Summary: elseworlds as it's best!
Review: Alternative history books - "proper" or comic - start with The question - "What if?" In this case, what if Bruce Wayne happen to live in "innocent" Victorian times - than he could easily become a friend and an apprentice of Sigmund Freud and visit London at the hight of Ripper crimes...
It seems that bat mythos is as reach and as flexible as the Greek ones - you can tell them again and again in different decor, use different cast - and have the same impact!
Beutifully paced story, darkly magnificent art - and horror grandmaster Robert Bloch as an intro writer - what can be better?
Definitely worth hunting for.

Summary: The Best of the Alternate Batmen
Review: I beg to differ with the reader from the Phillipines. This is the first of DC Comics " Elseworlds " graphic novels, where they dared to take the popular franchise of Batman and do something radically different with it. But the amazing thing of it is, it works. Mike Mignola's artwork is at its moody best;giving the tale a dark and claustrophobic feel. The image of the Victorian Batman is one of Gothic power, particularly near the end as he chases the Ripper on a black charger. Very intimidiating. The story is an intriguing one, and I liked how the Ripper and the Batman were linked. At one point, because of his nightly abscences, Bruce Wayne is suspected of being the killer! Who is? Ah, there's the real mystery. Augustyn's writing is top notch, and he's clearly in love with this take on the Dark Knight. If you want more of the Victorian Batman, read the superb sequel Batman: Master of the Future. If only they'd create a new book, this Caped Crusader deserves more

Summary: A great Batman tale
Review: I was nothing but impressed by this book. The artwork was great, & the story really was top notch. The design for the 1880's Batman costume was extremely cool. Definately a must-read for fans of the Bat & for any comic fans.

Summary: Interesting
Review: The first of the Elseworlds books. At first look, this book is a real eye-catcher. The trade ads say that Jack the Ripper has finally met someone more terrifying than he is. That's only what it says. The book just doesn't capture the feel of better Batman comics like The Dark Knight Returns and Year One. Mike Mignola's version of the Batman may be one of the most popular but in this book, he just kind of failed to make Batman feel terrifying and intimidating. The story was kind of predictable. The setting of the story does make it interesting as it's not an approach tried on superheroes before. Taking a well known character and change the circumstances surrounding him. Because of that, it makes you wonder if you apply the same thing to other DC characters.
