Rating: Summary: All in all an good fantasy trilogy. Review: I agree that he seems to stem off of Tolkien. However, we have to remember that Tolkien actualy invented the world all of this comes from. Salvatore has taken this and spiced it up somewhat a lot. While Tolkien will always be my favorite fantasy author Salvatore rates on up there.
Rating: Summary: Too good to be true! Review: I borrowed this book from a friend in 1995 and read it in a matter of hours! I just couldn't put the durn thing down! Since then, I have bought all of Salvatore's books and have read all of them at least twice, some of them four times!
Rating: Summary: Salvatore is one of the greatest. Review: I don't understand why people here complaint about Salvatore copying Tolkien's work. I've read the Lord of the rings trilogy 6 times and i'm reading the complete serie of Salvatore's work for the second time (including the Cleric quintet) and I don't see what all the fuzz is about. Even in the book Streams of silver, I don't get a sense of déjà vu from Tolkien's masterpiece. Anyway, I find Salvatore a major player in the fantasy world of the Forgotten Realms. As for the carachters, they are heroes and not superheroes! If you want superheroes and indestructible vilains, read Greenwood's books. Drizzt is mighty but he is weak on the surface world because of the prejudices people have of his race. He is more human than what appears at first hand. And Artemis Entreri is evil beyond anything normal but don't forget that this is FANTASY. And don't forget too that Icewind Dale trilogy was the first Big written work of Salvatore and that he was not yet a bestselling author. And I still find that his work is sublime.
Rating: Summary: The greatest author of Fantasy novels ever! Review: I grew up playing Advanced Dungeon's and Dragon's. R.A. Salvatore and his Trilogy's are the greatest books I have ever read. I would recomend these books to anyone! The character's in these stories will have a place in my heart for the rest of my life.
Rating: Summary: Slow at the beggining, but all in good time. Review: I honestly get a little tired of the way the heroes talk to each other. The way Bruenor gruffs at everyone or how everyone is always intrigued by their companions. Once this book gets near the end, it picks up. You really have to read the whole series though to truly appreciate the rest. The fights are excellent near the end. Entreri seems like a great villian and I was always eager to see how he will combat the heroes. He is much better than that stupid apprentice power-monger(u know who im talking about) and he really does have a good fight or two.
Rating: Summary: great sequal Review: I read the Icewind Dale Trilogy. Streams of Silver and it was a great book, the story was good and I loved all the characters, aside from Drizzt I also loved the assassin Artemis Entreri he is the best villian I have seen in a long time and the best at what he does and matches Drizzt's moves and sword play as good as Drizzt, plus he is smart and crafty. while Drizzt's one weekness that Entreri thinks is Drizzt's caring for his freinds, Entreri's weekness is the need to be the best at what he does and when he finds out that Drizzt is his equal at his craft he has this need to prove that he is better than Drizzt. Entreri need to prove he is better than Drizzt,Drizzt does not need to prove he is better than Entreri, that is the main difference between the two. I highly recommened this book and series.
Rating: Summary: Edge-of-your-seat storytelling! Review: I read the last half of the book in one sitting! I couldn't pull myself away. It was, of course, the first time we had been introduced to Artemis Entreri, after the brief mention in "The Crystal Shard". Entreri MADE this book. Salvatore's ability to write engaging, well-thought-out, deep characters is what makes this such a great book. The fact that the tension just mounts & mounts as the story goes along is a direct result of the great character development. The ending leaves you hanging because of events leading up to the next book in the series, "The Halfling's Gem". I'm glad I was able to get it immediately after finishing this book. I would hate to have read it as a new release & wait months & months on the next book. I don't think I could have stood it! GREAT BOOK!
Rating: Summary: Even if you don't get into fantasy.... Review: I think you would love this book and its partners in trilogy. Holy heck! You find yourself caring about these warriors that other authors merely use as slicers and dicers. Salvatore explores the depth of character with sensitive intimacy and draws his reader inexorably into the adventure while doing so! What a great book and wonderful series! You have gotta read it!
Rating: Summary: great 2nd book Review: I thought I reviewed this book but I didn't see it on my personnal Review page. The 2nd book continues the adventures Drizzt ,Regis,Bruenor,Catti-bre,Wulfgar and the first apperance of Entreri the assassin(my Favorite next to Drizzt) he kidnaps Regis and the friends hunt him down. great story and characters who you believe in and care about. I can't wait to read R.A. Salvatore's other books.
Rating: Summary: This is the first Forgotten Realms book I read. Review: I was in about grade six when I decided I should read a book. I found a book on the shelf that had a really cool looking cover so I bought it. The book was Streams of Silver. I loved this book so much that I would run around pretending to be Drizzt fighting make beleive trolls and assasins. After a while I began collecting every Forgotten Realms book I could get my hands on. To date I have 73 of them. This is the greatest book for first time fantsy readers, Salvatore will make you want to know more and more about the Realms and especially Drizzt. This book is a must read.
