Summary: Finally, Raistlin's Test
Review: I never knew that such a book could take over my world in a short amount of time. I mean, it started a little slow, but the reader will get into this book by the time the 2nd part is read. Must read if you have read the Chronicles and the Legends Series. Both will help you to understand little Raistlin better. Awesome book!!

Summary: For Raistlin fans, this is THE book
Review: Soulforge is the perfect book for someone a)Who (Like me) thinks Raistlin is the only good character in the entire Dragonlance series.b)Who is tired of the regular heroic mission type Dragonlances.c)Who prefers sorcery to sword everytime. It takes you to the earliest possible stages of Raistlins youth (No, you dont get to see him as an embryo), from the day where he is introduced to the first mage in his life. From there you go through his childhood, early schooling in the arts of the mage, and, surprisingly, his first crush. Then comes the seemingly most closely guarded secret in the Dragonlance books (At least I didn`t find it anywhere): The Test in the Tower of Wayreth. It leaves you there to be continued in the next book, Brothers in Arms, which is equally good. By the end of the series you should know Raistlin as well as he does, if not better.

Summary: Pre-Chronicles Raist in a nut shell
Review: For anyone who read the Chronicles and wondered why Raistlin was the way he was, this is the book for you. This is like the kenders guide to raistlin because if you want to know, its in there! From age six up to after his test in the Tower at Wayreth! It is a MUST for any Raist fan! Its only the fourth DL book that I've read, but I've got that gut feeling it will be hard to match!

Summary: The absolute best Dragonlance book
Review: The Soulforge was a long awaited book for me. I always wondered

what made Raistlin the way he was. I also understand from this

book why he views his brother the way he does. It is an

enlightning tale and one that I will read over and over again. If

you are a Raistlin fan you can not miss this book. I always new

Raistlin was really a sweet, charming boy..well, maybe a little evil also.

Summary: A Good Look into the Heart of a Mage
Review: I've been reading DragonLance novels for some time, and Weis and Hickman's original trilogies _Chronicles_ and _Legends_ are some of the best fantasy I have read. _The Soulforge_ is an excellent book to read if you want to know more about Raistlin, the later-Black robed mage, and his family. I laughed so many times reading this story, and really loved it! I came to understand how Raistlin started down the path that led him to yearn for ultimate power. This is a very eye-opening novel for any DragonLance fan. I found the portrayal of all the characters to be well-done and very believable. If you haven't read this book, make sure you do. You won't regret having spent the money.

Summary: Long waited history
Review: I have been following the books of Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman since the mid-80's. In this book they do it again with superb storytelling. The story is lively and they bring to life the characters and storyline. If you loved the original Dragonlance stories, you'll love this book.

Summary: A Further Understanding to Raistlin Majere
Review: Starting with the Dragonlance Chronicles, I became enthralled with Raistlin. He was only a young mage and yet he was as clever as a fox and had the ability to do things other people couldn't do at his age. I became fascinated with him and it made me want to know what was going on in that brain of his. Luckily, I found Soulforge in the local bookstore. After reading it, it gave me new insight on Raistlin but my fascination stayed there. It gives you sense of awe when you read on. You'll learn why he's like that through reading this book. You gain respect for him, even if he's sometimes heartless.

Summary: Blew me away...
Review: This is a stunning book, not just for fans of Raistlin like myself, but because it is probably the best-written book I've read in the Dragonlance series. Weis is an excellent writer, and her skill as a storyteller is well displayed here. (Some spoilers follow).

We get to see here the things that made Raistlin who he was: his envy of his brother's good looks and popularity, his possessive devotion to magic, and the slow unravelling of his ideals and attempts to care more about others than he does about himself.

I found a lot of amusement in Weis' descriptions of the twins' day to day lives, such as Raistlin griping about his brother's breaking their only cream pitcher or Caramon's lack of skill in making scrambled eggs. Much of the book is composed of things like this, and it adds a more "human" element to characters who later become the Heroes of the Lance. The younger characters (the twins, Sturm, Kitiara) are well portrayed as adolescents, and the Tanis and Flint we know from _Chronicles_ are easy to spot here. One has a lot of sympathy for Raistlin's emotional state as he goes through his early life experiences, such as his confused feelings regarding his parents, the trauma of their deaths, the dashing of his hopes concerning a certain girl, and his longing to be liked and admired which contrasts, even at an early age, with his desire to show his enemies what he's made of.

Weis' love and understanding of Raistlin's character is wholly evident throughout the book, and I liked the last little touch in the afterword about the novel having been Raistlin's own written account of his early life, which is a tidy explanation for the inconsistencies between it and earlier accounts. It also casts some of the things in the book in a different light. All in all, an excellent book.

Summary: Raistlin Majere - A great character, a great book.
Review: Raistlin has been my most favorite character in the Dragonlance series, ever since I picked up Dragons of Autumn Twilight way back when they had the original covers on the books. I enjoyed that trilogy, as well as the Legends trilogy, and was VERY glad that there was a book devoted to the upbringing of Raistlin. If you also enjoy Raistlin and want to see more of him, this book reveals a lot about how he became the person he was in the other books. Margaret Weis, I applaud you.

Summary: Excellently written, and detailed to the last drop
Review: I must tell you, the only reason I got this book was because I liked Raistlins character, and figured this would quench my thirst for more stories of Raistlin. I wasn't aware of just how good the book was going to be, and just how detailed the Author was with *ALL* her characters. Raistlin may take the spotlight, and be the main character, but the attitudes, dialog, and conflict was also found in good detail for Kitiara, Flint, Tas, and many of the rest of the crew.

The story is very detailed, right down to the number of scrolls in the scroll case, the smell of the candles, the light of the glowing orbs, etc. It does not always talk about Raistlins most shining moments, but gives you an idea how the troubled young man grew up and what torments, and situations he was put up against. If you were picked on as a kid, this book will bring back those memories of just how embarrasing it could be.

If you did not pity the young man in the chronicals, you will pity him now. And see him grow to power! Outstanding!
