Summary: honestly my favorite book of all time
Review: i'm a serious reader who reads actual novels and classic literature, but not even Joyce's "Ulysses" can top the genius of The MST3K Amazing Colossal Episode Guide.

i've read this book DOZENS of times, and reference it nearly daily. i would give my first born child for a new edition that covers EVERYTHING (season 7 wasn't aired yet when the book was written). if you are looking for updated episode capsules, consult mst3kinfo.com for season seven and mst3k.com (the scifi site) for the sci-fi channel episodes.

i can't say enough about this book. it should be twelve times longer because i can't get enough mst3k. it really inspired me to collect every episode and turned my from a casual fan in to a ridiculous fanatic. and i mean that in a good way.

even if you've never seen the show, this book will still make you laugh. kevin's vonnegut anecdote, mike's miles o'keefe tribute, "your area and you," and the hilarious "bunular funular" anatomy diagram photo from the convention are all highlights that require no knowledge of the show to appreciate.

i truly think anybody with an interest in modern humor should own a copy of this book

Summary: How about an update?
Review: While this is a really fun book with a great bunch of interesting information, the show has been canned (sadly), so how about a new version? How about an update to cover the seasons the show was on the SF Channel? Still, it's a fun read and has a high re-readability!

Summary: It's Huge!
Review: OK, so this really only covers 6 seasons of the show, was written in 1995/96 and has nothing on the SciFi channel run. Still, for any fan of MST3K it is an indespensible guide to the show's history, and a hilarious tour of the best(worst) films ever lampooned on the show.

As said above, the book covers the first 6 seasons of the show, with brief section about the infamous KTMA Public Access years and a short rundown on the truncated season 7 on Comedy Central. Each movie is first given a very funny synopsis and then an analysis is made by one of the writers. Usually it's completely bizzare, especially if the analysis is by Mike Nelson, the show's head writer. The synopsis' also include great lines like "I want to hurt this movie" and "please, PLEASE don't reveal the super secret ending of Manos:The Hands of Fate". Each episode also has a breakdown of the "host segments", the skits that serve as bumpers for the movie, and every so often TV's Frank(writer Frank Conniff) pops up with his thoughts on a particular movie experience. The book also chronicles the various monsters that have appeared in the films over the years, from Godzilla to Torgo.

The history of the show is also included, from the birth of the idea to the conventio-con, expo-fest-a-rama held in 1995. It's all done tounge in cheek, but serves as a good guide to how the show went from public access obscurity to cult hit with it's own motion picture. If you ever loved this show, or simply want to decide who lives and who dies, you must own this book.

Summary: A must for the MSTie
Review: This book is essential to the Mystery Science Theater 3000 fan. The only flaw is that it was written when the show was still on the air. As a result, the last few seasons are not included. I HIGHLY encourage the writers to come up with a second episode guide, complete with all ten seasons, so that I, and the other MSTies out there, can rush to the bookstore and do our part to send the writers' children to college.

This book gives episode run-downs (of the rotten movie and of the better host segments). It also lists off some of the groups favorite jokes and explains many of the most obscure ones. My fingers are tired from all this typing. Just buy it already!

Summary: GREAT RESOURCE!
Review: The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Amazing Colossal Episode Guide is the perfect resource for any MST3K fan! The book breaks down episodes in the seasons that do not air on the Sci-fi channel. I absolutely love this book, not just because I'm a fan of the show, but also because it gives you some interesting information about actors in the movies and behind-the-scenes antics of the MST3K cast.

It's a real shame that this wonderful show was cancelled, but the fans of this show have plenty of tapes, DVD's, and memorabilia to keep us happy!

If you're a fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000, buy this book! You won't be disappointed!

Summary: You Misties know who you are.
Review: This book is essential for every MST3K fan on the face of the planet. It was written by the show's writers/performers and covers every painful movie shown in the first six seasons. Plus lots of supplimental material, such as essays on the origin of the show, their theatrical movie, favorite quotes and actors, plus a list of the most disgusting things they've seen in the movies.

Every Mistie needs a copy of this book, and even though it only covers the first six years, season seven was done on the Satellite News web site and eight through ten were on the Sci-Fi Channel's site. So add printouts of those web pages to this book and you have a complete guide to MST3K's decade on-the-air! Highly recomended.

Summary: As Seen On TV!
Review: Well at least it was back when Mystery Science Theater 3000 was in its sixth season.

This is THE book for any fan of MST3K whether you became a fan of the show during its early days at the local station in Minneapolis, or just found it on the Sci-Fi channel during the final reruns. The book offers a peek into all of the 120 episodes that can only be seen on a fan's tape. Each episode area has descriptions of the actual movie, all of the segments, and one of the writers reflects on the episode. In fact the style of how each episode is described in the book was so much loved by the fans that the cast continued to describe the 8th, 9th, and last season at Scifi.com. It also chronicles the conception and birth of a revolutionary comedy.

Running through the book are poems, reflection, and suggestions on how to discuss "Your Area" which will leave your sides in pain. In fact the introductions of the book are enough to rip out a few stitches so be careful.

Even if you do not really care about all of the old episodes that you may never seen, the reflection and other writing in this book are enough of a reason to buy this book. Trust me.

Summary: Hilarious summaries of hilarious shows.
Review: First off, I would like to say that MST3K was the most brilliant, hilarious and creative show ever produced. They were snubbed by TV Guide in their top 50 shows of all time article.
Now on to the book:
This book has summaries and memories of all the episodes form seasons 1 though 6, the hayday of the show. The summaries of the films themselves rival the actual show for laughter value. Whether the synopsis was written by Mike (who I think is one of the funniest writers on the planet), Trace, Mary Jo, Kevin or Paul, they will make you heave with gutteral belly laughs. The memories of each episode are also very funny, and beyond that, pretty informative.
The book also features a ton of other things, such as the story behind the creation of the series, answers to the top 50 questions asked, the making of the MST3K movie and much, much more.
The only complaint I have about this book is that it only goes up to season 6. Although I think the show never regained the edge and hilarity of the the Comdey Central era shows (specifically seasons 4-7), I would still love to have a companion volume that takes care of seasons 7-10 and the movie.

I highly recommend this book for all MSTies out there.

Summary: Entertaining background material
Review: ACEG marks the inception of the show through the end of season six. All of the episodes are given almost a page of explanation each (including excerpts from the skits). There is a lot of history, explanation and background for the characters; though I confess, Mike's bio never lets up from the 'joke' and other essays leave me wondering what is fact and what is not.

(Did Trace really pay random people on the street large sums of money to stab themselves in the leg with plastic forks? We may never know... ;)

I do wish the 'air date' were included for all of the shows. (Dates are included for the pilot season, but none of the others). Another frustration is that the show continued for 4 more seasons after this book was written. Information on the subsequent shows can be found on the fan sites, but a complete tome would be welcome... (or at least an addendum)

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A must have for a MST3K fan!
Review: If you like MST3K at all, you must get this book. I only have 2 complaints about the book. It needs to be updated, and it just should have been longer. Other than that, this book rocks.
