Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: AD&D Players Guide Review: A very good book for all AD&D players, whether coming from D&D or a new role-player, this book is excellent to have for all campaigns. It is also parralel to the DM Guide, so if you're a DM, theres a quick reference for both books in the back.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Exellent for all DMs and players(Ya The DM Can Use This Too) Review: This book describes all of the basic classes and races. It is a exellent sorce of info for the more experienced players and DM's alike. I rated it 5 stars because it has helped me(a novice but somewhat experienced player and dm) create and play many campaigns successfully.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: If you're a DM you need this Review: The truth is that if you're going to DM you really need this book(and the Monstrous Manual). The book does a fairly good job of explaining a lot of rules for combat situatins, and has a short listing of interesting magic items. You'll need it. Though they could have added a few extra pages to explain some things more clearly. But, then why would you need to buy more books? It's good for what it is, a book that tells you all the stuff that the Player's Handbook could have explained.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Fun to play with others! Review: This book is awsome. All you people that rate it 1 or 2 stars you just wasted all your money. But if your rated 4 stars or up you'll love this book because you can be all sorts of races and classes. Have fun!
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Wait for 3rd edition PHB Review: Wait for 3rd edition PHB it is scheduled for release in August. I have been playing for 12 years and I liked the 2nd ed rules but 3rd ed is supposed to be quite interesting and all the new adventures will begin to be produced using these rules soon.
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: This is not worth your money Review: I've been playing RPGs for over 6 years, so i consider myself somewhere between beginner and senior. I've have played many roleplaying games, and i've played a lot of AD&D. But this is not a game for anyone. There are to many rules, most of wich are not logical. The system is archaic. The settings are dull, and devoid of imagination.Go buy Warhammer Fantasy RPG instead...
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: An essential for any DM Review: Though others may find this book too simple or whatever, the truth is the DM's Guide gives Dungeon Masters a set of rules which he can manipulate into what he feels he likes the best. I have recently started DMing and have found this book to be invaluable in setting the standards for my world. I haven't been playing D&D very long, and having the eyes of a newcomer I can tell all out there if you wish to start DMing then you must have this book!
Rating: ![1 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-1-0.gif) Summary: Stick with the Players Handbook Review: The DMs guide has always been and remains the weakest of all the books, any halfway decent DM will have a wide range of house rules that cover all the things that the DMs guide brings up. If you were expecting an improvement on the first Edition then all you will get for your money is a nice new cover and lots of nice new pictures, though I must admit that the layout of this edition is better than the first. The only reason to buy this might be for the treasure tables...even there they are cut back from the 1st edition! To be honest you don't even need the DMs guide to play AD&D, a players hand book a DMs shield (which has all the tables you'll need anyway) and a good DM will serve you better than this book any day of the week. Skip this book until you really have money to spare or really are very very new to RPGs.
Rating: ![3 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-3-0.gif) Summary: Go with an earlier edition Review: This system is living down its last years - every rule is available in five different versions and every class of characters has a miriad sub-classes. The game system has gotten so out-of-focus that it's a wonder it still holds together. As the earliest pencil and paper RPG, this thing still rules the market, but don't ever buy more than the core books , a couple of accessories, and maybe some adventures, or you will see just how much WoTC wants your money. Pros: -is a very expansive game system; -still allows for player imagination and creativity; -is pretty damn original, at least in the better examples; -most of the accessories are easily adaptable to other games; Cons: -is top-heavy; -most adventures are horrid and uninteresting; -there are far too many materials, even if you don't buy them all; -the rules frequently conflict;
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: ADND Rocks! Review: I have read the old 2nd edition books and have found this one to be in a much nicer format. Despite the fact that the spells aren't that organized, the rest of the advantages greatly outweigh the disadvantages. If you are a beginner you should definitly purchase this book.
