Rating: Summary: A great book by a great author! Review: The Silent Blade is a wonderful book and kept me turning the pages long into the night. I didn't want to quit reading and have to leave Drizzt and everyone else behind. I also liked this book because it delved into the mind of Artemis Entreri and Wulfgar. Artemis because he was not the same after fighting Drizzt so many times and not knowing who was the better fighter and Wulfgar because he had suffered so much. This book is a definite must read for all Salvatore fans! I also liked the fact that Jarlaxle was brought into this story and that he teamed up with Entreri, it seemed like that was the way that it had to be. Anyway, if you haven't yet read this book....do so now!!!
Rating: Summary: We need more Drizzt, and more answers! Review: Being a story about Drizzt and company, I couldn't put it down. The story as a whole left me unsatisfied. The fight with Artemis was classic, but his apathy did little to focus my anger against him, something I relished in Salvatore's earlier books. We need a great enemy for Drizzt, someone who makes him feel right and just in every sense of his being. Artemis and Jaraxle failed to do this. The story of Crenshinibon was lackluster and while it may well be a great theme for another book, it was only a distraction here. As long as RA doesn't kill Drizzt, I will keep reading. I own every book he has in print and probably singlehandedly financed his children's education. Refocus yourself and make Drizzt the character we fell in love with.
Rating: Summary: Good continuation of the trilogies; disappointing end Review: I have to agree with several other reviews in that the ending left much to desire. It's unfortunate that Salvatore had to complete the book within a fixed number of pages because the potential of the story could have easily been twice the length. Development between the characters are unfolding nicely though for future books to come. If you're an avid Salvatore fan, like myself, don't hesitate to read it. I welcome any email discussions about it.
Rating: Summary: HE MAKES UP FOR DISAPOINTING WULFGAR REUNION WITH ENTRERI . Review: THE DRIZZT AND WULGAR PARTS HAD A SAD TONE WHERE I EXPECTED THEM TO BE MORE EXCITED AND UNSTOPABLE. ENTRERI CHARACTER SAVED, I SAY SAVED BECAUSE HE BROUGHT IT FROM A 3 OR 4 STAR BOOK TO A 5 STAR BOOK. HIS PRIDE AND DEADLY SKILLS ADDED PHYSICAL EXCITEMENT THAT DRIZZT LACKED TO BRING TO THE BOOK.
Rating: Summary: A very good book! Almost surprisingly so. Review: I must confess that I started reading this book with a certain amount of apprehension. I've never been much of an Entreri fan. Heck, I actually wrote a series of short stories involving his demise at the end of each! Also, I wasn't that thrilled with Passage To Dawn. But with The Silent Blade, I was pleasantly surprised.Spoilers Below The main thing that struck me about this book was Entreri. Really, I was kind when I said that I'm not a fan. I didn't mind him in the first couple of books, but after The Halfling's Gem I had had my fill. But in this book, I really liked him! It wasn't as though Bob changed his character. He just made him seem so much more real, and not the, "I'm back, and boy am I mad this time!" guy he once was. He grew older. We also got to go inside his head a lot more, which was an interesting change. Drizzt himself wasn't all that interesting to me in this book, though I say this from a retrospective perspective. I originally thought that he was being subtly influenced by Crinshinibon and that it might get him in the end. (I read the rumours of his demise) That it didn't almost disappointed me. But I liked the way things played out. Wulfgar wasn't all that interesting to me. But his story seems to be only just beginning. This book partly felt like a way of setting him up for the future. Perhaps when he reaches The Spine Of The World... ;) Catti-Brie didn't have a huge amount to do with this book. She was an integral character, but not the focus. I would like to see something more about her some time in the future. To sum up the last character that really left an impression on me... Jarlaxle. He is just COOL! To me, he seems somewhat like the traditional hero of a story. He goes through the story, beats all of his adversaries and comes out on top! If anybody came out of this story stronger than when they came in, it's Jarlaxle. Bob, I would love to see more on this guy. He is, quite possibly, my favorite of all of your characters. Unlike some of the other reviewers here, I didn't feel that the story really dragged in places. It wasn't the traditional actioner that Salvatore is known for (somewhat without justification) but instead much more thoughtful. It wasn't enough to give five stars to, but then I don't think that anything other than the Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings will ever get that particular honour from me. But this book was easily as good as anything else that "The Bob" has ever come out with. Congrats on yet another successful entry! Looking forward to the next one...
Rating: Summary: Oh My God, I Love This Book! Review: I have to believe that this is one of the best books that Bob has written. I absolutely loved the roll of events, but please, oh please, write a sequel real soon! Don't leave us hanging!
Rating: Summary: excellent adventure; disappointing ending Review: Like a sequel waiting to happen is the best way to describe this book. I have been an avid reader of Salvatore's since I first read The Crystal Shard. This is the first book that I can truly say left me disappointed. After reading it in 5 hours from front to back, I had to pull out that last book to make sure I remembered the ending. I read most of the reviews here and would have to agree with a general sensus: too much & too thin. The story involving Entreri needed to be told and was great. Suspenseful ending. The idea of the destroying the Crystal Shard was good, but if it is an artifact & sentient, odds are it is going to be more difficult than just 1 book to sort it out. The story of Wulfgar/Cattie-Brie/Drizzt love triangle needs to be developed further(hence the sequel). Don't let Drizzt just roll over and give up. Seems to be a waste. How about some little Half-Drow running around the drawven mines?
Rating: Summary: A breath-stealing slammer of a novel. Review: Again we have the same fantastic Drizzt action that we all love. With some luverly old friends thrown in to liven the spirit of. However there is a problem with all but two books to date we are let down severly. How many times have you read about Drizzt's young and slender body, and handsome features. So why is it then that we consistently endure the mind-numbing annoyance of having another book cover that depicts Drizzt as old, fat and looking considerably like a dodgy human geezer with receeding hair and strangely and decidingly worrying brown skin. It is an outrage, why the hell can't they get an artist who has read the book to paint a picture. Or at least get someone who knows what Drizzt looks like to describe him. It can't be that hard, surely.
Rating: Summary: Sorry, but I thought it was boring! Review: I love Drizzt and have read almost everything Salvatore has published...but The Silent Blade was a let down. It was incredibly boring and predictable. I know that Salvatore doesn't want to hear this, but I bought the book to read about Drizzt...not Wulfgar. The Wulfgar/Cattibri/Drizzt love triangle is way too old. Why not give Drizzt someone else to be interested if you are going to keep silly drunk testosterone boy Wulfgar around for Cattibri. I did like the psychological battle that Artemis was having... and the way Jarlaxle took advantage of it. Other than that, I felt the same way Drizzt did when confronted with another battle. It's really pointless.
Rating: Summary: considering it's short comings, the book is worth it Review: Salvatore's new book, The Silent Blade, was worth the wait. Although Bob falls into an over used stereotype, the book is well written and a pleasure to read: The characters stayed true to form; and, they all get to intereact with each other in a well developed intrigue. I hope Drizzt's next adventure will be as fun to read.
