Rating: Summary: The Best Just Got Better Review: The new Third Edition Player's Handbook is excellent. The artwork and design are fantastic. The rule changes are all covered and explained completely. It includes diagrams of all the weapons and common items, details on most human deities and alignments, and updates for character classes and non-human player characters. Anyone that complained about the new edition rules before they were released will be pleasantly suprised. This book would be an excellent product at any price and a must have for all Dungeons and Dragons players.
Rating: Summary: The Best Edition Yet! Review: I've been playing D&D for almost 15 years and this is by far the best and most exciting thing to happen to the game yet. Everything has been streamlined (not dumbed down), rethought, and reinvented. Converting characters, monsters, items, et cetera from 2nd Edition is a breeze and learning the game for the first time has never been easier. Whether you're a D&D veteran, first time player, or returning player there is something fun and fresh for everyone. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: D&D Comes of Age Review: Very nicely designed book. Great artwork. Writing style is concise and to the point, very easy to follow. A must have for any RPG player. The new rule set for D&D clears up many of the ambiguities presented by earlier versions. The highest praise for the time and effort put into this book.
Rating: Summary: 3rd Edition: Elegant Mechanics + a Nod to 1st Ed. favorites Review: The D&D 3rd Edition PHB is an excellent combination of updated rules and reinvented favorite classes from the original AD&D rules. Monks and Barbarians are back. A thief acrobat is easily invented within a flexible framework of skills and feats. The Half-Orc is back and better than ever. And, finally, the rules are flexible, balanced, and almost completely free of those arbitrary anoyances that didn't make sense in the first two editions. Never again will your fighter mysteriously forget her swordplay in order to study sorcery...THACO is gone - removing the need to add and subtract negative numbers. Most of the game mechanics follow suit, simplifying the game for new players without sacrificing the "realism." Any race can be any class and multiclass characters make sense. Of course there are incentives to do what the gods intended your class to do, but if you want to be a half-orc sorcerer, that's your business and completely possible within the rules. The power gamer aspect is still there, but with a catch: the monsters are powerful, too. Don't think your 7th level fighter can go toe to toe with a dragon ever again. Finally, and probably best of all, I can't find a class/race that is out of balance with the rest or that I wouldn't enjoy playing. These rules are very "tight." I can't wait for the next installments and I can't imagine playing 2nd edition anymore...
Rating: Summary: New age begins with 3rd ed. Review: This is nice. The design meets the criteria for roleplaying gamebooks. Inside looks nice too. The most important is that it finally has been realeased. People have been waitng quite a long time. So they have it.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book whether beginner or experienced Review: This newest edition in the Dungeons and Dragons is an excellent book. The artwork is exceptional. I could not put the book down after picking it up. I'm a player from 2nd Edition and 1st, and love the changes. The new 3rd Edition System is easier to use and the book layout with it's graphics and design should attract more players while retaining the current ones. I am waiting for the release of the compainion books to start my gaming.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Revision Review: This revision of the (A)D&D core rules was well worth the wait. The new edition replaces 2nd edition's emphasis on history with an emphasis on the fantasy elements of the game. Combat had the largest overhaul, making the description of exciting combat sequences much easier for DM's. Even better, very few rules seem to rule out use of older (2nd Ed.) material - although I think priest domains could have been explained a little bit better. Definitely the best D&D product of the last five years.
Rating: Summary: The best of the best... again Review: What can I say ? They have done it, they've done the impossible, they've done a game much better than AD&D. New classes, a different look of the existing ones, new rules (without yhe old loopholes), a complete game system that old players will find familiar yet better and new players will find easy to learn. Oh, I think it's the best game since our old and lover AD&D 1st Edition.
Rating: Summary: I havent even got it yet! Review: The PHB has finally arrived, after a year of rumours, debates and general melee over how the 3rd edition of D&D would impact the game. For those of you that know me, well - what can I say, I won't get it for another week or so, but I can stilll revel in its glory as I sit in the Chatroom of the Damned on the Gamespy server. Here is my summary of everyone elses comments: • It looks fantastic - the art is great • The rules are easy and clear to understand, even looking things up in the index is fun • Diagrams of size and area, combined with fantastic descriptions make the game excellent to play • The new rules themselves allow for choice and restrict (to a certain extent) powergaming - but have no fear munchkins, there are many loopholes for you to use • It's great value, considering the colour on every page and the binding • Hey there are some mistakes, but if there weren't there would be no fun spotting them! In general, this is a revolution for the game, and for the next month us chatters and message board posters will have nothing to do - until the DMG arrives. Until then, enjoy this magnificent tome and happy adventuring!
Rating: Summary: A must have! Review: All I can say is WOW! This book is every D&D player's dream! The entire system is completely revamped. I had a little difficulty adjusting to the new system at first. But once I got used to the new rules, I really noticed all of the enhancments that have been made! Just a few highlights....new XP system, new spell system (much more flexible!), new psionics system, new multiclass system (very well done), and SO much more. I've been an avid D&D player for many years now, and the old 2nd edition rules started to lose their luster. This book is a much needed revitalization to a great game!
