Rating: Summary: Jarlaxle is just plain awesome!!! Review: Jarlaxle is now probably my favorite character in all the books. I know he could beat Drizzt or Entreri anyday anytime any place. Give us more Jarlaxle Salvatore!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Artemis why coulnt you just have killed Wulfgar Review: This book showed off Entreri soo much thats why it was one of my favorites. But i really wish Wulfgar would just be gone he isnt the "best" character in this series of books.
Rating: Summary: OH OH, RA SALVATORE - A REALLY BAD JOB Review: I loved the previous dark-elf books; but since "passage to down" they just get boring. You always hear the same things, you are forced to read the 1231841th fight to death between Drizzt and Entreri. After reading this book,i realized that the main characters have become immortal. I was glad about Wulfgars come-back from abyss, but now i really think it was the wrong decision. There is no tension to read thrugh the chapters, because you know that drizzt will always do the right things and he will never fail. Really sad.The reasons why i give 2 stars? Some passages are interesting to read and I really enjoyed salvatores previous books. Lets hope he will do a better job next time
Rating: Summary: Bad boy, whatcha gonna do when Drizzt comes for you? :) Review: Last night, I saw this book & immediately got it. And man, oh man, am I glad I did! Salvatore's back with a vengeance & this rocks! I could not put this book down, even though it means I've gotta write two papers for class tomorrow. Well worth it. I like what was done with Wulfgar, even though I don't particularly care for the character, it was logical. Six years in the Abyss would mess up anybody! I think I might have to get Spine of the World when it comes out in paperback (I'm a poor college student too). Great fights, good character development, and ANOTHER DRIZZT NOVEL! Oh yeah! And even the rematch between Drizzt & Artemis was cool: I coul've used a map of that room that Jarlaxle created, tho... I'm sure my neighbors must think I'm nuts, yelling about events in a book at 3am, but oh well. Excellent work. One thing: settle this stuff with poor Catti-Brie, Drizzt, and Wulfgar. If there was ever a bizarre love triangle, this is it. (I'm rooting, as always, for the drow.) And that last battle: whoa, mama! Man, I was on the edge of my seat on that one! And I had a sinking feeling how it was gonna turn out at the end there. Should I curse Jarlaxle for arranging it in the first place, or bless him for stepping in when it was needed? And what kind of havoc, praytell, will the leader of Bregan D'aerthe unleash on Menzoberranzan now that he has Crenshinibon, eh? More time could have been spent on that crusty dwarf Bruenor, however. And just enough time was spent on Regis. Kill Artemis! Let Jarlaxle take over Calimport! Hook up Drizzt and Catti-Brie! Give us more Bruenor Battlehammer! And more stuff on Menzoberranzan!
Rating: Summary: Most Realistic Yet!! Review: I must say. I was getting kind of tired of the almost immortality that these characters seem to have. Drizzt's decision to allow Jarlaxle go with the shard almost without a second thought was a very good move I think. No body is perfect! I like to read books where the characters have moral faults like the rest of us. Don't get me wrong though!! Drizzt and the rest are the best. I had a hell of a time trying to put any of RAS's books down. I've just started to drift from the dark elf series to the Demon series and for one I haven't found a thing to complain about. I have read some of Spine and I find it a nice release from the rest. I enjoy books with depth and I feel that there should be fillers during a series. Every great writer does that. Thumbs up totally to RAS and I hope he continues his masterpieces. A personal note to Robert. Don't take any of the critiques about Spine personally. It's obvious that they don't know good writing or the strategy it takes to write a damn good series.
Rating: Summary: It was Okay Review: I thought it was a decent book, but definitley not one of Salvatore's best works. Some of the actions taken by the characters did not seem to fall in line with the personalities that Salvatore had developed for them throughout the series, but you still need to read it if you plan to keep following the storyline just so you will not get behind.
Rating: Summary: A magnificent work with plenty of surprises Review: Salvatore has done it again with another eye opening book. I promise that I was not able to put the book down until my eyes were about to fall out of their sockets, and those little green men in your head kept reminding me that sleep was a good thing. Needless to say, I ignored those men. The book is complete with sad occasions, joyous occasions, weird occasions, and some rather "interesting" occasions as well. Old characters return again, and, well if took the time to look at the durned cover, you'd see ol' Artemis is back in the groove, killing people and all, seeing that's what assasins do mostly. I shall say no more of the assasin since he is very entertaining (he is to me at least in my own perverted way...).Why not 5 stars then? My main argument lies towards the end of the book. I felt as if it was rushed, as if Salvatore had a page limit and realized 10 pages before the limit that he had to finish the story. I felt Salvatore could have easily gone on for another 50 or more pages to completely wrap up some loose ends. In any case, those are his choices and perhaps he prefers to keep those loose ends open for the 12th book in the Chronicles of "Drizzt's Forgotten Realms" as I have come to call it. In end, of course, if you are a Salvatore or Drizzt fan in any way, this is a great buy that won't let ya down.
Rating: Summary: A little jumpy but enjoyable Review: It's been a little while since I read TSB, but there are a few things I remember. The biggest problem that sticks out in my mind, is I remember it reading somewhat erratic. I've never been a fan of switching locales and central characters, so this might have just been me. I like what has happened with Wulfgar. I'm sure I'm in the majority of the readers in saying that I like the Drizzt character, but I also really like what happened with the big barbarian. 6 years of torture is going to destroy most personalities, and having Wulfgar go off on his own seems like the best option for him. And with the arrival of Spine of the World, we get an idea of how Wulfgar's struggles are going. I was briefly upset about the big, climactic battle. Another Drizzt vs. Entreri fight. We've seen a lot of those now. But this one had a different flavour than the others. The end, the true end of this fight was not a matter of who owned what magic, or what poison, or who planned the fight. It came down to a simple battle of skill, which was what Jarlaxle had intended to do with the arena. Drizzt beat Entreri in the swordplay. I don't think that the assassin will stay in the dark about Drizzt's survival, but I don't think he's going to hunt down Drizzt for another scuffle. The point has been proven, and Artemis has to live with knowing that Drizzt was the better swordsman. Of course, Artemis walked out... well was TK'd out of the room still conscious because he had the more powerful allies. So he won the fight, just not the swordplay. Being a poor college student, I have to wait for Spine to come out in paperback before I buy it, but I'm hoping to get some time to read a borrowed copy soon. :) Oh yes, and I would really like to see SOME kind of resolution for Catti-Brie. In Passage to Dawn she confessed to Danica some interest in our drow hero. Yes with the arrival of Wulfgar she had to rethink things, but it'd still be nice to see something happen there. -Astanos
Rating: Summary: Like a good action movie... Review: I've been a huge fan of Salvatore's Drizzt' books since 'The Crystal Shard' came out years ago. His characters are some of the most interesting inf the fantasy genre, and his action writing is as good as any I've read. This book is like watching a good fantasy action/adventure movie. Salvatore's books must be taken for what they are meant to be. They are not supposed to be great literary works with profound messages. They are meant to be entertaining and exciting. I believe people who give his books bad reviews are not evaluating them with this in mind. Anyway, this book is a good example of his work. Not his best work perhaps, but still a great read if you like high adventure and fantasy.
Rating: Summary: An excellent tale of the renegade Drow and his friends Review: I was very pleased with this installment of the Drizzt series and happy to see the life of Wulfgar unfolding. Hopefully the next book will have Drizzt and the mighty Cadderly together again. Thanks for a wonderful book Bob
