Rating: Summary: Disappointing, though slightly redeeming at the end Review: Speed of Darkness is one of the most original Starcraft novels to date, keeping its focus more on "new" characters rather than following the heroes of the Starcraft computer game. Yet even with the fresh cast, the book sufferes from so many sci-fi cliches and overused plotlines that it does not feel original. Combine that with stereotypical characters and a protagonist most readers won't like (or identify with) throughout most of the novel and you've got a book that, in my opinion, isn't worth reading.Still, the last "scene" of the book is well done, and will give hardcore fans a brief reprieve from the feeling that they've wasted their money. It is not, however, good enough for me to recommend this book to anyone I know (and like).
Rating: Summary: The coolest war book around!!! Review: Star Craft: Speed of Darkness Star Craft: Speed of Darkness, by Tracy Hickman, is book of alien warfare at a planet's outpost. The book was the coolest, and I loved it. The book has great detail- 'The long, deep-ivory talons extending from each of its forearms snapped toward the terrified Marine. The Zerglings vomit-brown head cowl reared back as it screeched hideously.'-and I didn't want to put it down. The best part of the book was the battles that take place on different parts of the planet. At first, it takes a little while to get into, but once you get to the third chapter, you will not want to put it down. The main character is Ardo Melinkov, the main character, starts out as a farmer on a world called Bountiful. Ardo later becomes a marine for the Terran Confederacy, for an unknown reason. After his training on Mar Sara, the combat takes place on another part of the planet, and once the combat starts you WILL NOT want to put the book down.
Rating: Summary: umm.. Review: The novel was a fast read. And it does capture some of the starcraft world and its brutality. The story to me seemed too thin, though there are dramatic elements.
Rating: Summary: Best Starcraft book so far! Review: The two previous starcraft books were ok, but could have been a lot better. Speed of Darkness far surpasses them. This book does not include any characters from the computer series, but familiar factions like the Confederacy and the Sons of Korhal show up. The setting is on Mar Sara (a confederate frontiers planet, for all who did not play the game), and the main character is Ardo Melkinov, a "resoc" whose family and friends were killed by the zerg. Or so he thought. I just read the book, and I cannot find a problem with it, besides the fact that it is too short. This is an excellent book, and does justice to the universe of starcraft.
Rating: Summary: For a Starcraft Fan, this is a Must!! Review: This book takes an untraditional turn when it comes to the Starcraft series of books. You live the life of a terran marine, and are forced to go through terrible ordeals. This book gives valuable background information in the Starcraft plot and provides readers with numerous twists that keep the story exciting. I would recomment this book to any Starcraft fan, especially those who have read the previous two books.

Rating: Summary: great story but to short Review: This book was much better then the second one. The ending didn't shock me but left me in a spot to figure out what happened. No it doesn't leave you hanging, but it doesn't go to the very last moment. Overall this book kept me looking for the fourth and I am still looking.
Rating: Summary: Scifi fans and Starcraft fans rejoice! Review: This is definitely the best Starcraft book so far and totally redeems the Starcraft novel series. If you haven't read any of the novels yet, you should start with this one, since none of the stories are connected. (But definitely DON'T read "Shadow of the Xel'Naga") Taking place during the beginning of the STARCRAFT game (before BROOD WARS), it follows a band of soldiers through a single battle as they go against the Zerg. The writer really researched the world and portrays everything realistically and in detail (so the book is exciting even if you never played the game). Like how those Terran barracks can spit out marines so quickly. Sorry Protoss fans - since this is early in the STARCRAFT wars, the Protoss never show up or are even mentioned here. The story follows Aldo through the Confederates' training/brainswiping and spits him out against the Zerg which are finally portrayed realistically.
