Summary: Abridgement ruins novel
Review: While the book is fantastic, this abridged version is missing to many vital details to follow. The listenter cannot even follow the storyline, much less grasp the richness of the world Jordan builds. A 30 hour story is smashed into a 3 hour reading, and it just doesn't work. I highly reccomend the Wheel Of Time series, but not the abridged audio-tapes. I would strongly reccomend either reading the book, or finding an unabridged version of the audio book.

Summary: My Humble Opinion on a Great Book
Review: I like the long, detailed storyline. I like feeling like I'm in the story. The characters even remind me of people I know. Jordan is not Tolkien, but Tolkien is not Jordan. Each can have pros or cons depending on you ask. I like them both. Draw whatever similarities and state whatever opinions you like, I think that anyone who reads fantasy should give this book a chance.

Summary: An excellent start to an excellent series
Review: The Eye of the world is one of the greatest fantasy novels since Tolkien wrote "The Lord of The Rings" all those years ago. It follows the story of young villagers forced to leave their peaceful village under terrifying circumstances. They embark on a journey of discovery and wind up at The Eye of The World, an unexplainable device which holds some astonishing secrets. The quality of Jordan's writing is simply superb. His descriptions are incredible, his creations are believable and his characters are lovable. From the Prologue (my favorite piece of writing in the series) until the final page, The Eye of the World had me under its spell. Magnificent.

Summary: Fantasy novel of epic proportions
Review: There are some books that you cannot remember the plot of after you put it down. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM. This starts the series of books that describes another world fun of magic and warriors. It is like Tolkien's world, but this is a bit better. These are real people with real problems. There forms a bond between the reader and the characters. In a way, I know these characters better than some people in real like, because I know the way they think and act. The reader gets all the emotions of the stars. Like most good fantasy books, it starts small and isolated, the main characters somewhat nobodys, but as the book/books progress, they become more and more powerful, influencial and important. These main characters are going to save the world.... hopefully.

Summary: It is the absolute best book I have ever read!!
Review: This is a book to be kept as a classic. I enjoyed it and couldn't put it down. I did not read it because of what I had heard, but because I needed something longer and deeper to read.I was very pleasantly surprised upon reading his books that They were exactly what I was looking for. I got excited when they said it was better than Tolkein, I don't like him much, detail is good, but he puts too much detail. Robert Jordan is the Best Author I have encountered books from, and Eye of the world is his best ever.

Summary: A slow start to a great story.
Review: Don't get me wrong by the opening comment; this is an exellent book. The detail of Jordan's World is breath-taking; from the landscapes painted upon the canvas of the mind, to the grating nuances of personalities. Before one judges this book harshly, I would reccommend at least getting through the next two books. This will enable you to get a fair grasp of the complexity of characters, not quite evidenced in the first novel. After reading it for the third time, I find that there are some subtle hints that reach as far back as the 6th and 7th books. My only complaint is how different the first book is with the rest of the series - a novel definitely smacking of Tolkien. Over all, I give it 4 stars, but the rest of the series 5 stars. You must start reading the series.

Summary: The Eye of the World is very well written.
Review: I am totally captivated by Robert Jordan's, The Eye of the World. He has created a world that is so rich in detail and characters that you can identify with that it is impossible to resist. I always look forward to picking up this wonderful book, it helps me to escape from my stressful and hectic life by entering Jordan's fantastic world of suspense. Thank you, Robert Jordan, for restoring my faith in the modern American novel.

Summary: Get ready for a ride!
Review: This book is the begining of a great story. Some people have disliked it because it is slow. I will say that The Eye of The World is the slowest read of the series so far, but this is a good thing. Most books give a few hundered words of description to a character and then follow this description throughout the book. Jordan's characters LIVE! You actually get to know them through their actions and thoughts. These characters change. They act in contradictory or unusual ways. They complain. They get bored. They love. They learn . They feel and interact as 3-dimensional characters.

Robert Jordan describes a world similar, yet completely alien to our own. This world is as complex as its characters and very large. Reading the first chapter, The Eye of The World, is a primer, a starting point. By the time you finish the second book you will see actual change in Jordan's characters as they evolve and grow. I will admit that the first book is even better the second time you read it. After reading the series so far I marvel at Jordan's ability to pace his story. The books are long for a reason. You are being drawn into a Jordan's world. Terry Goodkind is another great fantasy author, but his books feel rushed when compared to Jordan's. JRR Tolkein had a great story, but would't you have loved to know what made the characters act as they did? Who didn't want to spend more time with Gandalf? Jordan lets you spend time with characters that become great. These character are not forced on you.

If you want quick action that you do not have to think about, read Goodkind's The Sword of Truth, its good.

If you are looking for a great read that keeps you up until 4 a.m., buy book 1 and 2 of The Wheel of Time series. (I have had friends who did not like book 1 for many of the reasons already stated in previous reviews. After reading book two they fell in love as I did. If you start with book 2 you will have missed the whole point of Jordan's work.) Let Jordan take you on his incredible adventure. You will find yourself returning to his masterpiece often in your lifetime and obtaining a true standard to compare other books to. If you love to read and be absorbed in a story, there is none better than Jordan.

Summary: not as good as expected
Review: all I have to say is that people have to stop saying that it has the same components as tolkien, there is no way around that he started fantasy. Everything is based on his books, so stop saying its alot like Tolkien. I personally didnt see why it was so hyped to be the best sence Tolkien, It wasnt that great.
