Summary: Excellent for Star Trek buffs
Review: My 12 year old son has gotten the Trek Bug and this book has made him interested in reading. He hates to read. This book has peaked his interest and the information is just enough on each item for him to recognize characters, items, etc. while watching the shows.

Summary: A Must Have for the Trek fan
Review: What can I say? This book details every aspect of the Trek universe from the major to minor characters and events within the fictional universe created by Roddenberry. I have found this book to be an invaluable source of information while researching for several projects dealing with Star Trek. Even the casual viewer can be dragged into the scope of the book, with the detailed histories and entries contained within. I highly recommend this book, and encourage you to purchase it.

Summary: The best in Star Trek
Review: This book is undoubtly the most important work to summarize the Star Trek Universe. It is a must for all Trek fans, no matter the series: Classic, Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager or even the new Enterprize (which by the way, I do not have access here in my country).

Summary: The Star Trek Encycopedia
Review: This book tells you almost everything you'd want to know about Star Trek.It includes list of lifefors, planets, ships, and much more. Also, there are color profiles of several starship, Federation or not. Another thing I love is that it haschronolgies of the production of Star Trek and of the Star Trek saga. This is a great book for reading fun. By the way, my name is Anders Aughey.

Summary: Informative
Review: A very informative book on the Star Trek universe. However, I did spot one major error, regarding a character called Steth in the ST VOY episode, "Vis-A-Vis".

Summary: An "Encyclopedia Galactica" for the "Trek" universe
Review: "The Star Trek Encyclopedia: A Reference Guide to the Future," co-authored by Michael Okuda and Denise Okuda, is an impressive reference work. The core of the book consists of alphabetically arranged entries on the various persons, places, and things that make up the Star Trek universe: heroes, villains, planets, starships, weapons, organizations, alien words, foods, rituals, alien species, games, space stations, animals, holographic characters, etc. There are also entries on "real" literary and historical figures that have played roles in various Trek adventures. All of the feature films and TV series up to the time of the book's publication are referenced.

The body of entries is accompanied by a wealth of full-color photos and other illustrations, making this book a real visual treat. There are a number of special spreads focusing on specific topics: starship dedication plaques, uniform insignia, alien scripts, etc.

There are a number of informative appendices: starship charts, a "real world" timeline of "Star Trek" production, cast credits, etc. A superb gift for the serious "Star Trek" fan.

Summary: The Ultimate Must-Have
Review: This is probably the most wide-spread book about Star Trek, and I agree that it's the most important one too. It is almost superfluous to review such a common book. The Encyclopedia *is* Star Trek, it shows everything the show is about on the fictional level.

Mike Okuda, Paramount's "canon-keeper" was very diligent and very careful in compiling all the facts from 35 years of Star Trek on screen in one book. Considering this enormous work and the fact that the Okudas have other things to do than writing we may easily forgive occasional errors like mislabeled images or misread registries of starships. Moreover, the Encyclopedia is the one and only reference book that strictly adheres to the facts established on screen, and in this respect it is more comprehensive and more detailed than every such attempt by fans. This is why I always defend it against fans who take the (necessary) nitpicking too far and claim they would do everything better. I have no objections when Okuda supplements the 99% of hard canon evidence with 1% of good speculation.

What I like about the Encyclopedia is that, besides the fictional content, it has a good deal of background information too. After all, it is always nice to learn how something was created or if a name is a "tip of the hat" to someone or something in the real world. I'm not quite content with the images many of which should be much larger (which is a matter of the costs, of course). There are also many redundant illustrations, such as I would rather like one big image of the Excelsior class than a small one for each single ship of the class.

Anyway, the Encyclopedia is a must-have for any fan who doesn't like to deperately search for every bit of information in the internet. As far as I can tell, much of the content of the Encyclopedia is in no form available in the web.

Summary: Great source of general STAR TREK knowledge
Review: The Star Trek Encyclopedia is a very good quick-reference A to Z guide for those times when you need general knowledge of the various shows & movies, characters, equipment, vessels, aliens, and more. Not only will it help the average geekin' Trek fan-boy bone up on his knowledge, it's also a wonderful resource to help put an end to most of those knock-down, drag-out Trekkie arguments that often pop up in the middle of the big convention! Well, maybe not that Khan/Chekov debacle in 'Star Trek II', but you can't have everything!

Although it's fairly pricey, the book is printed on semi-slick paper, and includes full-color photos & illustrations. Because of these two things, and other stuff that makes this trade-size tome a higher-quality Star Trek book than usual, I think it's more than worth the asking price!

Summary: Everything you want to know about Trek!
Review: When they say "Encyclopedia" - they mean it! Every character - even the vast majority of the "red shirts"! Every episode - even the Animated Trek! Every movie - just recently revised to include info from "Insurrection"! This book should hold the "Guiness Book of World Records" record for the greatest amount of Star Trek information available on the planet! Highly recommended for Trek fans - this book will settle almost any "who", "what", "when", "where", "why", and "how" question that you have. Even includes many definitions of "Treknobabble".
