Rating: Summary: Gotta read this book! Review: For the past few years, I've read most of R.A. Salvatore's books, so I decided to give the other big Forgotten Realms writer a chance. Cunningham wrote a great book. If you are into character building then this is the book for you. You'll find yourself falling in love with Danilo. The book moves at a perfect pace that keeps the story moving with an ideal amount of detail. Everything in this book just works great, especially for Cunningham's first novel. End of story: I am now a huge Elaine Cunningham fan and I can't wait to read the next book in the series, or even any other book by Cunningham. If you are a FR fan, read this book. If not, read it anyway.
Rating: Summary: Surprised me Review: I have to say, this book surprised me. When I began reading it I didnt expect to like it as much as I did. I mean, about the only Forgotten Realms stuff I've read has been Salvatore and I was afraid to read anyone else lest I be disappointed. But I wasn't with Elaine Cunningham. Her characters and plot take you along on a ride that is neither disappointing nor impossible (as many fantasy plots become) The plot is rather understandable but nonetheless interesting... someone is killing Harpers and the prime suspect is a Harper agent. Arilyn Moonblade, a half-elven Harper 'assassin' whose magical sword will only let her engage an armed and preapred enemy in 'honorable' combat, which is a bit of a drawback when the enemy doesn't have a trace of honor, is the suspect. All the murdered Harpers have been near her yet she herself has not been killed... And the Harpers, who seem to have communication problems, send a few diffrent investigators... not all of whom are interesting in saving the Harpers. If you've never read a Forgotten Realms book try this one as well as the Salvatore books. Both these authors make the Forgotten Realms so vivid and populate it with interesting people and things. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: A very good written book filled with wonder and intrigue Review: I liked this book a lot. The interaction between the stubborn and withdrawn half-elf and the charming-annoying mysterious ways of Danilo make for a very fun combanation to read, espcially if you are looking to brush up on sarcasim 101. If you are out looking for a book full of adventure and danger and heroic journeys this is not that at all. But i found it great never the less.
Rating: Summary: This Book Was Absolutely Great! Review: I loved this book.It was really good.If you like any of the forgotten realms books then you'll love this one.It has everything in it you like about books.I liked that it has some comedic stuff in it.It's about this girl Arilyn Moonblade who inhereits a sword. There's this assassin who follows her.He kills someone and it just so happens that she's always near it.And he leaves the Harper sign somewhere on the victim. She finds a man named Danilo Thann and they try to find the assassin together.I would tell you more but I obviously wouldn't want to spoil anything for you now would I?Anyway go read the book and I'm sure you'll love it too.
Rating: Summary: One of the best Review: I probably say this because i have onle been reading for like 2 months now and nothing but R.A.Salvatore and Elaine Cunningham. Personaly i think that this book cathes you from the start and the characters well let me just say this they feel so alive that you cry with them and you feel joy with them. I recomend this book from my heart..Mats Helge Sweden
Rating: Summary: a painful read Review: I'm a huge fan of forgotten realms books, but this is possibly one of the worst I have read. This book is extremely unrealistic (If that is possible for DnD) Arilyn, the main character, is possibly the lamest character in all of faerun. (Matching an elven weaponmaster in battle at about the age of 10???) Although it is nice to see someone besides the master R.A. Salvatore write a story with an elf as the main charater. Danilo on the other hand is a fairly well made character. But his true potential as a character is never seen as Cunningham keeps him as somewhat of a comedy relief. Like the title says, a very painful read.
Rating: Summary: A module with dialogue Review: I'm not sure who writes the glowing reviews for these books. The characters are shallow, with no real development. I've watched Mystery Science Theater movies with better dialogue. Don't get me wrong: the author does a great job of setting up the world, and the premise of the plot is fantastic. It's just that the execution is almost painful to watch. For every great idea that is put into the book, there are 2 idiotic things that distract from it. If you are under 13 and like D&D, read this book. If you want real fantasy with tension and characters, go read David Gemmell or George R.R. Martin.
Rating: Summary: I've joined the ranks of Elaine Cunningham's fans. Review: I've definitely found a new author to read - I plan to follow all of Arilyn and Danilo's later adventures! I liked Danilo's Don Diego / Percy Blakeney-ish character, and Arilyn's background as an "honorable assassin" is original. The book has a good premise carried out in enjoyable writing and plotting.
Rating: Summary: a fun Forgotten Realms book Review: Normally I hate tie-ins for rpg's and so on; most of them are awful. But Cunningham's one of the (few) exceptions. Here she sets up an interesting mystery about a half-elf and her mystical sword, not to mention the tangled (and trying!) relationships between Arilyn (the half-elf) and the apparent wastrel, Danilo Thann of Waterdeep. My only complaint was the culprit's motives--seemed a bit too tied to the AD&D alignment system, and wasn't entirely convincing. But worth a look.
Rating: Summary: Generally a good book Review: Now, when it comes to writing Forgotten Realms novels, there is only to authers the can do that: Elaine Cunningham and Ed Greenwood. This book is generally a good book, that deserves a lot of respect. Its storyline is about the Quessir; Aralyn Moonblade that has a misterious sword. Sha and an unwellcome traveler named Danilo Thann, has to unlock the swords powers to protect the future of the Harpers from a enemy unknown. Its is worth the money...
