Summary: A Huge Disappointment...
Review: ...and a regretted purchase. Every time I have tried to reference something in this guide, it just points me to a website (which gives poor detail anyway) where after navigating for about 3-4 minutes, I can find a clue about what I want to know, nothing more. It lacks much info on sidequests, and very little about abilities. It, however, looks very well made, which seems an attempt to trick the reader into thinking it is a quality guide. What it boils down to is this: your money for a book that you could write yourself.

Summary: Barely Adequate
Review: Final Fantasy IX is a wonderful game and a very good buy. This guide, on the other hand, is not. It seems as though Brady Games has been on a downward spiral in relation to Final Fantasy strategy guides. VII had a wonderful guide, VIII had a decent guide, and this one stinks. Well, not stinks, but if you are a player like me, who thrives on totally dominating a game and making your team invincible, this guide doesn't do it. The "enhanced by PlayOnline" approach is ridiculous. People want the information in the book, not on a web-site. If the PlayOnline information had originally been included in the book I would have rated this a four, but as it is I'm selling mine and sticking to fan written FAQ's.

Summary: This book is okay.... i guess
Review: Why does every body give this book such poor reviews? Ok, so it doesn't have maps and doesn't include every single bit of information, but that is the good part. With a guide that gives away absolutely no spoilers and none of that cheap walkthrough stuff you will be able to get through the game at your own pace. Yes, it provides a walkthrough and has some boss tips which is enough for me. But the one bad thing is the play online idea, it just sucks. Who wants to go back and fourth to the computer?? They should just include everything in the guide. But like i said before, this is also an advantage for people who want to experience the game at their own pace without giving it all away. Buy this guide for extra information, i recommend it although it is not that necessary.

Summary: So-So
Review: This book is ok but not the best ever made.I think it is a better idea just to buy the game and play. This game is not very hard and it is very self explanitory.

Summary: Save your money...
Review: Save your money on this book. I bought this book for a friend who doesn't have a PC. She was upset about it because all of the good tips and strategies require you to have a PC with Internet Access.

To me it seems like the made the book, removed the helpful information and force you to visit their website to view the hints and there advertisements.

I wouldn't suggest this book as a gift. If the person you are giving it to has Internet access there are many sites on the net that gives more detailed information than this book does. Instead of the book, give them a free print out of the walkthrough and hint pages off the Internet.

Summary: Redefining the meaning of "Strategy Guide"
Review: This is bad. This is just plain bad. After buying Brady Games strategy guides for Final Fantasy VII and VIII as well as numerous other guides for SaGa Frontier, Xenogears, and Chrono Cross, I had come to expect far more from this publishing house. On the spine and cover of the book, it says, "Enhanced by PlayOnline!" What it should say is, "Completely Dependent Upon PlayOnline!" When I go to a bookstore and buy a book about a certain topic to get information, I do not expect the book itself to explicitly tell me to put it down and go somewhere else to get my information. That is exactly what this so-called "guide" does. "Want more information on this boss? Go to PlayOnline!" "Want to learn more about the Chocobo Digging Game? Find out on PlayOnline!" Get the picture? It's just plain bad.

What about people who don't have a computer or don't feel like jumping up every two seconds to go "find out more!"? If you want a simple walk-through of the game that will tell you to turn left or turn right in a dungeon, then this is your book. But if you actually want to find all the hidden items, uncover all the secrets, do all the sidequests, then save your money. Heck, if you're going to be using the internet in conjunction with this book, which apparently is the purpose, then just ditch the book and use the internet by itself. I, however, would have liked to have seen a good, hard-copy guide to this excellent game, but not even an unofficial one exists.

And it wouldn't even be so bad if PlayOnline was actually a good website, but if your internet connection is anything slower than a cable modem, forget about ever accessing this site. Want to make things a thousand times harder than they need to be? Apply for a job with BradyGames and help write the "srategy guide" to the next great RPG.

Summary: Awful.
Review: This has got to be the worst strategy guide for any game I have bought, EVER!

I'm comparing it to the strategy guide for Final Fantasy VII, also published by Brady Games, a couple of years ago. The one for FF7 had detailed maps, and instructions on getting EVERY item, beating EVERY monster, and finding ALL of the secrets. That is what I expect if I'm going to pay money. I can get a rough outline for free online, and this is exactly what the FF9 book is.

What makes me most angry is the blantent coverup of the book's incompetance (sp) by telling me to get the 'real' info [online]. This is just a cheap ploy to keep the book thin, and save the publisher money, by leaving out more than 50% of the information, and posting it on a semi-complete website somewhere.

I regret buying this, and will probably buy another, more complete guide for the game if one becomes available before i figure everything out on my own.

Summary: What a waste of money!!
Review: Oh my gosh, i cant believe that i payed for this. I dont know if you have played this game and used the book yet, but youll notice that half of the information that is supposed to be there i.e. the chocograph map, was not even on the site... actually if anyone knows where i can go to find out where they are, please email me at floydphan2@aol.com....i would really appreciate it.

Summary: Horrible Walkthrough
Review: This is probably the worst Final Fantasy Stragegy Guide. It tells you what items there are but does not tell u where they are on the level. Half of it says to use PlayOnline.com. Save your money or just go on Playonline.com.

Summary: Not very good
Review: ok, i would actually give it 0 stars if i could. it was almost zip help. and if u got this book and dont have the net i feel sorry for u. this book heavily relies on there stupid site to find out stuff insetead of them straight telling u.

ex. this area is where the best weapon in the game is obtained. want to know how to get it? enter this keyword at playonline. Chrono cross had a good guide. ff8 had a good guide, this one isnt a guide at all. to tell u the truth y not save the trouble and just go to gamefaqs instead.
