Rating: Summary: A great read! Review: The Mammoth Hunters is a great read... I loved the problems that Ayla and Jondalar faced throughout the whole book. It was a stupid problem that could easily have been solved, but that would have made the book kinda dull. The only thing I can say bad about this saga is the overwhelming detail of every landscape, maybe some people enjoy that but i can't stand reading a page on the plantlife, i usually skipped through that because they didn't seem to relate to much to the story. Over all a good book, sometimes painful to read how poorly Jondalar reacts to the problem, but if you liked the series so far read this one too.
Rating: Summary: Enthralling saga of love and hardship in a primitive world Review: Mrs. Auel has done it again! This third book in the Earth's Children series opened my eyes to prejudices, especially those that have existed for millenia, as shown throughout this series. People fear and become prejudiced against that which they will not or cannot understand and accept. These individuals wrongly concentrate their energies on finding the differences between people. This is a waste of time and emotion. In order to live in harmony with others, people must instead concentrate on the similarities among themselves and others, then forget the differences and live in peace. I cannot wait to explore the adventures which the next book will hold!
Rating: Summary: Love lorn Review: This book is slow and very distracting.Ayla gets herself into too many weird, but wonderfull situations. She does with Ranec what we wish we could do with people that we see that are diffrent and wonder, what if.But it backfires on her because she does not understand the concept of being jealous. In the end it sorts it's self out but it made for a tedious read, very good but with patience, the next book make up for it.
Rating: Summary: Most fascinating Auel book besides the original Review: This book fascinates me. The intricacies of paleolithic life portayed in this story are fascinating. The wrenching love story kept my eyes glued on this book, and the beauty of language and imagery were wonderful. I love the entire Earth's Children series, but especially recommend this one. It is a fascinating telling of a timeless tale set in an entrancing setting.
Rating: Summary: Another excellent title in the Earth's Children series Review: This is a great, intense book. The problems between Ayla and Jondalar are very frustrating and painful to read because we all know how much they love each other deep down. This book has more elements of a soap opera drama than the others, but it is still highly enjoyable and full of rich detail. Sex occurs frequently in this book, but it is described in a beautiful fashion. I think our modern day men may have a thing or two to learn about our ancestors!
Rating: Summary: Easily the most boring entry in the series Review: While the other books involve some fascinating action, in this one Ayla and her improbably handsome, impossibly boring boyfriend Jondalar settle down with some nice Mamutoi and learn about peace, love, and acceptance. And sex. Most of the plot is Ayla Sleeps with Hunky Blond Guy, Ayla Sleeps with Hunky Black Guy, Ayla Rescues Yet Another Animal, Ayla Teaches People To Be Tolerant of Differences. Yuck. At least the anthropological detail is interesting. Now I'll know how to skin a mammoth, next time I get lost in the prehistoric wilderness. I did enjoy it, but not that much.
Rating: Summary: Prehistory as Studio 54 Review: This is a silly book. Nothing like a series to expose the banality of the writer's soul, I guess. But it is fun to see Paleolithic society portrayed as an evening at Studio 54. Both social systems are defunct. Coincidence? I think not. Ayla will no doubt invent the wheel in the next book. I'm sorry she ever started. Someone invented written language and Auel is threatening to finish the series. Oh, I hope not.
Rating: Summary: Great read, but a little slow Review: I though this book was great. It explored history and had deep symbolc meaning. Some passages were a little slow and the sex scenes were a bit unessessary, but the rest of the book was interesting, as all of Auel's books have been.
Rating: Summary: it is an imagitive and has a lot of historical facts Review: I've read all the Earth's Childrens books and I think they are fatastic. I have read a lot of books, and the The Clan of the Cave Bear and Valley of the Horses are two of my favorites. I loved how Ayla is the herion and how she work to get where she ended up being.
