Summary: Don't bother
Review: As I scanned this book, I could only shake my head. WizardsOTC had the golden opportunity to produce the canonical product to encompass 19th, 20th, and 21st century role-playing. Instead, they gave us orcs with firearms. There are plenty of source-books and games out there that simulate these eras better than d20 Modern - for instance, Call of Cthulhu, Spycraft, even d20 Traveller.

It's clear that the designers and developers are out of touch with their audience.

Summary: If you're looking for an Action Movie RPG--Keep Looking!
Review: Classes and levels--Bah humbug! The same drawback that made D&D boring after awhile. O.K., so the class system is less limiting than D&D, but it still doesn't give players and GMs the flexibility to design the kind of heroes found in really GOOD action movies. An open-ended point-based system can do the job better. And even with the Blood & Fists martial arts supplement, it's impossible to build characters like those found in the Mortal Kombat movies and Big Trouble in Little China. All in all, I'd say it fails to capture the free-wheeling flavor of a true Hollywood action movie. Thumbs Way Down! I would have given it 0 stars if I could.

Summary: Awesome, reguardless of all bad reviews
Review: First of, I'd like to say, what's wrong with you people? I for one began playing D&D 3.5 and it was great, but, being DM I found myself at a loss creating dungeons... anyway, I happened upon this book and after perusing I found myself saying, "Sweet!!! I finally have material to build my own Final Fantsay-esque campaign setting!" I for one am pleased immensley. If you've played anything d20, which rocks, thanks, or if you're new to the system, I recommend this book with Urban Arcana. It's D&D in a modern setting... how cool is that? Forget what others say, I've invested a sizable amount of time in reading the material, it rocks! If you want free wheeling, try the marvel RPG with cards, and leave the real gaming to those of us with taste!!!

Summary: I don't know about this one.
Review: Gimme a minute, I'm still laughing about the fact that if you add the back of Dungeon 91-94 and the basic 3rd Edition handbooks you come up with about the same as this book...

Done. Whew. That was the best laugh I've had since watching the news the other day. Seriously, this book is an ultra waste of money. Wizards of the Coast (WotC) really crossed the line with this book, because it was a travesty just as much as the 3rd edition Monster Manual (I'll save that review for later). I didn't buy this book, I read it at a local bookstore (took me all of 20 mins to skim). I really can't think of anything else anyone forgot to mention, so I'll quit now

Summary: definitely modern
Review: Hey, my name is Pete I've been gaming for 15+ years. Only a few really productively though. I've played basic D&D, 2nd ed. Ad&d, and now third edition. I run a bi-weekly third edition game at a gaming store, and Have played GURPS a few times. While my review is based on only a first glance of this material I hope it will help some of you out.

For fresh and new gamers the information is very thorough, and this book should cover you completely to play a game. I think the mechanics may be a little harder for veteran gamers to grab onto because of the subtle differences. Many gamers know the D&D rules so well that a lot of calls are reflex and this is just unfamiliar enough to trip them up. The monetary system is very easy to grasp, but a little awkward to try to run. From a role playing perspective. The information is clear and concise giving the characters ample opportunity to flesh out their personality and lifestyle with day-to-day jobs/occupations and plenty of highly specific skills and feats. Once characters are completed everything is really going to have to be on the Game Master to keep the flow and feel fun and believable. For those hoping for sci-fi stuff this book really does draw the line at modern, but I'd wager there'll be plenty of D20 source material out there. Personally I think the current day tech-level is fine, and the book also allows for characters who want to go Archaic with swords etc. I'm getting a little too long-winded so I'll cut this short now, basically the possibilities are endless and I can't wait to play so I can start memorizing the nuances of the rules.

Summary: One of the best out there
Review: I am a fan of D&D, (even though with my busy lifestyle, I haven't been able to invite my friends to roleplay with me) but in my opinion, this d20 Modern system is much more fun. It is a lot less complicated, and has amazing fun possibilities! In the normal D&D, if you wanted to heal yourself, you used a potion or a spell. In this, you can use a potion or a spell, but you can make yourself a healing pizza or a healing cookie instead! Its the little things like that that make the game fun. Its great! There are hardly any errors in it. The only errors I've seen are actually little insignificant typos, like 'kll' instead of 'kill' and 'inccludes' instead of 'includes'. And its the first edition! That is very rare. Its well done, I applaud the writers. Some people here complain about things like a gunshot not killing someone. But think about it: killing an enemy in one shot? Kinda pointless. I have the Urban Arcana as well, and you shouldn't go without that. Really, buy this! There's something about it that the normal D&D doesn't have! (Besides the guns, cars, and technology)

Summary: Make your own world of Adventure
Review: I bought the D20 Modern Sourcebook as a means of using it to create my own indepth gaming worlds. There are PLENTY of organizations, enemies and story ideas within the book, but I just have too many of my own to use it. The book is wonderful, encouraging "multi-class" characters, leaving creations limit only being ones imagination. And of course, used in conjunction with the Urban Arcana source books, makes for a great sci-fi fantasy mix we all know and love. I've used D20 Modern to create a Mafia campaign, as well as currently working on a Spec Ops Campaign using a familiar group of G.I.s *hint hint* I love the book, and think it's a great addition to anyone's gaming shelf.
