Summary: Story is decent, the artwork is lacking greatly
Review: I have to admit straight off, that I've never fully liked Howard Chaykin's writing, and I think Dan Brereton is one of the worst artists in the business. For me this story was technically perfectly well written, but it never really drew me in. There were a few little surprises in the story, but I found the characters dislikable and the artwork atrocious

Summary: thilling
Review: The story was origional, I'll admit, but to stretched out. The story begins centered around Batgirl and Detective Bruce Wayne, but it stretches to almost every corner of Gotham, and even incorporates Black Canary in the '62 thread.

Two many threads don't go anywhere, and though some provide great dramatic moments, they are watered down by the point that they have no function.

Neat new origens for Batman, Batgirl, Black Canary, Mr. Freeze, and Killer Croc, but the Joker aka Bianca Steeplechase aka Blache Gregory could have been fleshed out, as well as the TwoFace thug and Harley Quinn, which is a horrible attempt to add in more drama to the climax.

The characters aren't likeable, and the cleavage is laid on a bit thick for 1961/1962. Not very time-themed, and a bit forced.

Read for the new takes on costumes and origens.

Summary: The Dark Knight just got darker....
Review: This is a superb reworking of the myth of the Dark Knight. Starting not with Bruce Wayne but with Robin and Batgirl, the story offers readers a new and thought provoking version of Batman's origins, as well as the origins of some of the major villians. The story pumps along at a high adrenalin rate, and the moody artwork adds tremendously to the whole story. (So why isn't Amazon featuring the cover??) Highly recommended.

Review: This is the comic book that got me into comic books. The story is so unique and dark. The art work is beautifully painted by Dan Brereton. The artwork alone is enough to buy this book. But the story keeps right up with the great art work.

Summary: Story is decent, the artwork is lacking greatly
Review: This review is going to be short and sweet. I've been enjoying DC's "Elseworlds" series in which they make a twist on well known characters. In this one, Bruce Wayne is the penniless son of two of Gotham's richest family. The family lost their money in the Depression, Bruce had to sell Wayne Manor to pay for his father's debts, and he becomes a detective on the G.C.P.D. Barbara Gordon blames her father for not being around when her mother was killed and strikes out on her own, eventually buying Wayne Manor and becoming Batgirl to exact revenge along with her boyfriend who takes on the role of Robin. Bruce is put on the case of ridding Gotham of the Dynamic Duo while battling a corrupt department and a well connected underground. Look for Two-Face as a crooked cop, Catwoman as a stripper/informant, a female Joker as a socialite, a bodyguard Croc who guards a scientist Mr. Freeze, the Riddler as Barbara's shrink, and the Black Canary as the wife of one of Bruce's friends.

Where this book is highly lacking is the artwork. It has the appearance of an amateur oil painting and trades "style" for quality.

Summary: A Dark Tail In An Elseworld That Fans Will Love
Review: This story set in the 1960's tell the story of Batgirl and Robin, the crime fighters/outlaws of Gotham City who are being hunted by Bruce Wayne of the Police Department. Bruce Wayne eventually joins the team. A Batgirl will like this story since she is the leader of the team. This story gives alternitive versions of the origin of many Batman heroes and villans.
