Summary: Life of a outcast
Review: This book is the biography of the first years of the mage Raistlin's life. If you have read other dragonlance books containing this mysterious character you will quickly discover some of the reasons he is who he is.

This story shows how what happened in his youth that set him on his course through the rest of his life. It shows what events forged him and made him who he ended up being. The story is engaging and well written. And I think you should read it! ok, bye-bye.

Summary: Great book, but one important thing was missing!
Review: ... I really enjoyed this book. Margaret Weis is a brilliant writer. The story is fantastic, the character interaction is priceless, and the amount of great scenes is amazing and all crammed in this book. I definately recommend this book. Tas always makes me laugh. Kitiara always the mercenary. Raistlin is the most interesting character in the Dragonlance books and this whole book is mainly about him! The problems I have with this book are this which prevented me from giving it five stars. It seems as if Margaret Weis has some hobby talking about bodily functions. There are numerous pages with kinda disturbing words that I don't think belong in fantasy. Other words could have easily been used, but in keeping tradition with FOX TV and the latest pushing of the edge in Hollywood and TV she I guess wanted not to be left out. A no-no in my views. Also the HUGE PROBLEM I had is the fact that this book was to be about Raistlin's test! There are only 20 pages about the test. Huh? Kinda boring, too. Still a good book though!

Summary: the story of Raistlin
Review: Her you! You ever hear of Dragon Lance books? Do you like magic, mages, and stories of adventure, and heroes who fight for glory and freedom? Then the book that you will want to read is The Soulforge written by Margaret Weis. It's the beginning of the life of one mage, Raistlin Majere.

The book tells the story of a dagger tongued sarcastic boy who at the age of six comes to find magic as the rescuer he needs from the torment and tragedies he faces during the youthful years of his life. The other wizards in the Tower of High Sorcery have been watching Raistlin throughout the years he has been at a school that teaches young mages like him, the art of magic. They come to the decision that he is ready to take the test, a test that could prove fatal to his life if he fails. Raistlin is awfully weak in physical form to take such a test. But maybe his skill in magic will be enough to pull him through alive. If he makes it out alive everything will change for him, and nothing will ever be the same.

It's an exciting and thrilling book. Page after page is full of interesting and tense situations. Raistlin's mysterious character comes out in this book that tells his tragic and thrilling past as a little boy, to a teenager, and a young adult. I loved this book. I never knew that much about the sharp tongued, sly, mystifying, and puzzling mage. Now I understand why he's so harsh and sarcastic to everyone.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy. If you like to have a little comedy mixed in with your adventures, you get it with this story. There are some pretty hilarious parts in this book amongst all the thrilling adventures that goes on in Raistlin's life.

So what do you think will happen to Raistlin? Will he survive the most feared test to all mages, in the Tower of High Sorcery? Not many do.

Summary: tie ins
Review: this was one of the best books i hav eread to date. It does a great job of tying up loose ends about the twins. this book just made me like the twins even more. besides tass, the twins are my favorite dl charecters. I don't recommend reading this on before the chronicles, though. If you are just starting out in the DL would, then you should start with the chronicles seiries. That is the seiries that got my fire going, and i don't see it going out any time soon.Pick up this book. it is a great read.

Summary: The Weak Majere
Review: This book was the best one ive read so far. Ever since i was hooked on the book by my cousin i just couldnt put it down. Now like most i never read the book in order and didnt quite understand the relationship between the majere brothers. Raistlin always seemed to hate and despise caramon.

That is why i found this book so great, cause i finally got to learn what made Raistlin the man he was and how he came to achieve all the things he did.

Summary: A breathtaking dive into the soul of a troubled genius...
Review: Raistlin Majere is one of the most complex character ever depicted in a fantasy novel.
He's cynical and sarcastic, full of ambition, got thirst for power and he's a genius. But he is not without bad sides... He's cold, calculating and independant.
Now, I'm talking about Raistlin as he is in the "Chronicles" and "Legends" Trilogies.

But he wasn't always like that. He wasn't always so dark and malicious. Some events and painful experiences made in turn that way, made him choose darkness instead of light.
Learn why he chose to use his powers for evil plots instead of using them to help people, as he has great powers indeed.

You will learn to like him despite his dark sides as you grow to understand him. You will understand the bizarre bond between him and his antipode twin brother. They are so alike, yet so different.
You will learn how he was first introduced to magic. You'll even recognize some of your own traits in him : Jealousy - Ambition - Determination - Anger, pure anger. But also Compassion - Caring and even Love and Talent.

It's because he's so human, yet not that Raistlin is so intriguing, and fascinating.
You'll probably grow to love him as I did, and you'll be begging for more books on him as I did. He deserves to have a this complete book dedicated to him. Too bad there isn't more to it, but I'm being picky now...
Have a great read.

Summary: Raistlin, one cold stone? or what?
Review: Raistlin, is he good, or is he bad? That is the question. When he is portrayed in the Soulforge, he is sort of in between. But as you see him develope as a charecter in all of the books(The Twins saga), you see his ultimate dark side mainly. You have to see past that. His dark, unfeeling personalility owes a lot of its makeup to his family: his disturbed mother, the ruthless Kitiara, and Caramon, his slow, handsome twin, who depends on him to "Make it better".

In the end, his true colors show, though you'll have to read the Soulforge and the three twins books toreally understand his complicated innerself.

Summary: A revealing look at Krynns most powerful magi!
Review: This was the start of a great series giving you in good detail the life and times of the brothers Majere. You learn how, from humble childhood Raistlin turned out to be how he was, and how that childhood made him what he was later in his life. A good start to a good series I say. Precedes the War of the Lance, and Meetings Sextet. Weis did an outstanding job of it!

Summary: The Soulforge-Great Story
Review: I just started reading the Dragonlance novels earlier this month and I've already finished Chronicles and Legends. Neadless to say I've liked the books thus far and Soulforge is no exception. It is a great story of how Raistlin came to be who he is. How he was powerful and ambitious as a kid. And how his jealousy of his brother's looks, popularity, and strength led to his callous nature. And also gives an interesting view into the way Raistlin and Caramon met the rest of the Heroes of the Lance. Also the reader gets to experience the oath made by the companions and the horrid Test at the Tower of High Sorcery at Wayreth. All in all the book details the different events which led to Raistlin's and his Ultimate goal and ambition. Very well written and Weis' compassion for her characters really comes out in the writing. I suggest reading this after Chronicles and Legends though because some of the events in this book could spoil the suprises of those series.

Summary: One of the best Dragonlance novels
Review: Any fan of Dragonlance has got to admit; there are some excellent DL books and some that are really not worth reading. Soulforge fits easily into the first category.

I started reading Dragonlance a while ago. I was really impressed by "Summer Flame" and the Chronicles--in fact, Dragonlance was my favorite series for a fair amount of time--but got disappointed with some of the other DL series. I read "Soulforge" a couple of years ago and liked it. Now, I've just finished rereading it, and it restored my faith in the books completely (at least in the ones by Weis, and/or Hickman).

When I first read DL, I thought sure, Raistlin's a great mage, and he does cool stuff, but he's so cynical and everything. Now that I read over the texts with Raistlin again, I realize how complex this man really is, and that there is a great reason for his cynicism. Soulforge shows many sides that I would not have thought to exist: the reader sees him as the scornful, cynical mage as in most of the other books, but the reader also sees a gentler side to Raistlin, even a loving side to him.

This book tells about the events that forged Raistlin's soul, each hardshp simply one more blow of the hammer that made him the man he is.
