Summary: D&D for a new generation of players (buyers)
Review: I must admit that I have been disgusted with the onslaught of books stamped with Second Edition. Falling off the shelves like overpriced amendments to a perfectly good constitution. It was about time they did what should have happened long ago, admit that the game has changed. Most people starting D&D in the past few years would have had to shell out about 200 just to get a peice of the full Second Edition Library. It is time to get back to basics, use fewer 'standardized' rules, and get the player's imagination back into the game. I would hope that those looking for a strong backbone to role playing will stick to the basic book(s), and use their own ideas to fill in the gaps. If you have them, stick to the old rules set in your old 1st and 2nd editions and save your money! This game is about a players ability to think. It shouldn't have anything to do with the amount of books you can buy. Save your money for miniatures and cool dice.

Summary: Best game to date!
Review: The Players Handbook release signifies the beginning of Dungeons & Dragons. Its basically a improved version of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, but so much more! The rules have been incredibly simplified, while keeping the versatile aspect of the game. Its so much easier to understand and play. Its faster and convenient. The races, classes, weapons and more are all well thought out and detailed. Extensive play testing has made this book and the game the best to date. No doubt, I reccomend this to all the old Advanced Dungeons & Dragons players, and new players too. You may think at first, "I'll stay with my old game", but once you read the Players Handbook, you'll never turn back.

Summary: A definite must buy, be you newbie or grognard.
Review: If you aren't familiar with Dungeons & Dragons, but you recently became interested in the game, this book is for you. The rules are laid out simply enough that anyone with high-school reading ability and some simple math skills should be able to figure them out.

If you are already a fan of the game or the recent news about 3rd Edition has rekindled an interest for you... well you probably already have a copy, but if you don't own it yet, then let me tell you why you should.

Aside from the gorgeous layout of the book (though some have complained it is too artsy...) the rules have been elegantly simplified into a steady game mechanic. Nearly every game mechanic is painstakingly explained so there is a minimum of all the arguments about spell effects and such that were present in previous editions. The skills and feats add a balanced and wonderfully customizable aspect to characters (yes, balanced, not like the Players Option Books that were a good idea, but...). There are enough options in combat that the strategist should be fairly comfortable, but they are simple enough that the person who just wants to play won't get lost. There are no optional rules present in the Players Handbook, those will all be in the DMG where they belong. I could go on and on, but I feel the need to flip through the pages again... in short, if you want to play DnD the way it was MEANT to be played (hehe, all you OD&D players stop throwing things) BUY THIS BOOK.

Summary: Dungeons and Dragons 3rd Edition Palyer's Handbbok
Review: Awesome, simply awesome!!!!!!!!! This is one of the best laid out, well written, clear, rule books ever written! Everything, from skills, to feats, to magic is crystal clear!!!!! One of the things I liked was that they gave area of effect diagrams for spells in the magic section. Yeah!!!! No more arguments about "what does this spell do?" If I could give it 6 stars I would! Nay 10 stars!!!!!! Buy it, dont think about it, just buy it!

Summary: Very Impressed
Review: I was impressed with this book. At first I thought it was just going to be a dumbed-down version of the rules but was surprised at how much I liked it. I'm glad they brought back the monk and half-orcs. I would recommend this book to newcomers and veterans.

Summary: The rule set we've been looking for.
Review: Well true believers, it's finally happened. The D&D community has gotten a high quality rules set. They actually look like they've thought this one out in detail. I haven't been this excited about an RPG in a long time, especially D&D.

This tome offers new players well written material, plenty of examples, and class balance on a level that I'm having trouble deciding what looks like more fun to play. Old favorites return to us, including the half-orc, monk, and barbarian.

Turning to the page with the group drawing to show what each race looks like threw me right back to the good old original Player's Handbook. What a wave of nostalgia. :)

To all those thinking that it's another second edition, it isn't. My hat's off to the Wizard's of the Coast. They seem to have found what TSR lost.

Good adventures to you my friends!

Summary: An excellent book by the wizards!!
Review: Monks, Wizards, Paladines, Barbarians and many other character classes makes this the best edition yet!! Sure, you could play these same characters in 1st or 2nd edition, but 3rd edition classes have been slightly altered to make adventure/role play more exciting and interesting. Each Character Class receives a class trait(s) per level and not to mention that abilities now go past 45!! The art is excelent and the character generation/skill points are much more realistic than the other editions. I don't want to give too much away, but I will add this....Third edition rules remind me slightly of 1st edition rules with some minor but ingenius alterations.

Summary: A total revamp of the D&D rules
Review: This new edition of the Dungeons & Dragons rules makes significant changes to Second Edition. The game system is a lot more intuitive and does away with some of the more confusing elements of second edition. There is also a new emphasis on game balance to avoid some of the power escalation introduced with the various handbooks and expansion sets to 2nd Edition. The book itself is nicely done with great artwork. You could sit down with this one book and start a new game of D&D. The Dungeon Master's Guide will be out in September (I believe) but there is enough material in the Player's Handbook to get going.

Summary: Third time's the Charm
Review: The Third Edition of the legendary role playing system is by far the best yet! As a old time gamer, (since '74), I've played D&D as my mainstay game. Every edition has continued to evolve and add new dimensions to the game. This third edition really brings the game to life. The charachter generation, the selection of skills and feats that charachters have to choose from , and the game's ability to capture relatively complicated modifiers in a very simple and easy-to-use system makes this the new 'King-of-the-hill" in my gaming diet. This 3rd Edition PHB is a gourgeous volume. The illustrations are terriffic, the charts are clear and intelligible, and the charachter generater CD-Rom in the back cover makes learning the new rules a breeze. Do yourself a favor and get this for your gaming library, it really packs a punch,(Oh, did I mention how cool the new monk class is?)

Summary: a great improvement over earlier editions
Review: I approached this book with skepticism, but was completely won over. This new version of the Player's Handbook is clear, well-written, well-organized, and beautiful. The new game mechanics are a definite improvement, with everything in the game now working together almost elegantly. The graphic design is attractive without getting in the way. Perhaps best of all, the book is not overly ambitious and doesn't try to pass itself off as some kind of psuedo-fiction work (so that you don't have to hunt through countless pages of "story" to find the rules in the rulebook, as in many RPG books). All in all, this is refreshing enough to renew my interest in an old game that I hadn't played in nearly a decade. I think it's great.
