Summary: Great book, great series!
Review: I found the Eye of the World to be one of the best Fantasy books yet! Maybe I was just stunned from my migration from the laid back comedy of Piers Anthony or enthralled by the level of detail and challenge of the Dune series. But of all the Fantasy books I have read, this is the first in a series that I have waited patiently for each and every book after to come out! If you haven't read any Robert Jordan books and are looking for a serious read, definitely forget that he wrote the Conan series and pick up Eye of the World. If you can finish it and enjoy it, you are only going to get even more caught in his well crafted web of magic, subplots and slow character development that will keep you reading for weeks and slavering for the next book in the series!

Summary: A weak plot and average writing does not a book make
Review: If you like a book with a mix of stolen plots (mostly Tolkien) written in such a way as to allow for as many $sequals$ as possible this is for you. Here and there his writing is okay, but mostly it is bland. This reminds me of a soap opera. Lots of people like it, but I can't seem to stand it. I read it only because a friend from my army days loved it. Even my flat mate who loves trash fiction gave up. Read some Terry Pratchett instead and spare yourself.

Summary: This book is plainly and simply UNBELIEVABLE!
Review: This book is everything ever wanted in a book. You won't believe how much time you'll be willing to devote your time to this excellent story. I never was much of a reader, stories always bored me by probably halfway through them. This story is the exact opposite, by the time I started the story, to the time I finish it, I enjoyed it more and more and paid more attention thinking about it than my own life. It's hard to explain, but believe me, if you love fantasies this has to be the bible of those.

Summary: Average Novel, Good Start to the Series
Review: Having just started reading the series, I found this book to be average in the genre. Good vs evil, most issues black and white. . . . etc. I enjoyed reading it but wouldn't have put it on the must read again short list. It is well written, (the length doesn't bother me.) However as I am now in the third book of the series I must confess I am starting to get hooked.

I think this series will be a very good summer vacation/lie on the boat/soak up some sun/read a few chapters kind of book. Series will probably get 4 stars from me when all is said and done.

Summary: A good beginning
Review: I'd more likely give this book 3 1/2 stars. It's a good start to what is obviously a HUGE series. Those of you intimidated by the size of a book should probably find somthing else a little easier to read instead. Good beginning character and plot developement. Plenty of things happening without too much time in between (more often than not). This book sets a solid foundation for what has the potential to be a wonderful series.

Summary: !
Review: Absolutely blows away everything in the genre. Nothing recent even comes close. If you grew up with Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, and Lloyd Alexander, this is your book.

Summary: all this praise is overblown
Review: I am a great fan of fantasy and sci-fi, but this is one of the few books I couldn't bring myself to finish. I believe I would have enjoyed it had I read it at the age of fifteen or less. However at the age of twenty all I can say is: boring. Characters lack development, names of beings are just puns of other more known names (The main bad guy is Shai'tan - Satan). There must be at least a dozen authors who can and has developed the "innocent youngsters chased by bad guys" plot better. It is basically this: be chased, fight Trollocks (Orcs), encounter new characters (and then forget them), be chased some more. I am honestly puzzled at the five stars-reviews. Especially if you are a Tolkien fan: keep away from this book. I would swap the entire series for one Terry Goodkind book.

Summary: The Eye of the World (Wheel of Time, Book 1)
Review: This is a great book by a great author, if you have ever read Magician by Rammond E Fiest then you know what to expect. The action and rich detail that go into the story line, make for a great read. In addition to this the steady and often interesting development of the story keeps you wanting to read more and more. If you have heard any bad reviews about this book its most likely from people who cant sit down and read a decent lenght book, or who are looking for a quick fix with a 100 page book. Soo dont let anyone put you off reading this book. From NCEF5@Yahoo.com

Summary: A Good Find
Review: Well, I got this book like many others, in Christmas. I didn't get around to reading it until February though because I was busy reading a VERY good series by R.A. Salvatore the Dark Elf Trilogy and Icewind Dale Trilogy not to mention many others... Once I finished, I gave this a shot and boy was it sooooo s-l-o-w! More than 80 precent of this book is getting from Edmond's Field to Tar Valon (well actually to the Blight). Still, R. Jordon did a great job and I must admit the pages flew by in less then half a week. It is very addictive and hooks you into the characters. The ending pages were well written and makes you HAVE to read the next book/s *I have not, yet* and I am eager to see what Rand will go through in some other books, if there IS Rand al'Thor in them. Overall the slowness in the beginning tends to get better and better.

Summary: Best First Book in the Series Ever, Bar None!
Review: There's nothing the like revisiting an old friend. I read this for the first time years ago, and only picked it up again while waiting to get to the library. Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series is one of those weird alternate-universe-fantasy books that have complete little worlds made up just for them. Think of a cross between The Hobbit and Star Wars. If you liked either, you'll probably want to give these extremely long never-ending series a shot. The main story line is that the world will be destroyed unless a certain young man with Force-like powers learns to channel his abilities to save the world. There are evil powers, strange beasts (both good and bad), funny clothes, odd cultures, an ancient language and an even more ancient secret society, romance, humor, etc. The characters are actually human (at least, they're not contrived) and their motives are honest. You end up loving all of them, from sweet and earnest Min to disreputable Mat. I really recommend reading the whole series, and then coming back to this one -- the characters are continually developing through all eight books and the book create so many plot twists you'll never tire of re-reading and re-discovering them.
