Rating: Summary: Totally flawless Review: "This ring, no other, was made by the elves, who'd pawn their own mother to grab it themselves..."This was so good that I can't choose between it and the original. It's not only the funniest book I have ever read -- it beats the Hitchhikers' Guide series hands down -- I believe it's the funniest thing that I have ever seen anywhere. If you say that Tolkien is not to be mocked, then read the back. "Those who approve of courtesy to a certain author will not touch this gobbler with a ten foot battle lance." Says it all, doesn't it. If you enjoyed Lord, then you'll love Bored. You probably will hate it if you're a Tolkienologist, but if you can appreciate parody, get this book. It's simply hilarious. I could praise it all day, but that would cut into your reading time.
Rating: Summary: s---u---c---k---s Review: I can't believe ANYONE would make a parody out of The Lord of the Rings! The thing wasn't even funny! It is as disgraceful as "SpaceBalls" was when it tried to make a parody of StarWars. Tolkien was a genius, and one of my most favorite authors (the others being CS Lewis, Jack London, and Douglas Adams) and his great work DOES NOT deserve this kind of s***! If you want humor, read The Hitchhiker's Guide.
Rating: Summary: Ballsy! Makes you want to fart in church. Review: Yeh, yet another review - but I'll make it brief. This book is a hoot! Mad props to Tolkien, but this is a must-read for anyone who has read LOTR. About the dated humor - I'm 24 and I got at least 3/4ths of the dated humor, which is still a lot of laughs. And all you dungeon masters know how easy it is to make fun of epic fantasy; your players do it all the time. Now watch how the pros do it.
Rating: Summary: ONE OF THE WORLD'S GREATEST PARODIES Review: A wonderfully ingenious parody. I laughed so hard i cried. I suggest anyone who loves to laugh out loud read this book.
Rating: Summary: Laugh Laugh *cough* Laugh Laugh *choke* Laugh ... Review: It was great..Tolkien is pry one of the first three fantasy authors I ever read, since then I've done a biography on him and read some of his half-finished work and his son's work. This was just pure idiocy, and I loved every minute of it! It gives the perfect twist of moronic humor to just the right parts and keeps you coming back for more even though it hurts so much to read it. Great book, worth the $10. =)
Rating: Summary: You are better than this Review: Highly overrated. Humor fans deserve more. Very lowbrow and unfunny compared to books like Hitchhikers Guide.
Rating: Summary: It grows in the reading Review: One of the hallmarks of good parody is that the better one knows the original, the funnier the parody becomes. Bored of the Rings meets this criterion. I try to read through Tolkein every year or two, and every time I do I am captivated by a new facet of its genius. Similarly, every reading of Lord of the Rings (and the Silmarillion) brings me to a better understanding of the humor that underlies the countless cheap gags in its lampoon-ed counterpart. It is obvious that the authors are well-versed in Tolkein-lore, and while Bored of the Rings might not be of literary value equal to its predecessor, it's still funny.
Rating: Summary: Extremely Funny Review: If you are the type of person who cannot fathom mockery of your literary favorite: stay away. For the rest of the world, this book is hilarious. I first read Bored of the Rings some 15-20 years ago. I picked it up the other day, wondering whether the book would lose its appeal to my now-mature viewpoint. No way! I laughed even harder. The book is an absolute farce.
Rating: Summary: Waisted money, no laughs Review: Tolkien's books are amongst my favorites so i was looking forward to read this parody. What a disapointment! Not one laugh! Well ... i smiled 3 or 4 times. I laughed more at some parts of The Lord of the Rings! The authors simply rewrite the characters as complete morons and losers and tell absolutly the same story as Tolkien. Not one bit of originality! Waisted money, ... and unfortunatly a waist of time!
Rating: Summary: Excellent humor based on an excellent series Review: I have consumed everything Tolkien and consider his work far beyond any writings in this genre. I grew up loving The Hobbit and the LOTR's. However, this parady nearly killed me. I couldn't stop laughing. Every aspect of this book--from the bathroom humor to the arcane references--evokes laughter. Don't take life too seriously.
