Summary: There was a guy named Joel (and later Mike)
Review: Oh how I will miss this show...it was simply too good for the masses, and always under fire for ratings, obscure riffs, etc.

One day, many years ago, I had a dangerous, stressful job and chronic insomnia...the only way to relax and get to sleep was the endless reruns of MST3K on Comedy Central. This show made me laugh when nothing else could...and I really just relaxed for Mystery Science Theater 3000....<twang>.

Some of my favorite riffs...

-Gypsy's sweater with the embrodered name "Joike".
-Buffalo shots (Hercules)
-Hoyt Axton "My, My, My, My, Mitchell...
-Tom Servo "My, My, My. GODDDD!!!!
-Crow: "Why would anyone want to do THAT with Mitchell, Joel?
-"Meat is murder, Frank!"

This show will eventually disappear completely...but as long as there is cheap merchandise with Mike and the 'bots silhouetted in the lower right corner, I'll reach for my credit card...

Summary: Great compendum to the show
Review: This is a beautifully done book, with insight from the writers on every show they ever did nationally. They are a few minor gripes tho, first they kind of skimped over the KTMA days, I would have liked to have seen more, they say that they don't want people to see these because they aren't very good(I have seen a few, and while not up to par with the CC and Sci-fi shows, they certainly are better than 99% of the stuff currently on tv), but they should have realized that only the hardcore fans(Of whom most have seen a KTMA ep) are buying the book, and more importantly, understand that they were a work in progress. The only other minor gripe I have is that some reviews are rather short, but I understand why, just like in every other television series, some shows are less memorable than others. The books other features more than make up for them however. The season intros are very interesting and give a perspective of what was happening in the studio during the times the episodes were being written and produced. Plus the compendum with the 50 most obscure references and some FAQs where very interesting. The most interesting thing to me however was the humorous explanation of the writing and shooting process they do for each show. Overall, if you are an mst3k fan, this is a must-have!

Summary: Good but, not great
Review: I was rather disapointed with this book. It is for referance I know, but when it was suposed to be funny in the forwards and prologe the jokes and funny stuff was [...] almost to where you think "Guess you had to be there". I have been a fan of MST3K for over 8 years and I can tell you that the show is much funnier and lets face it, the cast makes the jokes funny with action and voices.. but not text. I would infact recomend this if you need to find out what certain host segmants were in what episode, but for sitting down and just reading it [...] eh.

Summary: Terrific companion guide...
Review: ...through episode 624. Got mine through best brains complete with signatures of the luminaries themselves - eat your hearts out. Perfect to go with the slowly increasing number of DVD episodes of the show. - Charlie (MST3K #5535)

Summary: The episode guide for the best television show of all time!
Review: Some have questioned the point of owning this guide in the present. "What's the point?" they say. "It doesn't cover the last several seasons!"

So?

I'm a huge MST3K fan who didn't discover this great show until it had moved to Sci-Fi; thus, I have only seen the Comedy Central episodes that Rhino has released. That's where THE AMAZING COLOSSAL EPISODE GUIDE comes in. It fills me in on what I missed; it was thanks to Kevin Murphy's hilarious synopsis that the first Rhino episode I bought was RED ZONE CUBA, one of their greatest. It was thanks to the guide that I discovered the magic of Torgo.

In short, it answered practically every question I had about this odd yet funny show. And it left me begging for more (I wish Rhino would release SANTA CLAUS).

Not to mention that the book itself is funny. Many a time I will be reading through it and simply crack up.

Highest possible recommendation!

Summary: Essential Companion For Die Hard MSTies.
Review: This episode guide is a very informative, entertaining and supurbly thorough compaanion to the long-running cult favorite "Mystery Science Theater 3000".It keeps in the spirit of the show, retaining the laconic, surreal sence of humor, and inimitable knack for the obscure reference. You get a comprehensive show-by-show guide of the first six (out of ten) seasons with a description of the film they're scewering, plus a run-down of the bits in between the commercials, sidebars with descriptions of the monsters, mutants, and atrocious actors featured in each episode, plus a sly recap and reflection. Also, you get detailed background info on the stars and nimble minds behiond the show, and the robot puppeteers who bring(Ro-bot roll-call...!)Gypsy,Tom Servo, and Crow to life.If you're a geek about this show(like me),or just curious, this is the best book about MST3K out there.

Summary: Good book, but I wish it were longer!
Review: This guide is indeed handy if you're either new to MST or a faithful Mistie viewer. The book is broken into sections arranged by the seasons, including season 7 (the season that almost wasn't). You'll get good film summaries and even read interesting trivia about the stars of the show.

Most helpful is the backstory you'll get. Unless you've been following MST since it was on HA! network (now Comedy Central), you can find yourself confused about what happened to TV's Frank and Dr. Forrester, and you probably don't know how it ended up with Pearl, Brain Guy, and Bobo. This book will explain how they made the progression, really clearing up a lot if you missed too many shows.

It's a fun book, written in the same style as the shows themselves. There's some good bios on the players, too. My only complaint about the book, which is how it only got 4 stars, is that it's so short. I think it would've been really interesting if they'd included things like how the 'bots are made, how they chose some of the movies, and maybe even some coverage about the conventions they'd had.

A must-have for MST fans...

Summary: Great episode guide for a great show
Review: If you want to know information about an episode from MST3K from the Comedy Central era, I definitely recommend this book. Even if you're just a MST3K fan, I recommend this book. It's an excellent episode guide that explains information about the movie being riffed, a summary of the host segments, information on the KTMA era, plus tons of pictures, obscure wisecracks, and so much more! This is a MUST for every MST3K fan.

Summary: Great for MST veteran or newbie! Great read!
Review: The Amazing Colossal Episode Guide is what every MST3K fan needs. It gives synopses for every episode of the comedy central era, including pictures and reflections from the authors. Personally, the best part of this book is the summaries of the host segments. You may not get to see them, but it's great to imagine them. There's a great pic of Mike dressed up as Robin and Tom as Batman, all ready to read Crow's new Batman play, which he has neglected to tell them he forgot completely about. This book is full of laughs, and I highly recommend it!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: hilarious, chaotic, and colorful
Review: I loved it. Even better that some episodes.

For a daily dose of MST3K-style humor by these authors, see... especially like the serial novels and "about us".
