Summary: This book is the best
Review: Bored of the Rings is a parody of The lord of the Rings and is as good at it. The book is so funny and everybody should read it. Frito must destroy the ring along with his untrusty friend Spam, a murderous Arrowroot and a sneaky Goddam!

Summary: bdgluvr181 Probably Has Nothing To Say
Review: I haven't actually read bdgluvr181's review below, but I bet if I did I'd find plenty not to like.

He probably has a lot of comments based on guesswork and ignorance. If I took the time to read his ill-advised review of Bored of The Rings, I'd probably hate it.

Seriously?

I find it (a) hilarious that somebody feels any piece of literature is beyond reproach; (b) surprising that this dude (for surely it's a guy) doesn't recognize that parody is almost always a sign of flattery. A loving tribute written in the form of barbed-wire prose; (c) comical that someone actually felt compelled to write a negative review of a book he hasn't read. I'd like to see this trend expanded to The New York Times Book Review ("Probably a Classic!")

Summary: a fun parody
Review: "Bored of the Rings", as you can imagine, is a parody of Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings". It was originally written in the late 60's, so some of the material is a little bit dated, but it still remains funny for those very familiar with Tolkien and some pop culture from the 60's. One thing to note is that if you have not read "Lord of the Rings", you will almost certainly miss most (if not all) of the jokes in this book and should take a pass on this volume until you have read LOTR.

This book features the adventure of Goodgulf the Wizard, and the boggies Frito, Spam, Moxie, and Pepsi. We also can't forget Stomper, Gimlet, or Legolam. This is a fun book that traces the adventure of "Lord of the Rings", from Frito's first acquiring the ring through the end of the quest in Fordor. It is a short book, but fun, and as the authors write, it is primarily about making money.

Summary: Humor, humor, and more humor....
Review: After discovering this book at a used bookstore down the street I must say I haven't laughed that much in quite a while. While Lord of the Rings, and all of Tolkien's other amazing masterpieces are by far the best things I've ever laid eyes upon after reading them eleven or twelve times they tend to get quite uninteresting. This book is hilarious, and after reading it I had to read the orginals again. It gives you a break from the in-depth genius of the books, and just gives you something to laugh at. It really all falls down to the reader, and you will either find it a disgusting mockery of Tolkien's work (which it is far from that) or you can be mature and open-minded enough for it to give you a rather good laugh. I hope most of you enjoy this book, I certainly did.

Summary: Hilarious
Review: For my own safety I will remain anonymous so the devote Tolkien Fans, most members of a secret cult, don't come and kill me. I'm speaking of the ones who dressed up for the midnight showing of ROTK.

This book, as they said in the introduction, is primarily concerned with making money. This isn't meant to be a completely original work. It is far from meant for those who believe LOTR to be gospel truth. It is meant for those who are atleast semi-familiar with the series. I tried reading the series, and found it to be forced. Different review entirely though. Those who flame me for this view are the Drones of whom I've mentioned.

I found this to be one of the funniest books I've ever read. Why? Because I understand enough of the jokes. And I don't take it, or LOTR, seriously. Parodies are meant to be the same basic thing with a few changes, be them large or small.

If you are a Tolkien fan, you'll either hate it, or be mature enough to get a giggle out of it.

And voting one star without even reading it is immature and wrong.

Summary: How could someone even contemplate writing this?
Review: Granted, I haven't read the book, and am probably making a false judgement...on second thought screw false judgement, who the heck would write something like this? Odds are, the person who came up with this idea, was irritated that Tolkien, and Jackson were having such success with their creative masterpieces, that he wanted to have his time in the limelight. So he picked apart only the greatest creation in literary history, just to have his 15 minutes of fame. I'm completely outraged that someone would even consider for half a second writing a 'parody' or 'joke' about such a wonderful epic. There's no way that I could or would ever read this book, it's most likely complete garbage that deserves never to have been published!

Summary: Wonderful Parody
Review: I came across my copy of "Bored of the Rings" in my high school days, in a small bookstore in Cambridge. I didn't get all the jokes back then, but I still found it one of the funniest things I'd ever read. It's not the most subtle parody; at times, it makes the Three Stooges seem restrained by comparison. With Hobbits- rather, Boggles- named Frito and Dildo, a rider named Arrowroot of Arrowshirt and a woodsman named Tom Benzadrine, there's not much room for subtlety. And yes, the drug humor is a bit dated. But it's still great fun.

Yes, some of the diehard Tolkein fans are offended. These are the same people who dress up like characters in the book and go see the movie every weekend, and who fill Blogs with lists of errors in the movie. But for the rest of us, who can appreciate a good hearted parody, it's a hoot and a half.

Summary: Aappalling...
Review: This is one of the most disgusting books I believe was ever created. Lord of the Rings is (other than the Bible) one of the greatest books ever published. Tolkien had a brilliant mind unhindered by perversion(which this book is filled with). I wish this book had never been created. It is an insult to the most perfectly written story of all time, and I don't see how anyone could find it humorous.

Summary: Bored of the Rings (Harvard Lampoon)
Review: This is one of the better irreverent parodies ever written. Albeit the book is loosely based on the Hobbit and the Ring Trilogy, that's where the similarity ends. You ought to read this before reading the trilogy. I did and had to read the trilogy to see how well they lampooned the characters. Reading this may well give you a whole new appreciation for Professor Tolkien's work. This book rates it's own movie. Any producers out there?

Summary: The funniest thing I've read.
Review: I discovered a dog earred, torn up, and precious copy of the first printing years ago...I'd talk about it but I'd never lend it out.

This is fantastic!
