Rating: Summary: Complete but non perfect history of Star Trek saga... Review: As it says in the introduction, there are many contradictions and empty spaces in this history, but if there's a need to understand the way Star Trek works, it's an indispensable reference book. Also for writers who want to create between the time lines listed in the book, it is a very well organized tool, and when possible, it reveals the contradictions or problems found by the authors in conjunction with the original writers, so you can fill in the blanks of the history or propose new theories. Well, it's a must have for those REAL Star Trek fans!!!P.D.: if you want a perfect book, please read the I-Ching...
Rating: Summary: From the Big Bang to th 123rd century, this has everything! Review: Everything I need to know about Star Trek is in this amazing book. The only problem I have with it is that I bought it when Star Trek Deep Space Nine was ending it's fourth season, and in the book, it goes up to the end of it's fourth season. I had no idea what was happening for two years! Oh well, now I know. Anyway, this book really helped me to understand the world of Star Trek, and the amazing thing is, that everything in this book has followed history so far! Anyway, I reccommend this book to any true Star Trek fans!
Rating: Summary: Interesting Review: Gives a complete history of the star trek universe
Rating: Summary: A fine interpretation of current & Star Trek history. Review: Reading this book allowed me, a Star Trek fan, not only to answer questions about various topics related to Star Trek history, but to review current events that have made alot of episodes possible
Rating: Summary: "Timely" Trek Through "History" Review: The idea for The Star Trek Chronology: The History of the Future, came about when the folks at Pocket Books decided to publish a Star Trek Encylopedia. An outline of charaters and key events was needed to help organize the ever expanding Trek saga, so that they could have an easier time of it with the "pedia". Michael and Denise Okuda, staffers on every Star Trek series since TNG, were put in charge of that task. The updated edition from '96 is improved to include information on everything from the big bang through NASA to the film First Contact. By including events from the real world, the authors give the book a much more detailed feel, than it otherwise would have had. It's also fun to relate "our history" to Trek's timeline of events. The book is filled with fun and even some toungue in cheek humor. The 342 page book is not without a few minor mistakes, but given the scope of the chronology, it's still edited better than some other reference books on Trek of late. There are dozens of color photos throughout, no less than 10 apendicies, an index, and a bibliography also included. The chronology is a fun "trek" through time. But it's been quite a long time since the last revised edition. I would welcome an updated version soon
Rating: Summary: The final world on the chronology of the Star Trek Universe. Review: This book is a must have for any serious Star Trek fan. It details the time-line of the often confusing Star Trek universe in careful academic detail, yet the narrative is entertaining enough to make it readable from cover to cover. The pictures are rife throughout the book and intelligently placed (a big gripe of mine is when people show you pictures of things you don't care to see, or put pictures far away from the text referring to them), and there are plenty of discussions about character designs, star ships, and other subtle nuances and contradictions that a book of this depth inevitably stumbles across. Buy it...it will make the Star Trek universe a bit more comprehensible...and a lot more enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST STAR TREK BOOK, EVER! Review: This revised 342 page book has over 1000 pitures! There are some story elements from FUTURE'S END (VOYAGER), FIRST CONTACT, FLASHBACK (VOYAGER), & TRIALS AND TRIBBLE-ATIONS (DS9). This book has appendixes for all of the main characters (from all of the shows). There are extensive notes on Starfleet and the Starships Enterprise, science and technology, planets and societies, alternate timelines, and stardates. Here's what's wrong with the book. Unfortunately, other than YESTERYEAR, there's no information about the cartoons. I've found several typeos, mainly with the captions. The biggest printing error in this book is in the header for DS9 (year 4), and VOYAGER (year 2). The printed year is 2371, but it's supposed to be 2372. Due to the deadline for this book, the year Captain Braxton (VOYAGER'S FUTURE'S END) crashed on earth (1967) hadn't yet been established. Similarly, Kang's 23rd century picture (FLASHBACK) isn't in the book. Finally, the recent tribble (DS9) story hadn't yet been titled. Otherwise, it's a great book. Would someone please e-mail these suggestions about the revisions to pocket books, so that they may revise the book for another printing?
