Summary: An original, fantasy epic
Review: This book was recommended to me by the manager of a brick and mortar store nearby. I have read a great deal of science fiction/fantasy, and after a while, it all starts to feel the same. You know what I mean: how many times can we revisit Tolkein-esque charcaters like elves, dwarves, and orcs? I was very pleased to discover an entirely new world.Robert Jordan has created a landscape of magnificent proportions. Accents, legends, superstitions, politics...His amazing attention to detail allowed me to become fully immersed in the story. Even more surprising is that the quality of his writing is maintained throughout the book's length of 782 pages. I couldn't put this novel down, with the result that I finished it well inside of a week. This is the first book of a series, and the reviews for some of the later books aren't as glowing. However, I feel that this book is a great read, and can stand on its own. It is not uncommon for series to degrade over time -- take a look at "Wishsong of Shannara"by Terry Brooks, "The One Tree" by Stephen R. Donaldson, or "The Sorceress of Darshiva" by David Eddings. All three of these books fail to live up to the quality of others in their respective series, but that doesn't mean you should avoid the series altogether. "Eye of the World" provides us with an epic that is also refreshingly new. Robert Jordan presents us with a world that is the most richly colorful since Tolkein. If you're a fan of fantasy, then don't miss reading this book.

Summary: Great First in a Series but Commitment is Required
Review: I picked up Eye of the World without realizing it was the first of a very long and yet to be completed series. I don't regret it as the first novel is one of the best fantasies I have ever read. Some of the later novels are a bit slow going and there are so many characters and story lines that it is easy for someone with poor short term memory to lose track. After reading close to 9000 pages I feel committed to finishing the series, if Robert Jordan ever does. It would be nice if he wrote a little faster. The novels seem to be published well over a year apart, which doesn't help the memory problem.

Review: Oh my gosh this is like the best series I have ever read I have read every Book in this series up to date and can not wait any longer for number 9 . Be Warned when you buy this book, the first in the sereies, you will not be able to stop there. Robert Jordan spins A tale so well you actually start to see the world as its discribed almost as if you become a part of the story itself

Summary: This Was Great
Review: I love this series, it keeps me sucked in for long hours going through the different political plots of this world. The Characters are sometimes painfully described, it is worth it for the amount of depth that you get clued into. Thanks Robert for the enjoyable series.

Summary: Thoroughly Entertaining
Review: I am loving this series! It lacks the majestic tone of Tolkien, however, Jordan makes up for it by creating a fantasy world with all the depth necessary to build an epic tale. I am easily discouraged my some fantasy books because they often rip of Tolkien's ideas. Parallels to Tolkiens work appear more to honour Tolkien in their similarities, and Jordan's characters stand all on there own. The Eye of the World provides an edge-of-your seat introduction to the series, I am into book 3 and its grip has not been released. Thanks to Mr. Jordan for his hard work.

Summary: I almost hate to give this book 5 stars...
Review: I almost hate to give this book 5 stars, but it deserves it. This is an excellent book - the first book of one of the best fantasy series written to date - but before you buy it, you should think twice. This series is long. Really long. And it gets bad after a few books. Really bad. So bad that you'll wish you hadn't bothered starting the series. That bad. So go ahead and buy it - I know you're going to no matter what I say - but don't come crying to me when you've just finished the ninth book in the series, and it was so bad that you feel sick to your stomach about what a farse this series has become.

Summary: A very good introduction to an epic series.
Review: The eye of the world is, in my opinion one of the best volumes in Jordan's epic series. The opening chapters grip the reader immediately with mysterious occurances and for fans of Tolkien, I have come across no village in modern fantasy books more like the shire than this one. Read and enjoy it although I would hasten to warn that the series does not maintain such quality throughout its volumes, often becoming very slow.

Summary: Robert Jordan is a terrific author!
Review: Hi, Robert Jordan, is great! He knows, how to write a story, though, the story, does seem to trail once in a while. I have finished this book, and loved it! First I thought it would be a dragging tale. Well,The characters, Are now friends! I can't wait till I'm finished the Great HUNT! And robert Jordan needs to know about his women. They aren't very popular people, as I have seen. When the story, moves on. They always, seem to make the boys, squirm in their boots. I could see that from Nynaeve,her being the wisdom and all. In other reviews, people say the women are annoying, boring. Well we need them. But Jordan could give them better attitudes. They all seem to act the same. And Rand the big baby! Iam glad he gets better! And Loial, he may not seem, like he needs to be in the WoT, or The great hunt, but he does, he is like their, information,, board! ALright, All I have to say is this book, is a must read, dispite, the long series. But people, must read the rest once they have read this one, LIFE goes on! So i recomend this book to any fantasy fan, or science fiction, fan. It is just Great!

Summary: Finally, another series I can read!
Review: Personally, I think this is one of the best series to hit the bookstands since the beginning of the Xanth trilogies. Even though the books are on the slow side, I am still able to be transported to that world. I love being able to read a story that can make you feel like you are in that world and not just reading a story about it. I am just now starting book seven and can hardly wait to get to book eight.

Summary: Better than I expected
Review: I found this a great story. It wasn't the ultimate read, as it seemed to be from all the hype and religion surrounding the series, but I have to say I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Why I bought it in the first place then? Why, to see what all the hype and religion was about ofcourse :-) Still, Tolkien is better IMO, he *made* a whole new world - LOTR is simply unbeatable - whereas RJ steals a helluvalot from other stories, classics, mythology etc etc :-) Ok, Tolkien used a lot of folklore as well, but he didn't borrow from other writers. It was funny trying to figure out where all the deja vu's came from (King Arthur - lots, Tolkien - quite some, Chronicles Of Thomas Covenant - a little, little bit of Dune mixed in, and then some). I would have liked to give it 4'n'ahalf stars but well.. But I will buy the next one, and probably the one after that and so forth.. I hope I can catch up! :-)
