Summary: Stink, stank, stunk
Review: Tolkion was a brilliant man. He created Middle Earth to be a whole world outside our own, and to be admired, not mocked in some sort of cartoon! Boggies! Please. Give it up for JRR Tolkien!!

Summary: I loved it then......I love it now
Review: I read this book in the mid-seventies. Yes I was one of those who read LOTH at least once a year (and still love the story),but, Bored of the Ring has got to be one of the Funniest books I have ever read. Good parody is hard to come by. This is GREAT parody. Having read it when the subject of the jokes were headlines, and, having read it again recently, I find it still fresh and funny. I think I found the Gimlet/Legolam relationship much more entertaining than the Gimli/Legolas. Even the map in the book leaves me rolling on the floor. A great read in these times of harsh reality.

Summary: Laughed til it hurt
Review: When I first read LOTR, I was suitably impressed, but saw no need to construct a shrine to Tolkien. There is no work of fiction or non which is "above" such parodies, and those who would claim otherwise should be tossed, bound and gagged, into Shlob's lair. This is truly a great parody!

Summary: Fantastic - masterfully done!
Review: Tolkien created a masterpiece, and these guys ripped it to shreds. I laughed so hard that I could only read 2 to 3 pages at a time. **WARNING** it may be a health hazard - I think it may have contributed to me having a hernia from laughing so hard. Funniest book I ever read.

Summary: A completely dated but totally brilliant parody
Review: I first read 'Bored of the Rings' before I read the trilogy itself and I could tell then that this was a very funny book, I just didn't yet understand the jokes. I read LOTR just so I could reread 'Bored' and in the process found how wonderful both were. Is LOTR above such parody? No! It's a damn storybook! It's not real! It's ok to poke a bit of fun at it. Also remember that when 'Bored' was written it parodied a reasonably current tome that was at the time well respected but not yet revered, much like JFK during his time and after his death or like the Woodstock concert being considered by today's youth as a musically mystical gathering of love and peace when it was really a big, muddy concert that became supremely overattended. What does this all mean? It means first go and read Lord of the Rings if you haven't already, starting with 'The Hobbit' if you need a neophyte's introduction to what we are all yammering about. Then try 'Bored.' If it's not funny to you, then go look closely in the mirror. You just may be an Orc. They were not much renowned for their humor.

Summary: Writing good satire (like this) takes a real eye for detail.
Review: Ok, in a nutshell: I loved the original and read it several times. This book is silly and very funny, a brilliant example of the lampoon genre, and if you get all hung up by someone making fun of Tolkien, well ...

do you remember when William Shatner was on Saturday Night Live in the famous "Star Trek Convention" skit where he told all of the Trekkies: "Get a life?"

Summary: This is one of the most funniest books ever written!
Review: I recomment this book to anyone who won't take it seriously. I haven't red the English version, but in the finish version all the names were so funny that every time I compare them to the original ones, I can't help smiling, or laughing. Everything was turned abolutely upside down! Songs! Yes! The were incredibly crazy! But anyone who thinks LOTR as a Bible, don't even think of reading this book. -Simon the Half Elf

Review: I don't think that the lord of the rings should be turned into a parody or into other thing... it's great and Imortal as it is.

Summary: J.R.R Tolkien
Review: First of all, I do not even give this book a star, I give it no stars at all I only put it that way because there are no "no stars" in the menu, second, I agree with Gloin of Bag's-End, J.R.R Tolkien wrote 4 simply glorious books and I sincerely do not believe that Mr. Tolkien the true "father of fantasy" deserves to be mocked or parodied in this or any other way, I belive that those who like this book are showing disrespect for the man who virtually created the fantasy genre. Let us hear it for J.R.R Tolkien!!!!!!!!!!

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: In response to "Gloin of Bag End"'s scathing criticism
Review: I have not even read this book, but I am defending it as an example of parodies everywhere. You seem not to understand why people write parodies. Parodies are not written because someone hated the books or wanted to disrespect them. They write them because they have read them enough times to poke fun at every aspect of them.
