set of Stories, But. . . Review: On the whole, I enjoyed the six books that make up The Captain's Table. However, the Janeway story, while quite interesting, was a disappointment because the crew of Voyager hardly appeared at all. I would definitely have preferred the sixth story to have been a Chakotay adventure while he was with the Maquis, with Tom Paris, B'Elanna, Tuvok, Seska, possibly Ro Laren, and/or Tom Riker. I think Chakotay and Ro Laren would have made quite an interesting couple! I didn't think Christopher Pike really belonged in this series, although his adventure was a good one. I don't really consider him a large part of the Star Trek universe. Even Kasidy Yates would have been a better choice for a novel. Therefore I took away a star.
