Rating: Summary: In the world of the drow Review: Drow, a sadistic and cruel race who epitomize the concept of intrigue and stealth. The world of the Drow as Bob so deftly explained it was everything i imagined and more. The warring houses, the struggle for power and superiority was a creation of no small means. In the middle of it all was a lone drow who questioned the meaning of his existence and the cruel nature of his race.
Drizzt became a character I loved, not only because he was the most adept and competent of all the drow in Menzoberranzan but bacause he stuck to his morals and beliefs in a world where the natural order was malicious. Drizzt's struggles through the underdark, his self imposed exile from his kin, and later his journeys on the surface outline the very meaning of life and friendship. His feelings cast down bigotry and racism and show the meaning of truly embracing a person for who they are. A MUST READ!!!
Rating: Summary: Can you be good when all you know is evil? Review: The birth (in more ways than one) of Drizzt, the renegade dark-elf who sees the world in a different way. If you've read Icewind Dale, you know Drizzt, but not why or how he ended up in the cold north. Here is the chance to find out, and get a glimps at the hidden world of Underdark - ruled by the High Priestesses of Lloth.
Overall a great read, nice to have all the books at once, so you can keep on reading and reading and reading (might consider taking some time out to sleep every other day or so).
Salvatore is better here than in Icewind, giving the evil characters a voice and a bit more depth (not to mention power and survival). Also deals with a bit deeper issues than the first books, but still easy reading for a relaxing afternoon. Must-have if you like a bit of action (hack'n slash) in your games adn books!
Rating: Summary: Great start to the many books about Drizzt Review: An outstanding read where the main character, even in a fantasy world, faces predjudice and discrimination. I couldn't stop reading this one; always wanting to know what surprises wer going to pop up next.
Rating: Summary: Takes you back! Review: I read the original trilogy back in high school and decided to read it again. I picked up the Ice Wind trilogy and the Dark Elf trilogy from Amazon. It had been so long that I didn't remember the first trilogy and it was a god read. I had never read the Dark Elf Trilogy and it was amazing. This is one good read! I would suggest people start properly with the first trilogy to get a fee of Drizzt and then read these books. If you have not read it in years, pick it up! Salvatore is great at explaining and laying out these large complex groups and their interactions. Pick the series up now, Its a fantasy must read.
Rating: Summary: Nothing great, but not bad Review: I finished reading the Dark Elf Trilogy by R. A. Salvatore. A coworker of mine gave it to me for my birthday because it's one of his favorite books. It's a Dungeons & Dragons based book (Forgotten Realms, actually). It was okay. It was a male-centric book, except that the women of Underdark were the rulers. I get that the author was going for Girl Power, but he kind of missed the mark by making them abusive misandronic tyrannts.
I ended up skimming through some of the chapters.
