Rating: Summary: Get to it R.A.! Review: This book gets 5 stars and the joy of knowing that the next book will feature that dynamic duo of villians: Entreri and Jarlaxle! But about Wulfgar...I used to HATE Wulfgar, really hate him. But while he's still not a favorite, I don't hate him like I did. This is a great book all the way around.
Rating: Summary: Salvatore does it again.... Review: Three days is all it took. I flipped pages so fast that it was hard to even think of the time as it flew by. The Spine of The World is yet another excellent work of art from Salvatore. With or without Drizzt, his essence of writing continues to amaze me. I felt the storyline was very solid and the reality of Wulfgar's fight to overcome his mental anguish could not have been described any better. Kudos Bob! I'll be salivating for the next one.
Rating: Summary: A DARK ELF BOOK WITHOUT A DARK ELF? Review: I HAVE YET TO READ THE NEXT BOOK IN THE SERIES OF THE DARK ELF, BUT ONE THING CONCERNS ME, HOW CAN THIS BE ANOTHER DARK ELF BOOK WITH NO DARK ELF? IT IS FOR THIS REASON THAT I GIVE IT FOUR STARS AND NOT FIVE. I WISH ZAK WAS HERE AND CAT WOULD TAKE HIS PLACE! SHE IS ANNOYING AND A TEASE! NO DRIZZT?! SAY IT AINT SO, SAL! SAY IT AINT SO!!
Rating: Summary: As always, Salvatore can't write a bad one in this series. Review: I find Drizzts journals one of the most enjoyable parts of the stories so I will try not to lament his absence. Also I feel Catti-brie enhances Drizzts persona. It is how he relates to her and the other characters that make him one of fictions greatest spiritual and emotional heroes. Salvatores knowledge of a variety of subjects and delightful outlook on human(and elven)nature make the series a serendipity among main stream entertainment. There is a book for almost any mood and will get you through the worst and best of times. The fight scenes are superbly choreographed, but are the most fun brought to life by the fighter and friend we see mirrored in ourselves.
Rating: Summary: A Breathe of new life into a ailing series . . . Review: Just when I thought that there was no coming back for the Drizzt Saga, RAS is able to breathe new life into it. Leaving out Drizzt, except for his journals, was the best thing RAS could have done. The 11 book exposition of his character was great, but I think we are all ready to move on, and Spine of the World does just that! And if you liked this one, his next one is suppose to center on Entreri and Jarlaxle. Sounds like the saga may just have a few more years of life in it yet.
Rating: Summary: It was great, and I truly could expect no less! Review: I'll make this short and sweet. I loved it. No disrespect to Drizzt, but Wulfgar is without a doubt a character who can stand on his own two feet. I do miss Drizzt and faithfully await his return, but this book exceeded my expectations. If you loved this one, you will love The Demon Wars trilogy, and I expect to see sequels in the future. Magga Cammara! Your Loyal Follower, Big Joe
Rating: Summary: A well crafted tale of a man's search for himself. Review: I'm pleased to be the first one to post a review who has actually read "The Spine of the World" I am a big fan of Mr. Salvatore, and thus am very biased in favor of his books. However, I'll try to be impartial. Those who are angry about Drizzt not being featured, fear not. He will return in later books. But you will also be pleasantly suprised by this book. The tale of Wulfgar is interesting and engaging. It was an enjoyable read, and I had trouble putting it down. I will say that I didn't find it quite as good as some of his past works Such as "The Dark Elf Trilogy" or "The Silent Blade". It still, however, is better than most fantasy available today. If you are an anti-Wulfgar type, read the book; you may find your perceptions change.
Rating: Summary: Wulfgar will have some big shoes to fill as the main char. Review: I believe the majority of readers that have enjoyed the Icewind Dale trilogy, Dark Elf Trilogy and subsequent sequels have particularily been lured to Drizzt's character and probably Bruenor. I personally have found Wulfgar one of the more boring and irritating characters as he seems to always be in conflict or mad at something. He is kind of high maintenance. However, ever since he went out on his own and found is way into the Cutlass Inn he has become more care free and almost reckless making him more enjoyable to read so far. I was wondering though in the excerpt where he and Morik were after those giants, he did not have Aegis Fang. Does he lose it or what? I guess I'll have to pick up a copy to find out. I'm sure it will be good, but please bring Drizzt back in the next novel. Can't possibly give the book 5 stars with my favorite character of all time absent from it.
Rating: Summary: I can't wait to get this one!! Review: I want to first note, did anyone else notice that R.A. Salvatore is writing a Star Wars book? I gotta say, after reading some of Kevin J. Anderson's excuses for Star Wars stories, I lost all faith in Star Wars novels. I hope Mr. Salvatore can pull this one off. But back to Spine of the World, I think Salvatore's twist of concentrating on Cattie-Brie and Wulfgar is a good one. This time, the fight isn't Drizzt's, and I feel confident that Salvatore knows what he's doing. Too often, I've seen long-running series turn out bad towards the end, and by giving Drizzt a rest Salvatore can bring him out again better than ever. Also, I saw Wulfgar coming back from when I read Starless Night, and I've been rooting for Wulfgar for a while. Salvatore is so far the only writer I know that has kept his stories fresh and exciting with every novel. I just hope he eventually gets to some of the things he's hinted at, like Drizzt meeting Dove Falconhand or the the elven child he saved.
Rating: Summary: No Drizzt? Cattie-Brie should Die! Review: My god! I love the Drizzt series as much as the other guy but I cannot imagine a book in this series without him! Get rid of Cattie-Brie instead, she is a rather worthless character in my opinion and kind of a tease. She should choose between Wulfgar and Drizzt already, not that she even deserves either of them. To the man, RAS: Please Add Drizzt to the book. Have him become evil and kill Cattie-Brie or something. Drizzt is one of the most intriuging and exciting characters in the history of literature. Please continue the "Drizzt Books" and stop wasting time with books such as Tarzan, and other series. The Cadderly series was good also. Maybe you could write an adventure for both teams of adventures having Danica and Cattibrie killed off. These women characters you have developed have become too strong. Cattribrie would never be able to take Drizzt out, never! Not even if Drizzt lost all of his sense and limbs. Keep it real and keep the girls in the kitchen, cleaning or making babies. Keep them off the battle field where they can only cause harm.
