Review: when I finally got this guide home and saw that all it really was , was an idiotic advertisement for Play Online. Brady Games has lost me as a customer, and has taught me the valuable lesson of looking at a guide before I buy it to make sure this doesn't happen again. I yearn for the days of VERSUS Books and their FFVII style guide. I was upset when I had to settle for Brady for FFVIII and now I am just sick to my stomach that I have a worthless guide in my hands. My computer is far away from my play station and so I am unable to use the book to any success. Squaresoft should be ashamed with itself.

Review: Many people say that this book is a sorry exuse for a strategy guide. This is untrue. The reasons I say this are: 1) It keeps the game fun, when they tell you where everything is it takes the exploring concept out of the game. 2) It gives good stradegy for bosses, it doesn't tell you what to do every single round, you can use your own strategy. 3) It talks about everything in the game but provides almost NO spoilers. 4) It tells you about side quests and mini-games but doesnt ruin everything like the prizes.

Summary: I would demand a refund...
Review: I bought the 'bradygames' final fantasy 8 strategy guide when it came out, even though a different strategy guide was available, the reason i choose the bradygames version is because the other version was almost exactly the same as an online version. with final fantasy 9 it feels like i spent 12 bucks for a book of 'easy access' codes to playonline. every detail that is usually covered in a strategy guide has a small blue box next to it that says 'for more details go to playonline!'. i dont want to go to playonline! i would have skipped buying the book if i knew that almost this entire guide was filled with ads for playonline... i would think that two actions are appropriate 1) create a 2nd edition and send it to everyone who bought one of these guides. 2) send out refunds normally i would live with it, but i expect so much more from bradygames, and squaresoft. --clint d.

Summary: Turned Out Not To Be A Strategy Guide At All
Review: What promised to be a strategy guide for the latest Final Fantasy RPG turned out to be a list of keywords for a strategy guide that is at their online site. It is very inconvenient to have to get up and log on a computer to go to the website every time you have a question. I don't know what someone who does not have a computer or is not online is supposed to do. The cover claims this book is enhanced by the website, but the book does not have much useful information in itself. YOU ARE BETTER OFF SAVING YOUR MONEY!

Summary: Should Final Fantasy ever be online?
Review: After reading the bad reviews about this strategy guide, I just remembered something I saw on Squaresoft.com the other day. With PSX2's release, Final Fantasy XI will be an online game!! Why would Square Soft do this? I know a lot of fans here like the idea of online because you get to play against other players, just like UO. But I am not particularly happy about it for a few reasons: 1) Not everyone has access to the Internet. 2) People with bad phone line conditions are determine to lose??!! 3) Many places in the world charge phone bills based on time - even with local calls, this would prevent a lot of people from enjoying the game. 4)** When I purchase a game, I want to OWN the game, so that even after many many years later, if I want to, I can still play it. But online games only let me own the CLIENT piece, not the server. And after many many years, the server is not likely to be running, and the CLIENT piece would be useless. I hope that Square soft will at least have one-person mode into FF11 so that we could still play the game without getting online.

Review: I am totally disgusted with this pathetic excuse for a "strategyguide." Like a lot of people, I always go through an RPG once bymyself then buy the official guide to get all the secret stuff Imissed. Although the FF7 and FF8 guides weren't the best things ever,at least they told you how to get everything and talked about all theenemies.... The book itself is no more than a basic walkthrough,something even I could have written since I already beat the gameonce. Things like jump-roping prizes, Treno monster rewards, andStellazzio coin locations are not in this "official"guide. You must go to the site to find them. Same goes for everythingelse that could be considered a side-quest or extra stuff to enhancethe game-playing experience. The guide is a total disgrace, and I willpurchase the first unofficial guide that comes out, whenever that maybe...

Summary: What is the point of a guide with half the info not there?
Review: I got the guide expecting it to be full of great information instead I must spend time trying to get on a site that does not seem to work 90 percent of the time. Even if they get playonline working right what about those who do not have internet access? Playonline is a nice idea but should not be used in the book the way it is.
