Summary: Out with the old.......
Review: After years of fruitless searching for a gaming group I finally hit pay-dirt. Now that I had a reason to buy the needed manual I picked up the Player's Handbook and was suprised at how easy learning the new rules were. From what some AD&D players had told me, I had fully expected to take a good 3 or 4 weeks to learn enough to play without getting laughed from the gaming table. I was stunned to learn that it only took a few days for me to get the basics down-pat and start playing. Anyone that was ever curious about playing D&D but was scared of the learning curve can sleep easy and feel safe with this purchase.

Summary: More fun that earlier editions.
Review: I've played D&D since I was eight years old. I survived the witch hunts of the Eighties and persevered throught the near death of the game in the Nineties. I have many fond memories of early basic D&D and even fonder ones of the first two editions of AD&D, but my nostalgia in no way clouds my judgment of the finest edition ever--the third.

I could go through a complex analysis of the new system and compare and contrast the three editions by their techical aspects, but it all comes down to the fact that 3E is simply a distillation and fortification of what made the other editions fun. For me that has always been what it was about.

Don't listen to crabby purists and anti-bourgeois cry-babies, buy the book and have fun.

Summary: Great new version!
Review: Yeah, I know, why do I want to buy all my books again when I have all of these 2nd (&1st) edetion games. This is better! It takes a bit of study to get the hang of it, but the combat is better balanced and gives many options & tactics to all. The disc is helpful when creating a quick character, but if you are going to be playing a PC for longer campaigns I suggest u do it long hand on paper so that u understand your choices. It really is more fun (Wizards don't suck so much) and is worth the expense & effort to learn. ***Excellent - Buy it!***

Review: I have played D&D before, but 3rd Edition is Cake...It is just plain awesome...I like the D20 System that it uses too...Opens up a much better and cleaner perspective on playing...It also brings more realism to game playing!! I would recommend this to anyone...If you are not a gamer then try it anyhow and you might just become one of the guys or girls that just love gaming...Enjoy!!

Summary: SO FAR..... SO GOOD
Review: I am new to D&D and so do not have the older games to judge 3e against.Yet I played D&D a few times in high school and remembered it as being fun ...well fun did not give it justice it was like a chess game yet with much more elements to consider.I have not yet found a group to play with but I am ejoying learning the rules an creating new PCs I have found the rules to be very realistic as well as letting you be very creative in your play as well as your PC. I am looking forward to playing for the first time.I am a 24m and bought the core books on a whim so to speak and found the rules easy to learn (and i had no one to teach me)so for new players like me if you have a group to play with or a good friend to teach you it should come very easy.Enjoy this book and game ... a new Rogue

P.S. I am a Corp. Sales Trainer and for all you people out there that that think this game is for people dressed in satanic robes and mental patients you have not read the books rulebooks it would take a smart person to play this game not those freaks.

Summary: A Ground Breaking Start
Review: Dungeons and Dragons has been popular for many years, based off classic novels like "Lord of The Rings".

The Players Handbook extends the world of fantasy adventure in a quasi rule book fashion that is sure to excite those slow saturday game nights.

I cant complain, this is the book that started it all and is just a joy to read, play and keep for all time.

Buy it for fun and entertainment, I got mine, do you have yours yet?

Summary: Great
Review: This book helped me soooooooo much! My friends and i wanted to learn how to play and the book told us everything we needed to know.

Summary: Very Enjoyable
Review: I'm just starting out in D&D, so I am learning pretty much from scratch. The Players Handbook was interesting to read, has excellent illustrations, and explains most concepts well with examples. It has made me very keen to get started playing!

However, I do have to agree with some other reviewers in that when creating a character (especially for the first time), and when looking up tables, you have to do a lot of page flicking. But that's not as bad as it could be, because the book as a whole is presented so well, so it's almost a pleasure to flick through it!

Summary: Newbies benefit most
Review: Having played AD&D for 20 years, here's my thoughts on 3rd Edition.

The effect of abilities has been made consistent. A vast improvement over the arbitrary pluses and minuses in 1st and 2nd edition.

Secondary skills have been made largely workable. Class restrictions are annoying.

Magic is laid out strangely in the manual. It takes a bit to figure how it works now and where to really find stuff. Once you study it, it ain't that bad but study it you must.

Dragons are way more dangerous now. 1st and 2nd edition players have to reset there expectations a bit regarding creature threats.

Feats can turn anyone into a superhero. The weakest part of the system if you want the "average-joe-who-can-make-a-difference" to be portrayed.

Beginners to RPG's will appreciate the hand holding structure 3rd Edition offers. Advanced folks are probably better served by sticking to what they have or adapting GURPS to their storyline.

Summary: How did that spell go?
Review: I've (don't reviews always start with ME?) been gaming since the 1st edition days. This is the best gaming system I've seen. THe combat is so fast, that its almost real-time. You don't need to be an accountant to hit an orc. I love it. There are a few stumbling blocks: its hard to find the actual combat tricks (ie, its not easy to find the bit that tells you exactly how to do a CHARGE), but once you flag the page, its a breeze. some of the spell-overlapping is not clear: you can't use a wooden sheild and a sheild spell, or can you?? I guess that's what being DM is about. This is a game system I'll use for years.
