Summary: Homecoming Book One : Homecoming Book One of Two
Review: This is a very good book. However, if you are like me and don't like to have to wait to see how it will end I recomend you wait until July 1st and get this book and book two The Farther Shore by Chritie Golden at the same time. The way book one ends is worst than any 'to be contiuned' show I have ever watched. I am just relived to find out that it is comming out sooner that I thought it would. I will be in line to get the second book as soon as it is avaliable. As in all of the books Ms. Golden writes. This book will keep you glued to it. I stayed up past 4:30am just so I could see how this book would end... and then it didn't end... it was too be countiuned. It wouldn't have surprised me had someone put ... To Be Contiuned... on the last page of this book. A must for any Star Trek Voyager fan. I look forward till July 1 and the release of Book 2 The Farther Shore.

Summary: Truly disappointed
Review: Given the time we've waited for this book, I expected much more than a rehash of the two most over-done plotlines in the series.

The style of writing is far more suited to romance novels than science fiction. And some of these characters--particularly Seven of Nine--are absolutely unrecognizable.

I wish I could give it zero stars, but 1 is the least they allow me.

Summary: An okay dose of Voyager, but not very original
Review: This book wasn't terrible, but it certainly does not stand out in any way. What I enjoyed most was Janeway's interactions with her former fiance Mark, his current wife, and their son. B'Elanna's situation may also prove to be interesting.

However, the holographic "uprising" is contrived and silly, and the Borg threat serves mainly to get the Voyager crew (even though they're not a crew anymore) in trouble, yet put them in a position where they will be able to get together, defy Starfleet, and presumably save the Earth. This having to defy Starfleet was overdone in both Classic Trek (especially the movies) and Next Gen. If Starfleet handles things so badly that ship crews must constantly defy regulations to do the right thing, Starfleet never would have survived this long.

I'll read the second book and hope for the best, but I think Star Trek is losing its punch. While I like many "Enterprise" characters, for instance, the episode plots in Season 2 were tired retreads of old Trek plots (transporter malfunctions, stranded on a "desert" planet with a space babe, etc.) and even an episode that was a remake of the movie "Enemy Mine"! It's time for some fresh blood among the writers -- and to be fair, they must be given a little more freedom to do interesting things with the characters.

Summary: Finally home but at what cost
Review: As with many viewers, questions rattled around in my head as the starship Voyager drifted into view of home. This novel makes an attempt to answer those questions but unfortunately the answers were difficult to swallow.

The enormous task of relaunching the Star Trek Voyager I do not envy but as a fan I felt robbed by the direction. As an inspiring writer I understand action and suspense sells novels and Homecoming does exactly that. Golden throws the crew directly in harms way but sacrifices the answers to the question.

All of the questions were answered too quickly. Seven years of questions and problems and dreams, resolved in the first few chapters, I felt disappointed. Everything with the homecoming of the crew seemed perfect. The conflict of the story was new and external. It had nothing to do with the crew and their families and the return home.

Once I accepted that the resolutions I wanted to see were not going to happen, I was able to delve into the novel and accept the story. As a fan I will continue to follow the characters I loved on the little screen and see how their lives develop at home.

Summary: The Voyage Home
Review: I've been waiting for this book ever since the series finale aired 2 years ago! For all those who are curious as to what happens to the crew when they return to Earth, this book has the answers! This is part one of a 2-part series which continues with The Farther Shore due July 1st!

Summary: What took so long?
Review: Readable and passably well-written, Christie Golden's story picks up where the final Voyager TV episode, "Endgame," leaves off. The crew's reunions with their families and friends are handled in sufficient detail without excessive repetition for different characters: comparing Janeway & Mark with Tuvok & T'Pel is actually quite amusing! Including Picard and Troi was a nice touch. Pity about Seven rejecting Chakotay right after the happy ending they both deserved.
There isn't much real originality to the story, however. The main themes - holographic rights and the Borg threat - are spun out unimaginatively from the TV series, although it thankfully qualifies the apparent total defeat of the Borg in "Endgame," as I didn't want to believe that they could be wiped out so easily! The author might have further developed elements of alienation felt after 7 years away, or how technology and society might have changed as a result of the Dominion War.
The one decent innovation was to make Libby Webber a real character with her own secrets and agenda - not just a welcome-home treat for Harry Kim. And who was Lyssa Campbell? Maybe I missed the TV episode in which she guested, or maybe Golden just invented her: a questionable thing to do, instead of using one of the more interesting guest crewmembers such as Mortimer Harron or Tal Selless.
Overall, the book does cover a lot of decent emotional ground and sets the scene for a potentially fascinating second installment. But seeing that a sizeable excerpt from this story was included in the novelisation of "Endgame" - TWO YEARS ago - one wonders why we have waited so long for the whole thing. Is Golden just a slow writer (like me?), or was there some unsavoury and unnecessary diffculty getting copyright approval for a series follow-up? One hopes that the wait for "Homecoming" Book 2 won't be quite as protracted, since Book 1 has succeeded in in grabbing one's interest. It could have been much better in its own right, though.

Summary: I waited for this?
Review: I am a big Star Trek fan and have been waiting for this novel and it has been a big letdown. It is supposed to take place after the Voyager episode, "Endgame". One of my biggest pet peeves is when the author said it took Voyager a week to reach Earth. In the last episode Voyager emerged very near earth and there is no way it would have taken it a week to reach it. After that part the book kept going down hill. Starfleet acted as if it was no big deal that they returned, and didnt particularly seem interested in 7 of 9 or the Doctor. Overall it could have been far better written.

Summary: Great Prelude
Review: If you are looking for action, like an episode, this isn't really it. But it is a very good story and a thorough set up for the next book. Lots of reunions and family interaction. Love, humor, disapointment, and politics. We meet Tom's parents, BElanna's father, Seven's aunt, Chakotay's sister, Tuvok's wife and son, Harry's girlfriend Libby etc...Can't wait for The Farther Shore. Wish I could say more, but I hate spoilers, so I won't do them to you! Read the book now and stand in line to wait for The Farther Shore!

Summary: A Payoff for Voyager Fans
Review: This book, set after the series finale, answers the questions television fans have been waiting for: what now?

Although the book was enjoyable in the first few chapters for all these answers, the real fun begins as the mystery starts: how are innocents being infected with a 'Borg flu'?

I'm as guilty as any for enjoying the Borg storyline in this book, but I wish the Star Trek universe could lay off the Borg and find another plot motivator!

Summary: It wasn't great, but I'm not sorry I read it, can't wait #2
Review: I liked the book, it wasn't my favorite, it didn't wow me, but I enjoyed, and lost a whole day to reading it, I'm looking forward to the next book, and to see how other authors use this as a Spring Board to keep some of my favorite characters alive.
