Rating: Summary: An excelent story that fills in the blanks about Red Dwarf. Review: For any Red Dwarf fan this book is just what you've been looking for. Many of the story changes that occurred in the TV series were a result of Grant and Naylor going with the superior background story they set up in this novel. The book tells the basic stories of the first season masterfully blended into one continuous plot. Descriptions of the city sized Red Dwarf and the ruins of the cat civilization help you imagine what Grant and Naylor could have done with those first season episodes if given the budget of the most recent series. Did I mention that this book would be a terific starting point for any new fans? Well it would.
Rating: Summary: Anyone doesn't know the series who's reading this? No? Review: I think that Red Dwarf is a masterpiece of it's type. As I've noticed in many books telling the stories of comic series, or written by comics (e.g. Stark by Ben Elton), the humour is less gag after gag and more a constant stream of lower-homour jokes. Nothing actively makes you laugh out loud, but you can't stop smiling. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes the series - and who doesn't? Anyone? What a surprise. Red Dwarf is, like the show, absolutely smeggin' brilliant. The first encounter between Lister and Rimmer, which you don't get in the series (it's before Lister joins the Dwarf crew) is a work of genius. Have... fun...
Rating: Summary: BEYOND HILARIOUS!!!! Review: This book is a retelling of various episodes of "Red Dwarf" ("The End", "Future Echoes", "Me2", "Kryten", and "Better Than Life") only much more detailed and funnier. A definite pick for any Dwarf-ite, and a must-have book for your collection.
Rating: Summary: F U N N Y Review: I took this on holiday with me and got some funny looks as I bellowed with laugther at some of the lines. Especially the rubber plant and the brothel scenes.
Rating: Summary: Bri-smegging-illant Review: I am obsessed with Red Dwarf the show, and now with the books as well. Rimmer is coming back for the eighth season!!! Boy have I have missed the neurotic smeg-head.'Infinity' is definately the best book in the series with 'Better Than Life' making a close second. 'Last Human' and 'Backwards' both have great and not-so-great attributes, but simply put are not of the same humour callibur of the first two. (I am still in shock about what Rob Grant did to Ace in 'Backwards.' It all went downhill from there.) The truth is that to truly understand the characters and their dialog, you have to see them portrayed by Chris Barrie, Craig Charles, Danny John-Jules, and Robert Llewelyn. They are smegging brilliant. I loved this book!
Rating: Summary: An all time favorite. Review: Never before have I read a book in which the author can ramble for a whole chapter about something that doesn't pertain and then somehow twist it into the storyline leaving you with a weird feeling in your brain, or maybe that was just me.
Rating: Summary: Not quite Ace Rimmer, but still quite wholesome smeg here. Review: This is probably the best of all four 'Red Dwarf' books published so far: at this time the writers had not yet split up, and they also didn't have to contend with Chris Barrie's resignation (ie, no more Arnold Rimmer in the series). The sophisticated wit is nonexistant, which means to say that all the jokes are very dirty and therefore highly funny as well. The characters are all we would expect them to be from watching the TV series, unlike later sequels which take some artistic liberties. However, a couple of departures from the series are seen, and a few issues are never explained (like who was Jim and Bexley's mother?), so the book has an unfinished feel to it. But if you like a very silly read and don't mind other people looking at you strangely as you laugh out loud, 'Red Dwarf' is a good investment.
Rating: Summary: One of the best Sci-Fi Humors I've read Review: Both the Red Dwarf novels stand alone from the television series. Funnier than Douglas Adams and more engaging. I can not remember a better scene than the opening of Infinity Welcomes Careful Drives. Hilarious, depressing and totally pointless. The book takes off from there and the laughter really doesn't stop until the end of Better than Life. I've been looking for addition books in the series for years.
Rating: Summary: Read This or you're smegged up Review: This book is the smegging best. Where else do you find robot prostitute sheep, traffic jams where people die of hunger waiting, and a highly evolved cat who looks like a human but is obsessed with cleanliness and fashion. Just read the book, okay!
Rating: Summary: BUY IT BUY IT BUY IT Review: This book is funkalicious. Buy it now or you miss out on the second funniest sci-fi book ever. (BTW, Hitchiker's Guide is the funniest. I think so at least. If you haven't read it, do it now.)
