Summary: A must-have for all Magic players!
Review: This book is an incredable storytelling of the war between Urza and Mishra. It is authentic, as it carries the WotC seal of approval. Whether you want to learn about Magic, have no clue about the game, or you are the world champion, this book is for you!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Nice Historical Background to Magic
Review: This book is well-written and gives a good dose of information on the background and mythology involving Urza & Mishra. If you play Magic, this book really gives you great 'atmosphere' behind some of the cards. If you don't play Magic, read this book and check out the game.

Summary: My All-Time Favorite Book
Review: This has got to be the best Magic: The Gathering Novel ever written! It reveals the history of Urza and Mishra and the war between them. It also reveals familiar Magic: the Gathering icons such as Urza and Mishra themselves, Tawnos, Ashnod and her Transmogrants, Feldon, the su chi, and many others. A true masterpiece among fantasy novels.

Summary: History of Dominaria revealed!
Review: Magic: The Gathering fans rejoice! Jeff Grubb has produced the long awaited story behind the popular collectible card game. The story is long and at times can be tedious, but eventually the pace picks up and the story grabs you. Fans of the game will enjoy seeing well known artifacts "brought to life" in prose, and learning more about the lives of Urza and Mishra. I enjoyed the story immensely, but can't help but wonder why it was called Book 1? The story begins and ends with the final battle of the Artifacts War, so where can it go from here? Still, I'll definately read any sequel. I encourage all M:tG fans to read the book. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: Excellent depiction of the epic battle between Urza & Mishra
Review: Jeff Grubb is obviously a skilled writer. In The Brothers War, he unravels the mystery of the epic battle between the noble, bolt-straight, Urza and his sinister, evil, bulky brother. The story starts out with the death of both brothers' father. Fate brought the gifted Urza and Mishra to Tocasia's artifact camp. The two brothers grow up and find many interesting and powerful artifacts during their teenage years. Later, they would abuse the powers they find beneath these artifacts and reck the world only to seek a way to destory the other brother. The story is very balanced and has a sense of Yin and Yang. Urza and Mishra are perfect enemies. Urza is the strung, uptight, yet good brother. His knowledge is encyclopedic and his mind like a machine. His weakness is his devotion to work and his solitude. Mishra is exactly the opposite. Living with the savage tribes, he soon becomes close to them and takes over their united forces. He is very lively and the artifacts he uses reflects his spirit. The epic continues to include Kayla, Urza's son, Tawnos, Ashnod, Drafna, Hurkyl, Titania, & Feldon. My favorite parts were when Urza won Kayla's heart, the first time Urza and Mishra got the ornithopter to fly, and the decisive battle with The Colossus Of Sardia and The Force Of Nature. Players of Magic The Gathering will absolutely LOVE this book! I've always wondered how the Brothers' War had been like before I purchased this book. I probably have given you too much of the story. Sorry. I hope that you will purchase this book and enjoy the wonderful, rich story of The Brothers War. -Tony

Summary: Really good can't wait tell the second vol. 2
Review: I had really high expectations for this book and I still really liked it. Sometimes it gets a little tiresome but then it kicks back up

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Excellent depiction of the Brothers War
Review: The first book to the Artifacts Cycle and the introduction to the 1998-1999 expansion sets for Magic: the Gathering, Brothers War is a powerful, faithful depiction of the events of the Antiquities expansion. It plows over some of the old storylines, but manages to present a coherent, plausible tale of the brothers Urza and Mishra.

The book begins with a prologue-set on the 'night before the end of the world.' It quickly follows up with an accurate depiction of the Brothers' lives under the artificer-scholar Tocasia, and then gradually progresses to the climactic meeting in the hidden Cave of Koilos. There is some very interesting writing in the stages after this, when Urza courts the Princess Kayla bin-Kroog. In general, the book is exemplary compared to most other Magic: the Gathering novels, though its memorable scenes mainly draw their power from the player's familiarity with characters, scenes, cards, etc. Perhaps the most fascinating portion of this book i! s the meeting between Urza's son and the elven queen Titania, and the scenes that precede it-they are remarkably vivid and worth re-reading. The final battle is not as exciting as should befit it, nor is the destruction wreaked by the magical Sylex (an artifact capable of destroying entire continents) but the rest of the book makes up for the drop off at the end. Overall, an absorbing, faithful book.

Summary: If you like Magic The Gathering, you HAVE to read this book!
Review: The Brother's War is a great book for Magic: The Gathering fans. Even non-MTG fans would find this book interesting. It explains the whole story of the Antiquities expansion. Urza and Mishra are probably the best known MTG characters and this is their story. READ THE BOOK!

Summary: The Brothers' War: a must read for Magic: The Gathering fans
Review: The Brothers' Wars is the first of the Magic novel line that tells the true story behind the popular card game Magic: The Gathering. If you have ever played Magic, this book will reveal the histories and intrigue behind the characters you have come to know through flavor text and expansion sets. If you haven't played Magic, The Brothers' War will introduce you to a world where artifact machines swoop through the skies on daring raids into enemy territories, where the deepest stench of foul evil comes not from a being of flesh or of metal, but a diseased and wicked abomination of both, and where the rivalry between two brothers starts a war so violent and terrifying that it ravages the lives of every creature, living or undead, on the face of the planet. I couldn't put the book down. As a long time player of Magic: The Gathering, I enjoyed the history behind the brothers, Urza and Mishra, and the introduction of familiar icons such as Ashnod, Tawnos, the Dragon Engine, the Su Chi, the Mightstone and many others. Jeff Grubb does an outstanding job telling the true story behind the characters introduced in the Antiquities expansion set. Look for other upcoming books in the Artifacts Cycle: Planeswalker, by Lynn Abbey; Time Streams, by J. Robert King; and Bloodlines, by Loren Coleman. Step into the world of Magic and onto the war ravaged continent of Terisiare.
