Rating: Summary: Good, but... Review: A good book for a great game. I can't recommend the game enough, really. The strategy guide is definitely good at telling you where to go and everything, but it needed full color maps so you could find the treasure more easily. Also, there are tons of story spoilers not in the text but in the pictures of the game (there are even spoilers on the back cover!) So, if you have already beaten this game I would suggest getting this guide just for the item, enemy and weapon charts as well as treasure lists but if you don't want the story spoiled for you and want some fun your first time through, don't get it.
Rating: Summary: This is a great guide to a Awesome game!! Review: Brady did an excellent job with the maps and hints. The item and weapon lists are a big help. The secrets are one of the main thing everyone is looking for!
Rating: Summary: Rampant Spoilers but a fantastic cluebook! Review: First off, I can do nothing but thank the other people who posted a review about this cluebook! If I had bought this cluebook before beating the game, I would have spoiled SO MUCH of the plot of this awesome game! The spoiler warnings should be taken to heart if you want to be surprised in the least bit about what's going to happen next in this game. Also, from what I've notice lately, all Brady Games' cluebooks are rampant with spoilers. I have the ones for FF7, Parasite Eve, Metal Gear Solid, and now this one, and ALL of them spoil the games' plot! So far, the Xenogears one is the worst. Right from the first section, which contains character bios, it tells you what happens to the characters throughout the game, and spoils several of the plot twists in the process. But despite this, Brady Games does make some of the best cluebooks out there as far as game detail. If you're one of those people like me who likes to do every little thing possible in a video game, get their cluebooks! If not for the spoilers, this cluebook would've gotten a 5 star rating! In closing, I'll repeat, DO NOT get this cluebook if you haven't beaten the game, or don't mind spoilers! If you do, don't even flip through this book if you see it on the store shelf! The pictures in it are just as bad!
Rating: Summary: The best guide for the best game Review: For those of you who simply can't figure out what to do once the second disc of Xenogears rolls around, this book is for you. The best guide in creation, The Xenogears guide walks you through every form of puzzle you could possibly hit while playing this game.
Rating: Summary: the book really helped me find a lot of things i missed Review: I had beaten the game and then bought the book and it turned out I missed a lot of very important things. So it's great.
Rating: Summary: A great book from Brady Games, but that's not saying much... Review: I just don't think Brady Games gets it. If you're going to make a strategy guide for a game that relies heavily on plot, you _don't_ want to spoil it. Also, they could have crammed more stuff in the pages, like MAPS!! I still got lost in those 3-D worlds! In conclusion, their FF7 book was bad, and so is this. It does, however, get an extra star for being complete (at least, I HOPE it's complete). I don't know how this became the "official" guide.
Rating: Summary: My first game guide book and I like it Review: I read the the book when I first bought it. It was nicely illustrated and shows the gears. It really helped me through some difficult levels. One god thing about the book is that it shows the HP, etc of the bosses. But one thing I dun really like is that it does not show all the gears. For example, Fei has a total of three gears throughout the whole game. But the book only shows the first gear. I think that they should maybe show all the gears in one or two pages. At least we would know how it looks. But overall, I not only like the book, I love it!! Go get it if you have the game but you dun have the guide book yet.
Rating: Summary: Helped me get through the ending again. Review: I recently purchased this guide to help me get through the ending of Xenogears (for the second time) before I started playing my newly purchased Xenosaga. I can honestly say that without it, I wouldn't be 3 hours into Xenosaga already, and I doubt I'd even be close to the final boss match. I whole heartedly recommend this guide.
Rating: Summary: Amazing game, shame about the guide... Review: I think it's agreed by all that Xenogears is one of the best RPG produced. It's a pity then that the strategy guide doesn't live up to that reputation. Although I did find it useful in places, the fact that parts of the walkthrough is completely wrong and some secrets were missed out didn't help. From a design point of view, the book is terrible. Empty white spaces made me thnk the book was being padded to fill pages and there is a general lack of artwork from the game. It's a shame as the publisher is usually excellent at producing strategy guides (Parasite Eve & FF VII). Buy the book if you really are stuck. Otherwise there's always the internet...
