Summary: Daredevil is worth reading again!
Review: Imagine my surprise when I heard that Daredevil was going to be written by one of my favorite film makers. My first thought was, "Why would Kevin Smith pick a lame character like Daredevil? His funny books haven't been very interesting since Frank Miller wrote them." Now imagine my surprise when I finally managed to track down a copy of the sold-out #1 issue and was completely blown away. Mr. Smith has taken a very underused character in the Marvel universe and turned him into one of the most human. As you read his eight issue run, you feel for Matt Murdock (Daredevil's alter ego, for those who aren't in the know) as his life is ripped to shreds yet again. Although I think that every superhero has had his or her life torn apart by one writer or another, I haven't ever felt any pity or sorrow for them. They were always just made up characters doing made up things. Daredevil, on the other hand, seems like he could be anyone of us. He could be your neighbor going through the same problems (but without all the superhero/supervillian fights, I would think). He could even be you. As you read this, you are forced to think, "What would I do in his situation?" To me, that's what makes good stories and movies, and Mr. Smith has proved yet again that he knows how to involve the reader in his tales. And if you have any interest in this story at all, it's much easier to pick it up in this form rather than tracking down all eight issues, cause all us

comic geeks snatched them up as fast as we could.

Summary: A must-have for any serious comics fan
Review: Miller's run on DAREDEVIL absolutely revolutionized the superhero comics medium: he initiated a whole series of darker, grittier stories that came eventually to dominate the medium in the late Eighties and early Nineties. But a look at his run on the series will tell you instantly why he was so influential: for a while, this was the most intelligent and sophisticated series being published by a major comics company.

This first volume shows his initial work on the series, when he was pencilling (and then co-scripting) with Roger McKenzie as writer: this is not yet when the series hit its full height, with the series of stories involving the Kingpin and Elektra (that will be published in volume 2, presumably). This earlier stuff is absolutely fascinating for Miller's beginning ventures into what would become the hallmarks of his run on the title: the grim and violent storylines, the sophisticated depiction of a man's obsessions and his tortured emotional attachments to women (such as the Black Widow and Heather Glenn), and the absolutely beautiful expressionistic compositions. By the later stories in this volume--particularly the gorgeous pencisl for the Gladiator story--you'll see Miller at the peak of his pencilling maturity. This edition is printed on gorgeous paper stock, and is a great bargain. Highly, highly recommended.

Summary: Revision to earlier review
Review: Ok, this IS volume one. There is another one listed just as "Daredevil Visionaries: Frank Miller". That is actually Volume 2, although it is not listed as such. This is a good collection, as you see the early work of Miller, and see how his influence slowly started to take over the comic. Good stuff.

Summary: Frank Miller shines.
Review: One of the greatest graphic books ever is nearly flawless. This book follows Daredevil through 9 issues from the mid 70's. During these issues, he fights everyone from the hulk to Doctor octopus as well as his villians like Bullseye and Gladiator. His relationship with the black widow crumbles, and Ben Urich starts to realize his identity. This would be perfect if it weren't for the last issue which Miller just did art on. But the other 8 certaintly make up for it. It is defiently worth your time and money.

Summary: Daredevil's Finest Hour
Review: The cover of this book makes me want to see Miller writing and illustrating Daredevil again. With all his lighting and film noir techniques; Matt Murdock became a real character with flaws that made him all too human. I especially like the Bullseye villian. He is like what the Green Goblin was to Spidey. The Kingpin took over that role with his turn at Murdock. He destroyed his legal practice. However that's another story.....

Summary: Excellent, an absolute must have
Review: The highlight of Frank Miller's legendary run on Daredevil, Visionaries Volume 2 collects issues 168-182; introducing Elektra and beginning the classic saga which would lead to her death. In this collected volume, DD tangles with Turk, Sewer King, the Kingpin, and the deranged assassin Bullseye; culminating in the classic battle between Bullseye and Elektra which left her dead. Miller's cinematic style artwork and superb storytelling perfectly control the pace of the story, something that is nearly impossible to do in comics. However, while this is an essential book and all, the dialogue can be a bit cheesy and grating at times, but if you can look past that, you'll find one of the greatest stories ever to be written in comic history. If you're new to Daredevil and like this, pick up Miller's Born Again which manages to be even better than this.

Summary: Miller's Daredevil
Review: The last volume of Frank Miller: Visionaries was good, but this's far better. Why? Because Miller doesn't just do the pencils this time, he gets to do what he's famous for: writing. This volume contains the introduction of Elektra and her relationship with Murdock. Certainly the most popular and influential run on Daredevil.

Summary: Great, But make sure you know what you are buying!
Review: There is a slight problem with the way the Daredevil Visionaries Series is described on Amazon. Make sure you know that this is VOLUME 2! Not Volume 1, which has the same description and reviews. THIS ITEM IS VOLUME 2! Volume 1 is out of print and difficult to find. THIS IS VOLUME 2!!! I CAN'T SAY IT ENOUGH! Enjoy.
