Rating: Summary: Dragonlance fans... beware! Review: If you're a Dragonlance fan - be very careful while you consider purchasing this book! Make sure you have plenty of free time in which to read because this book absolutely REFUSES to be put down! I read many of the trilogies over 10 years ago and probably haven't read a DL book since until this one and I must say, it's every bit as good as any of the others! I would even rank this one up with the Chronicles books, which were my favorite! If you like DL - buy this. Don't wait - buy it... So what are you waiting for??
Rating: Summary: The Forgeing of Raistlin's Passion Review: I absolutely love Raistlin Majere. I have never come across a more compelling character. I read this book in one day, for I could not close it without yearning to learn more about the young mage. I greatly anticipate the next books in the trilogy. Long live the Master of Past and Present!!
Rating: Summary: My Personal Favorite of the Dragonlance Novels Review: I guess it is _conceivable_ that someone could read and enjoy the dragonlance saga without being very interested in Raistlin, but this is almost certainly an exceptional case.If you have never read a Dragonlance book, you should _NOT_ start with this one. Doing so will rob you twice, as you won't appreciate this book as much until you have read the others (by "others" I mean the "Chronicles" and the "Legends"), and you will also not have the pleasant feeling of mystery regarding Raistlin as you would otherwise have while reading the others. That aside, if you have read the saga, or at the _VERY_ least the "Legends" trilogy, then you should absolutely read _The Souldorge_, as it gives a more comprehensive (and in some ways correcting) version of Raistlin's younger days. Furthermore, Weis writes MUCH better than Tracy Hickman, and inasmuch as this book is fully her work (while the saga is only half her's) the writing is much more compelling. If you read the saga but was unhappy that the writing and characters were too simplistic and too moronic, take heart. I wish Margaret had written the entirety of the saga, but alas it was not to be.
Rating: Summary: The most interesting character of the Dragonlance books Review: I loved this book. Raistlin is by far my favorite character from the Dragonlance books. This book highlights the life of magic that Raistlin builds from a young boy to the most powerful mage on Krin. I always wanted to know what happened in the High tower of sorcery for his test, and this book accounted one view of the trials. Fascinating book, hated to have it end.
Rating: Summary: The Soulforge Review: I have been a fan of the Dragonlance series for many years and I have found this book to be one of their best! Raistlin is always a very intriguing character and here is a more complete description of why. A must for any Dragonlance collector!
Rating: Summary: Destined to be a Dragonlance classic! Review: WOW. Being a Dragonlance veteran (having read at least 20 books in the Dragonlance series), I was utterly pleased with my experience with the Soulforge. Margaret Weis takes us back in time, to when Raistlin was a budding mage, who from the early age of 6 knew in his heart that magic would rule his life. Raistlin was so real that you could almost reach into the book and touch him, as you experienced the love, hate, and burning desire he had for power and magic. But that's not all - we also learn about his childhood experiences with Caramon, and their love for each other that you just never knew in the Chronicles. The Soulforge ends where Raistlin completes his test at the Tower of Waywreth, and although the story of the test is a bit contratictory/condensed from what we read from other books, it gives us another great legend for us to treasure always in our memories. Margaret Weis does it again, mesmerizing our hearts and minds with these characters that we could swear are real. And after reading the Soulforge, you will see Raistlin with a newfound respect and love, despite of what he becomes in the years that follow. Three cheers for The Soulforge!
Rating: Summary: Great! A wonderful book for Raistlin lovers! Review: I thought this book was great not only am I a Raistlin lover, but it was excellently done. Margaret Weis did a wonderful job on it, the storyline was good...the only problem was, I thought that the Test was a little short and not very descriptive. But other than that, I thought it was great! A must-read for Dragonlance (and Raistlin) fans everywhere!
Rating: Summary: Passes the test, barely Review: Of all the characters from the original Dragonlance trilogy, I have always been most fascinated by Raistlin. That is why I was so excited to pick up this book that would delve into his formative years. Starting when he is 6 years old, the book definitely explores what forces (parents deaths, incompetent instructor, etc.) shaped the future ArchMage. What disappointed me the most about the book was the TEST. This traumatic event that so deeply affected and shaped the rest of his life promised to be engrossing and dramatic. It was anything but. The Conclave alluded to the 3 parts of the test, yet he only had 2. No explanation why. The confrontation with Fistandantalus was a true letdown, especially Raistlin's inexplicably simple ability to "break their agreement." While reading the Chronicles and Legends trilogies, Caramon constantly refers to the tests as the abomination that wrecked his brother. I wanted to read Soulforge and experience what Caramon went through. Instead I experienced a letdown.
Rating: Summary: A mage's soul, shaped in the crucible of magic Review: The Soulforge is by far one of the best novels in the Dragonlance saga, and one of the best novels Margaret Weis has ever written. Starting at age 6, the Soulforge chronciles Raistlin Majere's rough childhood, from the elementary magic school thru the time he first took The Test of High Sorcery. This is an absolute MUST read for any true fan of the magic of Krynn or Raistlin Majere.
Rating: Summary: getting to know the good and the bad Review: this book was great. you knew something was going to happen to the young mage but not knowing whether it was good or bad. excellent twists in the story. cant wait to read the next book.
