Summary: Catch Your Breath and Dive in-the Ultimate Avengers Story!
Review: Kurt Busiek and Carlos Pacheco take 6 Avengers from various time periods (including one from the future and 2 who are the same guy!) through the equivalent of what Wolfman and Perez did to the DC Universe in what amounts to a walking tour of all-things Avengers. They do a fair job of balancing the story with encyclopedic insider history, but without at least some knowledge of the Avengers' past, the whirlwind tour of characters you don't know and references you don't get, gets to be tiresome. Also, I hated the ending. I thought Busiek copped out for a story of this magnitude. After taking the reader through all that -resolve the thing, dammit! Still, "Avengers Forever" is a spectacle on a grand scale, just not quite as fun if you are not in the know.

Summary: Somewhat of a dissapointment
Review: Okay, this is the first Avengers graphic novel that I've ever read, and I found it to be somewhat dissapointing. Although I enjoyed the time-traveling idea, and the revealing of the Avengers' and the Human Torch's and Vision's origins, it just seemed to me that the Avengers were kind of wimpy, with maybe the exception of Captain America, sine he fought alongside Nick Fury a lot of times in the past and slaughtered several Nazis and neo-nazi syndicates. I mean, there are times when an enemy army of thousands of soldiers are attacking the Avengers, and they (especially Hawkeye) are afraid to kill even a single one of them! I don't know, maybe it's because I'm used to more violent and war-like graphic novels such as Wolverine and the X-Men, but I found this graphic novel to be dissapointing.

Review: This formula holds true for any other trade paperbacks amazon is offering written by Busiek. The Ultron one in particular is very good.Unfortunately, Busiek stepped away from the Avengers a few months ago -- his work and genius (not to mention memory) will not be surpassed for some time. Avengers Forever -- a sort of sideways drift alongside continuity -- shows Busiek at what he does best: keep the Avengers interesting within "the family" as well as punching bad guys. This book is perfect to turn others onto the other Avengers books as it is more self-contained (although it in itself is a microcosm) -- it can be read without understanding the regular Avengers title. 4 Stars not 5? There should be more Avengers Forever!

Review: THIS IS DEFINATLEY THE BEST AVENGERS STORY ARC OF ALL TIME. BUSIEK IS AT HIS BEST, AND THE ART IS PAR AWESOME. SUPERB DIALOGUE. THE EXPLANATIONS OF PAST STORYLINES IS A HUGE TREAT, AS ARE THE GLIMPSES OF ALTERNATE REALITIES WHERE THE AVENGERS WILL EVENTUALLY END UP RULING THE UNIVERSE. A GREAT WAY OF CAPITALIZING ON THE DESTINY FORCE, KANG, AND IMMORTUS. THE SUPREME INTELLIGENCE ANGLE WAS INTERESTING AS WELL. 5 STARZ

Summary: too complicated for all but the most dedicated fans
Review: This story primarily attempts to explain contradictions from nearly 40 years of Avengers history. Sadly, the biggest contradictions arise from previous attempts at reconciliations. There's also a standard cosmos-shaking story in there, and it's all quite competently scripted and beautifully illustrated. But the bottom line is that if you haven't already read dozens or even hundreds of previous Avengers stories, you probably don't care. If you're looking for better work by Busiek, try Astro City. If you're looking for better Avengers, try the Kree-Skrull War, the Korvac Saga, or Ultron Unlimited. Or better yet, find the original Thanos stories from the 70s, which may not have been reprinted. Now *that*'s cosmic!

Summary: My son and I both loved this book!
Review: With Rick Jones sick beyond their ability to heal, the Avengers turn to the Supreme Intelligence, an organic supercomputer for aid. However, little do they know that this is merely the beginning of an adventure, one that will decide the future of mankind. Immortus, the Lord of Time, wants Jones dead, but strangely Kang the Conqueror wants him to live. Jones, together with a misfit group of Avengers drawn from various places and times, must save mankind, and unravel a riddle deeper than they can imagine. I got this book for my eight-year-old son to look at, but it was way beyond him. However, I must admit that I loved this book! The story was well written; it is extremely complex, and yet did not succeed in losing me at any point. This is a great graphic novel, one that I highly recommend.
