Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Dungeons and Dragons 3rd Edition Player's Handbook Review: I found alot of the old and some really good of the new. For the majority of the book i felt like I was reading 2nd edition and a half. However after rereading this book i realized that it goes much deeper than that. The addition of the skills and feats systems is an obvious plus. Now rolling for certain actions makes more sense rather than, "Well, I guess that would be a dexterity check..". The readdition of monks, bards, and barbarians, is a welcome plus to the standard player classes. Sorcerers, the new class is simply a great idea. A magic user who doesn't have to study spells because spell casting is inate ability is brillant. (Don't worry, I found them to be balanced so there are still pluses to playing regular wizards.) I'm saying that what this book has done is relaunch Dungeons and Dragons with all of the great parts of second edition. It integrates most of the supplements into this book that weren't duds. I would have rated this book higher, but i felt that rating this book with 5 stars would not be fair without actually having the Dungeon Master's Guuide 3rd edition to rate as well.

The newest incarnation of the GREATEST RPG has landed. Dungeons & Dragons 3E is a fantastic change to the last rules update that was more than ten years old. A solid game mechanic, with lotsa "stuff" to make a hero to be proud of. I just can't wait to see what comes next from Skip, Monte and the gang! Thanks, finally!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Now you can REALLY have a SUPER hero!!! Review: Wow, this new 3rd edition book and these new rules and options really broaden the scope of characters you can create. With new classes like the ever-famous Monk, the Sorcerer who is like a Wizard who can cast any spell he knows at any time, and a Barbarian who clearly outdistances the typical Dwarven Fighter, the new 3rd edition rules make for one of the most exciting D&D campaigns ever! Characters have become infinitely stronger, with special abilities for each class, thereby separating the classes even MORE than before, so each time you make a character, he/she is TOTALLY different than any other character. The Armor Class system is MUCH easier, there's no more spending hours adding and subtracting modifiers, and the rules are so much more clearly defined that arguments will be less frequent, enhancing the fun level for all participants. This book is a must-have, it makes the game so much more fun. If you weren't into D&D before this book came out, it's time to reconsider!

We have carried its blessing of imagination with us into maturity, and for many of us, it was only the beginning of our RPG (Role Playing Game) experience. Other games come along, some better, some worse. Many of us forgot about Dungeons and Dragons as TSR spiraled into its recent financial ruin.At the last minute, Wizards of the Coast stepped in to save Dungeons and Dragons, buying the game from TSR in late 1999. Their publication of this, the third edition, has been a long awaited triumph in the battle to keep the game of our youthful imaginations alive. In spite of the garish cover, the book itself is wonderfully formatted with an eye for simplicity and ease of reference that was not available in earlier editions. The interior art is simply beautiful. Even down to the simplest of illustrations, Wizards of the Coast has not skimped on the quality. The new third edition gaming systems are also designed with an eye for simplicity and ease of use. Formerly complex equations have been replaced with easier systems based upon the d20 (twenty sided die). These systems will vault the third edition of Dungeons and Dragons into a leading role among the RPGs of today. I can't say enough about this, the first publication for Wizards of the Coast's third edition Dungeons and Dragons. I would like to give them all my heartfelt thanks for rescuing the gem of my youth, our shared heritage, D&D.

The new rules excede what I had in mind, which wasn't much. The new class really caught my attention, now making me want to play even more! A few words, buy this book, it is WAY better than the earlier editions, and WAY cheaper! Well worth its price, for I would pay 3 times as much! Good job on the graphics and description, for it was easy to follow through!

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The Return of the King Review: It has been nearly 20 years since I played Dungeons and Dragons. When I was 12 years old, it was the only RPG around. However, my friends and I quickly realized how inconsistent and frustrating the AD&D rules were. Poorly written rules hamper good roleplaying because they bog things down and cause confusion. My friends and I graduated to other more consistent games such as T&T and GURPS. Well, the new D&D has finally achieved the kind of consistency and simplicy that I have sought after. In short, I now feel like I can come back to the D&D fold after so many years. In addition, the new edition seems poised to start a renaissance of table-top roleplaying, which is long overdue. There is an entire generation that has not experienced the fun of paper-based RPGs. The production value of the PHB is amazing. I can't believe that they got the price under $20! The rules finally make sense and I am looking forward to running a campaign with them. Wizards of the Coast it to be commended for their treatment of the game. If this new edition of D&D can bring "prodigal" players such as myself back to the fold, as well as attract new players, the future of roleplaying is indeed bright. D&D started the RPG craze over 20 years ago and it's good to see that the King has returned.
