Summary: Didn't have the information I was looking for.
Review: Although this is a large book, it didn't have the type of information I wanted. It talks mostly how to pick a class, and master it. What I wanted to know was what made a resource good or bad, how to make better harvesters, and it didn't even touch that. This book doesn't really give detailed information of this type. If you just want to know how to climb the ladder to become master of a field, then this book will help. Also tells you what you will gain with each level advance. But, if you're looking for the type of information I am looking for, check out the internet instead.

Summary: This should have been the manual...
Review: I always purchase the guide book with my mmorpg so I can have a reference available when I need it. This guide, however, is very much a waste of good paper. It does have a good listing of the skill trees and different professions, each race and their characteristics, but it does not describe what each of the skills do in detail for each category.

The town maps are actually useful for the fact that trainers' location for the elite professions are listed. This is the only thing I used the book for. At least the entire book is in full color, but the types of information I needed as I played the actual game are not in the book... such as what affects the quality of items crafted, and the different types of experiences and how to go about getting them.

Unless you have extra money to spend, love full color star wars pictures (you get a poster) or need a hard copy of the city maps, I suggest you stick to the fan sites out there.

Summary: A very handy read...
Review: I recommend this book as an excellent aid in starting (especially) and continuing play of "Star Wars Galaxies."

It is far more elaborate, direct and readable than the accompanying game manual and many magnitudes more accessible than albeit broader and more current web-based information.

Summary: Missing Tables
Review: I was very disappointed to find that the list of Crafting Schematics, actually even referenced in this manual, never made it into the manual. It was my primary reason for purchasing the book, and it was missing. No sign of it at Prima's Website as addenda either.

Summary: NOT a Strategy Guide...
Review: In bold letters across the top of this book it reads, "Prima's Official Strategy Guide". This book is far from it.

Inside you will find mostly a reprint of the online help, some reference material for beginners, and some nice pictures.

What you won't find are tips and tricks to help you 'beat the game'. Basically, any such exploits are are typically discovered and patched in a very timely manner.

This is however a very good book for those who are new to MMORPGs or who are new to (maybe one or two people) the Star Wars universe.

I would have been much happier with this book if I paid $$$$ rather than $$$$

Summary: Already out of Date
Review: MMPORPGs are dynamic worlds. As such, any "guide" is doomed to be obsolete. You best bet is to just bookmark some good SWG website for info. And, hey, they are free.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Okay, not great
Review: The manual in SWG is, despite its length, generally lacking in several areas (as is often the case with MMORPGs), and so this book is sometimes a handy reference. Interesting tips about starting out professions and races are included, and there are some town maps and some charts and tables that are useful. In all, however, it could have been *more* useful and to a certain extent it is rather out of date because things have been changed in many areas since the release of the book. If you can find a cheap copy, it's worth a look, but I wouldn't recommend paying full retail for it.
