Rating: Summary: Possible Chobit? Review: Persocoms. Beautiful, Obedient... Fully Functional. They're perfection. In a time where computers the shape of a shoe box sit on top of your desk is crazy but ones that walk and talk aren't lives a guy named Hideki. He's used to getting the short end of the stick, he can't get into school and his 'loving' parents refuse him an alloyance. Therefore, he's now a busboy with just enough to get by. He envies those who are rich, and especially the people who own persocoms. But, Lady Luck was finally on his side when he discovered a girl wrapped in cloth out in garbage. He takes her home, realizing she weighs a ton, and realizes its a persocom. Something must be wrong with her for her to be in the trash, right? After discovering her switch, she comes to 'life', only uttering 'chi'. As the story continues Mrs. Shimizu, Hideki's teacher, comes over, shocking him with a request to spend the night. But, what's the mystery with Chi? And why does she keep spacing out? The first volume in CLAMP's Chobits series certainly causes you to be curious. There is nudity and some older humor, so children under 13 shouldn't read it.
Rating: Summary: A great series Review: This book is great. I almost laugh when I read reviews on it about it being "sexist," expecially when Clamp, an all woman team, wrote and illustrated it. Though, I do agree, it does get a bit racey for some overprotective parents to think their kid is reading, but I point to the "Age 16+" tag on the back. All in all, though, the series fares very well... i never would have guessed the ending. I recommend checking out the first manga.
Rating: Summary: Excellent beginnings to an excellent series. Review: Chobits is one of the most fascinating manga I've read in a long time, in my personal opinion. The main premise to the story takes place in the 22nd century, where PCs have taken human shapes called Persocoms. Similar to robots, except more human like. This first volume introduces you to standard set of characters, the main characters, Hideki Motosuwa, a 19 year-old boy who goes to a cram school, is poor, and is constantly unlucky and unfortunate, Chi, a persocom who seems to be unique in her abilities as a persocom, Takako Shimizu, Hideki's cram school teacher, Shimbo, Hideki's loyal friend and school friend, and Minoru, a persocom expert. Theres also several other characters introduced. However, what makes this volume a great start, is its ability to grab and hold your interest, its unique twist of sci-fi, comedy and romance, should hold an older audience, ages 13 and up, and interest the reader in purchasing further volumes. Despite the brief nudity in this series, there is nothing to be worried about as long as you can comprehend the storyline, which is the reason I said this is more of an age 13 and older series, as opposed to the older teen (age 16 and older) that is placed on the back of the novel. The unique comedy and unfolding plots of each character should keep even general and casual manga fans entertained.
Rating: Summary: Chobits, Vol. 1 Review: Parents: This is porno; not a comic book. Don't let your young children buy it. The book states on the cover that is it for older teens 16+. It is not suitable for kids.
Rating: Summary: Refreshing and entertaining Review: More than once, I've attempted to read various series by CLAMP, and have always found them to be bland, "girly", fan pandering, and cliched. Blessedly, this recent series is aimed at older fans, and contains more mature themes and incidents. It's humorous, as well as being slightly dark, and a smidge perverted (but in a fun way). Unfortunately, the characters are, on a close inspection, as two-dimensional as ever. While Chi is undoubtably cute, that, along with her mysterious orgins, seem to be the only real aspects of her character. The rest of the cast is no different. While there are some emotional scenes, I find myself unable to relate to the characters at all.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT new series from Clamp! Review: This has to be the best new manga I've read in a very long time. The story holds you, the art is beautiful, and it's just a very very interesting read. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: Lovely!!! Review: This story stars out with Hideki Monosuwa, a ... 19 year old who is can't seem to make ends meet. He wishs he had a "Persocom", a computer that looks like a human, and are all the rage in his time. But he'd be dead before he could afford one. One day on his way home from work, he finds a female persocom in the trash. He takes her home, turns her on, only to find that all she says is Chi(She is named after her one word vocabulary) she has no OS, but still moves, and when friends try to plug there persocoms in, they fry. As it gouse on into other volumes, Chi begans to fall in love with Hideki, and Hideki begans to love Chi, but rufes to say so because he is so agenst people falling in love with machines. What sounds like an all ages thing is not, because of the adult humor and themes. Overall, it is a wonderful manga that I would recamend to more mature readers.
Rating: Summary: Excellent, but... Review: As a manga fan, I must admit that this work by Clamp is yet another masterpiece. The story is pretty engaging, and artwork is excellent. On the other hand, I don't mind its "mature" theme, but I can't help but wonder why Clamp decided to make a work based on one of a man's many possible fantasies: a beautiful woman (or, in this case, a computer) who becomes obsessed with her owner, who is not very popular with girls. So, in all, I'm impressed by the effort Clamp put forth to bring this work. But, as original as it is, I undoubtly think that it is also one of their most controversal work up to date.
Rating: Summary: chobits Review: this manga is hillarrious! But deffently go by the age guidlines some kids may find the adult hummor to be a bit to much. But all in all it's fun to read about someone who has the worst luck. Though sometimes confusing (Chi's books for example) Chobits is one of the best manga series i've read in a long time!
Rating: Summary: Chobits Rock! Review: This item was originally on my wishlist, but I couldn't wait. So when I had an extra $$$ in my pocket, I dove on the chance to have it! I am so glad I did! It's a fairly easy read and very humorous! It didn't take me long to read it, but the graphics and how innocently Chi wants to learn anything she can get her hands on is almost too much! Can you imagine? A healthy desire to learn, and a 19 year old's apartment. Whoa, can we say an innocently kinky combo!?
