Rating: Summary: Probably a good book for teens! Review: I would have loved this book as a teen, for adults though its a bit marginal. I didn't think the characters were very interesting, at least not the way they were portrayed. The combat scenes also seemed silly in lots of places, I mean these guys aren't just fantasy heroes, they are superheroes right up there with superman, the hulk, etc... Don't get me wrong, I like the superhero genre, I just think its a different genre then fantasy, even high fantasy. It also tends to get old hearing how awesomely unbeatable certain heroes of the book are, then see them get in a fight and yep, sure enough, the bad guys didn't stand a chance. I normally like to see my heroes challenged a bit more than that. Bottomline, if you are going to read it to see what all the fuss is about and you aren't a teenage boy then I'd say don't. Lastly, for those criticizing R.A. for stealing from tolkein, don't blame him, most of the stuff complained about is hardwired into the AD&D game and forgotten realms setting, which were pretty much based on tolkein's world in the first place.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: I would highly recommend this excellent book to any fan of the forgotten realms books or anyone else who just plain likes fantasy!
Rating: Summary: Better than the first! Review: I'm sorry about the horrible review I gave for this book. All i said was "Better than the first! What else can i Say!" Let me start anew. This book is my favorite Salvatore book that he's written so far. He writes down such amazing detail, yet makes it so simple, you feel like your there in every part. The book immediatly starts where Crystal Shard left off. Drizzt, Wulfgar, Bruneor, and Regis are off to find the ancient dwarven home known as Mithrall Hall. Drizzt is off just to help, but learns that he must fight racism(like real life), Wulfgar is trying to like magics and give up greedy traditions. Regis is running away from the most deadly assassin of all, and Bruneor is fighting and helping to make his way back to home.I felt that this is his best work yet. With some parts that are a little borrowed, but with more emotion and desription which makes it totally original. Very good 2nd book.
Rating: Summary: Awesome! The Forgotten Realms "how it should be done" book Review: If you like D&D, Swords & Sorcery, Adventure, or just escapism, READ THIS! I got hook from this book, Now I own every Forgotten Realms book ever sold. (Unfortunately, the bad ones too). This book is great. Excellent story, excellent cast of characters, excellent detailing. It was as though I was there. I was exhausted after reading it! 5 hours.
Rating: Summary: The search for Mithril Hall begins Review: In the second installment of The Icewind Dale Trillogy, we follow the companions of the hall on their journey to find Brunor Battlehammers long lost home. It is a long journey for the friends and many memories are made for them, but one will follow them for a long time. An assassin on a search for the halfling Regis and his magical ruby pendant. Will they find mithril hall? Will the assassing get Regis? You will just have to find out, And you will have a blast doing it.
Rating: Summary: Great!....(for Salvatore) Review: OK if I had never read any of Tolkien's stuff I would probably be like, "Wow this book is pretty average!" But, since I have read Tolkien's stuff, I am saying, "Wow, I can't believe this guy hasn't been sued!" An elf, dwarf, hobbit, and barbarian set off to reclaim "Mithral Hall" from a dragon Shimmergloom (yeah, I know, I'm embarassed to have read a book with a character named Shimmergloom in it too). Everything in this book sucks. Except of course for Entreri. He's cool. The feud thing with him and Drizzt was cool at this point (it gets old by the tenth or eleventh book oops sorry I didn't mean to give anything away). Anyway this is one of my favorite Salvatore books outside of "Siege of Darkness" (it still sucks). Basically I can sum up my Salvatore admiration, or lack thereof in one sentence: His bad guys are really cool, his good guys ruin his books. And you wanna know why? Well I will tell you...because his bad guys actually have to work, use their brains, cunning, be sneaky, whatever...his good guys on the other hand, can actually go out looking for trouble, because they are too strong for anyone else...there's no danger, never any doubt, we know Drizzt's scimitars are going to do their deadly dance and Bruenor is going to chop up some goblin, all the while talking trash, knowing that Salvatore would never have him, or any other main character die . Now you are probably saying, this guy (me) is a complete jerk, he's giving away too much stuff! Fine, just don't blame me when you buy like 20 of Salvatore's books like I did, read them, and then suddenly realize they are crap.
Rating: Summary: Very good Review: Okay anyone who doesn't like this book is a moron. What is there not to like. Okay, I understand if you don't like these kind of books then there is a reason for you to think differently from what I an saying, but if you like things like this and don't like this book I think that you should go read goosebumps or some stupid thing like that.
Rating: Summary: Intro to Enteri Review: Probably the most complex character in R. A. Salvatore's series is Artemis Enteri. Salvatore's writing is at his best when the dark assassin is at center stage. In Streams of Silver, the reader first meets Atremis Enteri, and a chill is sent through your spine. The battles between Enteri and Drizzt are many, but it is in this novel that they first meet.
Rating: Summary: What a great author this R. A. Salvatore is. Review: R. A. Salvatore has a great talent for writing his books. He keeps the reader in awe; I mean when I start reading his books I just can't stop. The way that he describes the characters and the battle scenes is just brilliant. I admit it, I was impressed at the ending of this book. If you like fantasy adventure. You'll like his books.
Rating: Summary: Exellent! Review: R. A. Salvatore has great writing style, and it's a great book in general. But everyone is saying that it's so bad because he took it from J.R.R. Tolkein. But in truth, he did. But everyone says that he is copying. But there all jsut trying to find ways to make everything look so similar and copied. But it isn't copying, it is homage. Bruenor's battle with Shimmergloonm was taken exactly from Gandolf's battle with Balrog? Please! You can tell right there that the person was TRYING to make it look like copying. And let's say he did copy. R. A. Salvatore is still a great author, and J.R.R. Tolkein is an exellent author, and I can't see why someone wouldn't want to base there work on his.And everyone is complaining that the book is sexist. Is the world politicly correct? NO! Nothing is completly politicly correct! And let's say it is sexist. Name one book that IS completly politicly correct (Other than the popular book series titled "Politicly Correct). I didn't think so.
