Rating: Summary: wow! Review: C'mon, I don't know why so many people give this guide bad reviews, I thought it was a great guide to the best final fantasy game on PS1, it's informative and gives you a good perspective about a lot of characters like most rpg guides do. It lists weapons, equipment, magic, etc...I think this is one of the most complete strategy guides to any rpg game.
Rating: Summary: A Guide...on How to Get Around on PlayOnline.com Review: When I first bought the game, I didn't buy the guide. I beat the game in one week, totaling 28 hours. It was that easy. Then I bought the guide so I could get all of the secrets. Apparently, Eidos, or whoever wrote the guide, decided it best NOT to include the secrets of the game. Instead, it was thought a better idea to give a very short description of the sidequest and give a code so you could visit the website PlayOnline.com to get help. The point of buying a guide is to use it to help either beat the game, or in my case, finish all the side-quests. I refused to go to the website and still haven't finished a third of the side-quests. This is a sorry excuse for a guide.
Rating: Summary: Websites are better Review: This book is annoying in that all of the information of the game isn't in it, they make you go online, login, then you hafta type in a code, and THEN they tell you what to do in the game with a *few* pictures. I hate having to leave the room when playing a game to go online, which is why i would purchase a strat guide so I wouldn't have to go look on webpages!! Frustrating!
Rating: Summary: This Book is bad! Review: ... Like everyone else says, it just tells you to play online. I bought this book when it first came out, and to this day, I have never used it! I've looked through it, and it does have some nice pictures, but come on!... I love FFIX, but because of this "players guide" I have never done any major side quests. All I've done is that Vivi jump rope thing. Do not spend your money on this. If you need a guide badly, and don't want to go to playonline, look for a different non-offical strategy guide. ...
Rating: Summary: It's not a strategy guide. Why are they calling it one? Review: Brady Games could have saved a lot of paper and ink by simply writing on a 3x5 card, "Go to playonline.com.", then putting a fancy cover and a fancy back on it. This "guide" is absolutely terrible. Didn't it ever occur to the people at Brady games that the reason a person buys a strategy guide is because they DON'T want to be running back and forth between their Playstation and their computer. How in the world did they think that doing this would be convenient to their customers? The book tells you over and over again to go to playonline.com to get information that should be in this book. Wanna know where to get this item? Go to playonline.com. Wanna know how to beat this boss? Go to playonline.com. Wanna know what you'll get? Go to playonline.com. Wanna know what to do next? Go to playonline.com. Boss strategy is terrible. The book gives three to seven sentence descriptions for each boss. If you want additional strategy, take a wild guess at where it asks you to go. I'd definitely have to say that the worst part of this guide is the sidequest section. This section is only seven pages long and also tells you to go you-know-where if you want info that you have to have in order to do the sidequests. You won't be able to complete (or even begin) a lot of side quests with this guide. All it tells you is what will happen when you complete the sidequest (that is if you're lucky) but it doesn't tell you how to do it. Bottom line-DO NOT buy this guide. Unless you're in the mood to waste money. If you've already bought it, return it. Why does it get one star? Pretty pictures.
Rating: Summary: I feel bad for the trees used to make this guide Review: Ok, this book blew. I mean, after the guides for Final Fantasy 7 and 8, you would think that this would be good also. But its not. Dont be fooled. It is a very short guide that is constantly refering you to Playonline to get hints, which is a major waste of time. The game rocked, and I always thought that the Brady Games books rocked to, until this one. If you get this guide, you will regret it. Trust me.
Rating: Summary: You want to read a review of this guide? GO TO PLAYONLINE! Review: That pretty much sums it up. This book contains absolutely no information, other than "Go to PlayOnline!". "There is a great power-up here! To find out what it is, go to PlayOnline!" "You can earn a new weapon here! To do it, just go to PlayOnline!" And what's actually in the guide is ludicrous. NO EXAGERATION, on some of the boss strategies(which are just bullets, usually two or three) it says "When you Trance, use your highest power attack!".......REALLY?! Amazon.com now has that feature that lets you look inside a book..check out the characters page on this site using that feature...see those PlayOnline boxes? You will find up to FIVE of them on each page of the walkthrough, saying the ridiculous things I mentioned here. Awhile back I actually counted all of them, and if I remember correctly ther ewas somewhere between 300-400. INCREDIBLE!
Rating: Summary: Strategy Guide? Review: I agree with everyone else. I mean, if you want to waste your money on the book that's fine with me. But you're better off saving your money and just hop onto PlayOnline.com for the complete walkthru because that's what you'll be doing anyways. The strategy guide is only a waste of paper. Come on Guys, get your act together on this one. I think they should rewrite this guide. They may think everyone has access to the internet, but they should not assume that. It's not fair to the people who don't have internet access.
Rating: Summary: Did They REALLY Think They Could Get Away With This??? Review: This is going to be an alarmingly short review, because there is only one thing you need to know that will without doubt steer you away. About 75-80% of this book are *passwords* for their website, where you can type a code and get hints from there. What a complete waste.. Not to mention there is absolutely NO STRATEGY WHATSOEVER. It's a shame, since not all of Bradygames guides are that bad (Final Fantasy X, Kingdom Hearts, etc) But this really takes the cake as the worst guide i've ever seen. Reading the first few paragraphs of a FAQ/Walkthrough written by a fan at Gamefaqs.com will give you more information than this entire 'Guide'. It gets one star because.. well.. i guess the artwork is nice..
Rating: Summary: Horrific, SCARY-WASTE OF MONEY Review: A resounding NO!!!I think it's time Squaresoft pleases the fans here and came up with a SECOND version of a FF IX Strategy Guide, because as everyone echoes here more and more, this guide STINKS! Let's say you just got done beating a boss, or you want to know if a boss has valuable items to steal, or if there is a side quest that would be fun to take on a certain disc...this guide tells you to go ONLINE every single time you need answers! ...I COULD HAVE written a better guide even if I never played the blasted game. So those of you wanting a good, complete strategy guide for FFIX... DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY...
