Rating: Summary: A great guide to the Comedy Central years. Review: This book covers the pre-Sci-Fi Channel years, seasons one through six, and a preview of season seven. The book covers the origins of MST3K, the people responsible, and a pretty detailed review of each episode of seasons one through six. The KTMA days are briefly covered, and although I understand why they didn't want to focus much on them, I wish they had anyway. Each episode is covered by a member of the staff and then commented upon, with a an outline of the Host Segements and Stingers inbetween. It's fun to see what went on behind the scenes and what the staff was thinking about the movie they were tearing apart. There's also a tearful entry from Kevin Murphy about his encounter with Kurt Vonnegut. Also included in the back is a list of their 50 most obscure references; although I could think up about 100 more obscure ones than they have chosen. Another thing I would like to know is where exactly did they get these movies? They explained how they chose them, but not where on Earth they got their hands on them in the first place. That would be very interesting. There's a bio of each member of the gang in the back as well, but Mike's bio is on six or seven other people throughout history rather than himself, I think.
Rating: Summary: As Funny as it is Useful, and Vice-Versa Review: This guide had me laughing uproariously for the several evenings I spent reading it. I couldn't watch MST3K locally during its earlier years and the friend who sent tapes couldn't catch them all. This guide is helping me choose which prerecords to buy first. Because it lists the skits in each episode, you can use it if, say, you can't recall if "My Creepy Girl" was sung during "Catalina Caper" or "Manos: Hands of Fate." Too bad there isn't a MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 AMAZING GUIDE TO THE REST OF THE SEASONS. I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
Rating: Summary: One of the funniest books ever! Review: If you're a fan of MST3K(sure we all are!) then you'll love this book. It gives a look behind the sences info for every show. Best of all it was wrote by the cast and writers of the show.
Rating: Summary: It was amazing, colossal, and stuff! Review: This is the one (well, one of two, the other being Mike Nelson's Movie Mega-Cheese) book that could keep me laughing at every page, and continue to do so each time I read it. This book gives you the feeling that Trace, Kevin, Mike, Mary Jo, and Paul are talking to you, telling you about these episodes! A classic in my opinion!
Rating: Summary: Must have for MSTies... Review: This is a complete book of episodes from season 1 to the end of season 6, it also includes extensive descriptions of movie, and the Host Scenes as well as the casts' feedback, names of the movies and dates shown for the pre-Comedy Central season, plus much more. I just wish they had the episodes 701-1010, but they aren't making any new editions. Are they even printing this book anymore that's my question, I'm lucky to have picked up only copy left at Barnes and Noble. Well, if you like B-movies and/or Mystery Science Theater 3000 buy this, while and if you still can!
Rating: Summary: The MSTies Bible Review: How I love this book. I don't suppose there is any way they will update it to include full writeups post-season six now that the series is cancelled, but I would shell out big bucks if they did. Far more than I would have expected, they managed to encapsulate the wit and fun of the series between the covers. Reading the writeups of "Sidehackers," "Cave Dwellers," "Magic Voyage of Sinbad," etc., brought back to me much of what I loved about each episode (the ridiculousness, the great quips, the madness of the bots and the mads), but without the occasional pain that comes along with two hours of exposure to the worst of the worst. Like all true MSTies, I relish the pain of the bad movies because the worse they are, the funnier the show is, but it still hurts sometimes. The best thing about this book is, it's pain-free, since it's all filtered through the writers. It's not a substitute for the show, of course, but it's a fun complement. And TV's Frank adds sidebar comments, giving his personal reactions to his "favorite" episodes! That alone is worth double the cost of the book, honestly. Come back guys, please! (Sorry, I know they won't, and it's for the best, but I'm still trying to cope.)
Rating: Summary: The Amazing Colossal Helpful Guide Review: I brought this book a lo-o-ong time ago, and my copy is completely worn out, as I've read through it so many times. It gives so much information on the Comedy Central episodes, it is uncanny -- including information you never knew you wanted to know (and information you may NOT want to know). As informative it is, it is also entertaining, telling everything in a humerous note. The only thing about this book that I wish is that they would put out a revised edition, covering the season 8 - 10 episodes.
Rating: Summary: A Must For MST3K Fans! Review: If you're a fan of Mystery Science Theater, this book has a ton of great information on the show. Info about every episode down (before the sci-fi channel years) with great articles about MST related stuff written by the cast. One of my favorite parts was the "most obscure refrenences" explained protion. Great as a refenence tool to keep track of which episodes you're missing too.
Rating: Summary: one of the best books ever Review: This book is soooooo funny I havent even seen the majority of the episodes and this book is still hysterical Buy it! "Deal with it pink boy!"
Rating: Summary: A collectors item for an amazing, hilarious show Review: After a 10 year run, Mystery Science Theater 3000's Satellite Of Love has come back to earth (and the inhabitants are living in Wisconsin), but their memories live on in this book. Compiled by all of the writers at Best Brains, Inc. this guide chronicles the conception and first ever episodes on a public access station all the way through the end of their run on Comedy Central (being moved to the Sci Fi Channel for two years after that). Every little inside joke, extra show, and insight into the people who bring the characters to life is here, and is now made even more bittersweet since the show has ended. A must buy for any MSTie out there.
