Rating: Summary: Not as good as it seems Review: I thought that the book Liberty's Crusade, by Jeff Grubb, was an okay book. I would rate it about three out of five because it didn't exactly have the greatest plot. The author went into pretty good detail about the characters and the setting, which gave you a better visual idea of what was happening. In the book it seemed like you needed to have knowledge of the video game "Star Craft" because that is what everything in the book is based on. Most of the main characters were from that game. I think Jeff Grubb is very, very creative. I think the book could have been more entertaining. Overall the book was okay but could have been better.
Rating: Summary: Fun and light read Review: This was fun for me to read. Something that nobody else has mentioned is that this book has got some humor in it, unlike Shadow of the Xel'Naga (don't read that one). Maybe it's just me, but I found this pretty funny in parts. Mike Liberty is a great character, very believable, and generally likable. The existing characters (Raynor, Kerrigan, Duke, Mengsk) were all kept the same and were very well portrayed, with the possible exception of Raynor. The descriptions don't quote the Starcraft manual, and they were well written. I enjoyed this book a lot.
Rating: Summary: Good and Not So Good at the same time Review: For everyone who has played the game, this book makes you smile reminding you of Raynor or Kerrigan. Also, the BASIC idea behind the story is not bad. That's why I gave it three stars. On the other hand, this ain't no Asimov! The story lacks skilled character development as well as well written twists and turns. Although the ideas ARE there, the execution is not breath taking. As I've said before, reading the book makes you smile, but that's mainly due to your imagination, and not due to powerful descriptive images nor due to story development that keeps you on the edge. For the smiles, I give it 3.5 stars, but for the actual writing, I give it 2. I might be too harsh though. All that stuff being said, Jeff Grubb does flesh out our beloved characters, a little deeper and further than the game does. Not enough, but deeper. I had high expectations for the book since the game is so good ;) Since it's not expensive, if you've played Starcraft and love the game, read it. If you haven't played Starcraft, don't buy it. Just don't set your expectations too high.
Rating: Summary: good book, but not quite as expected Review: I thought that this book would be action packed and exciting; however, it doesn't give much details on any one battle or focus on some specific issue in starcraft in general. As a result, the book covers almost from the whole starcraft game's story line(which is huge), and what should have been a 3 book serie is packed into one 400 pages book. The story is quite vague, and I would like to see more specific details on battles and that sort. As a book, i think it's not bad, but as a starcraft book(which is what it is), I think it needs more improvement.
Rating: Summary: A Good Read Review: While these books lack the depth you'd find in Terry Brooks and Tolkien, if you like reading Sci-Fi or even just like'd Starcraft(PC Game) you'll enjoy these books. While I was hoping it would be longer, Kerrigan is by far the best Character in all of the books and the best Character in the game itself. I highly recommend this book and am saddened that more Starcraft books weren't made, this is the best book in the series.
Rating: Summary: WOW! What a great book! Review: This is such a cool book. It follows the video game almost perfectly, and includes battles not in the games as well. Great detail on how they fight battles. I think it was a great book, but something bugged me. At the beginning of the book, I think around chapter 4, when the Norrad 2 fly's by Chou Sara, the see a lard protoss army. I expected a battle, but the protoss just fly away. I also want to know how they destroyed a planet with carriers. Well anyway, In this book, they first meet the Zerg and Protoss in this book, even though the protoss don't do much in this book. But Mar Sara, and Chou Sara are bombed by the protoss, while the Sons of Corhall are gathering more troops. It's a great book! I'm glad I bought it, now I'm reading the second book, for StarCraft. WARNING: This book has hard language such as the two B words and the A word. If parents don't want kids to see there words, you should not buy this book, I suggest You be at least 13 years old for this book, unless your parents don't mined that you see bad words in books.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Adaptation of the Terran's Struggle. Review: I was very impressed with the way the author developed all the characters. It was clear, well thought out and written. I thought the battles were a little brief though, and Raynor was more like a cowboy in the book than in the game which caught me off guard a little. The only real reason I took one star away is the book got a little over dramatic at times. Scenes with Kerrigan were done a little over the top, while reading this I almost heard violins playing in the background. However despite that I still think this is a great book to read and I loved how it's thru the eyes of a reporter, who would've thought that? My conclusion is buy it. Great deal for a great book and you like sci-fi books, it should be no hard task to finish this in a few hours which is another real problem that annoyed me. But buy it anyway.
Rating: Summary: Really good game->book transition. Review: I've read this book 5 times already, and i read it every time i don't have anything else to do. Every time i read it, it makes me play the game once more, and every time i play it, i find new links to the book. The characters' attributes are exactly those from the book, and i can almost imagine Jim Raynor being played by Brad Pitt in a StarCraft movie, and i really hope there will be one (it's the only thing that's missing). If you haven't read it yet, you should trust these reviews, not the fact that it was translated from a computer game. I'm currently trying to get my parents to read it. Conclusion: 5 star book, i have nothing wrong to say about this book.
Rating: Summary: A Good Read Review: This book was based almost line to line to the game. They even quoted some of the main heros. I give it a four. There isn't much I can say about this one. Except if your a hardcore "Starcraft" fan, this books for you.
Rating: Summary: Great for StarCraft fans. Review: Jeff Grubb strikes me as a very talented author. He created a good science-fiction novel based on the story of the game. However, it seems like his efforts to stay loyal to the story also acted against him. After all, even though Blizzard created an outstanding story for the game, it is designed as a backdrop for several different campaigns. It is hard to connect all of that into a novel. The author did a good job by creating a character that will connect all of the pieces together but at times the character's actions don't make sense. His descriptions of the Zerg and the Terran ghosts were wonderful. He does need a new editor though. There were some too obvious grammar errors and at least two occasions where wrong character names were used.
